Found a great app/controller combo, Mersenne and the Korg PadKontrol, an mpc type drum pad controller. Getting a tuned percussion sound on Mersenne, and the 16 drum pads set to a scale, makes a great, pseudo mallet instrument experience. The PadKontrol has a "flam" function, that doubles each note, a great way to sound like you are playing more than you are.
