First impression (yes I'm in it when I should be working, couldn't keep away)

The modulations possible, and the workflow, is vastly improved over the first one...nice tool tip screen up at the top, deep contextual help function also.

    Basically you're not blown away

Actually I'm getting there. All the applications' amazing ideas (that I'd already gotten used to, after surmounting a significant learning curve) are right up front, better organized, supported with more than one type of help, easy to use even without adding the rotor hardware..and I just put together something I really like, a glitched up, LFO'ed drum and bass beat (that I seriously couldn't have done in any other app...(except maybe SunVox, but not as easily or quickly)

Do you know how do you get your own samples into the wave player ?

    Magic! ;)

Reactable was one of the first music apps I bought, never got on with it unfortunately.

Same. I was so excited when it came out. Reactable for 1/5000 of the actual price? Yes please! In reality... it was very very meh.

  • Well I gave it a go, got something going, but not much, am giving up already, far less important but far more enjoyable things to do.

Ooh, the death knell of faint praise.

Yeah - I was very excited by it when it came out, and I'd seen the real thing in a Bjork vid, but the app version never clicked. I remember a period of extreme buginess and crashability as well though, and waiting years for a fix. That didn't improve my love for it.

Could be a lovely thing though, so maybe the new version's added something extra. I guess the old version will be put out to pasture now.

Wow think I will hold off then

  • did marcos alonso have anything to do with this one?

  • and.... does reactable have this feature?

" ROTOR comes with automatic real-time key detection and time stretching algorithms that allow for samples, loops and sequences to stay not only in sync but also in harmony with each other. All wavefiles can be configured either as masters, thus determining at any instant the tonality of the whole session, or as slaves, thus adapting automatically to this computed tonality."

No. This is one of the reasons I'm considering making the plunge on this one. Also claims to have a beat slicer (which the old one didn't).

  • This was the shortest life cycle of an app I have ever seen!

    LOL

I am buckled over laughing because when I left the house this morning people enthusiastically embarked on a mysterious adventure to find out it was more like camping in their back yard so they came inside to watch TV.

No one ever really loved Reactable so why would we pay for for Reactable 2.0?

Because we are stupid and impulsive that is why!

I am literally crying and struggling to type I got a case of the belly laughs................ oh shit

    slicer too?... definitely intrigued

I'm still intrigued about this one too. Just watched this demo of the beta. It's in Spanish and mostly out of focus, but there's enough there that's keeping me interested.

  • thanks for the vid, if this thing does tuplets it looks like it could be a keeper

A different language and out of focus, that's all.

Well, at least it isn't in brale.

  • so is this actually reactable 2 or have they said anything about updating reactable with some of these features?

  • Two issues: unlike the first, there is no ACP...
And there's a limitation on the number of objects, in the first, 4 sequencers were available (after purchasing additional objects) here only two, maybe they have IAP in mind again.

@RustiK yes the rollercoaster is pretty funny.

  • Right. I'm interested in knowing if there are IAPs in Rotor like there are in Reactable (sequencer, loop, osc, sampler, delay, etc.).

Indeed. Out of focus Braille is useless Braille.

Yeah, but at least you get a better idea about what the app does vs their vague promo video. ;)

How many here who've bought the app... think it's a keeper? Or, are you hovering on the refund button?

I'm more interested in the "experimental soundscapey" stuff they claim in the hyperbole. Is this doing anything significantly different from other apps on that front?

And, is it easy to import in your own sound samples for use in those modules?

  • In this instance, it pays to be technologically insecure. The interface on this thing is SO cool, if a little high-maintenance. For those who aren't intimidated by it, they get all excited by the interface and I think they tend to overlook the main point, which is in the very few videos available, THE MUSIC IS TERRIBLE. I mean, I know that music is subjective. But the videos for Model 15 or Audulus are at once technically mesmerizing and GREAT TO LISTEN TO.

no ACP... really?.... just read the App Store descript, it says bring in your own loops so how do you do that?

Well, not ALL of us are making "music", dropping fat funky dope phat sick beats, crafting catchy pop tunes, or rockin' like a hurricane. Some of us are mostly interested in tools to fool around with sound and make compositions for mood/soundscape/soundtrack.

For later type, is this a unique and valuable tool? Or, is this just another bleep-bloop toy with hopes of selling IAP samples to play with?

ps. nothing wrong with the former, but I'd rather just buy music from artists who have talent in that area instead. :)

According to the manual, it's iTunes sharing only.

Wait. You're NOT rocking like a hurricane, you're saying.

  • I would be very surprised if no ACP. Reactable mobile has AudioPaste as the only way to get a file in... It's convoluted--you have to go to the settings to "manage sounds". AudioPaste is in the lower left corner. I haven't taken the plunge on ROTOR so I don't know how it works in the new app.

    Uh-Oh. Dealbreaker. :(

I remember in one Reactable update they added a pop-up while you were playing, asking you to rate the app. When you clicked it, it crashed. Hopefully they haven't included that feature in the new version....
