Cool. Do you have Odyssei? And are you planning on getting iWavestation? If so, would like to know what you think between the two with regard to experimental stuff. thx!
Guess it depends on what you see as experimental. The wavestation was a godsend for the industrial/experimental scene of the early 90s. Yes, it will do the glassy pad movie intro sounds but with wave sequencing and deep modulation possibilities, you can definitely get your freak on with the wavestation.
Right now I'm getting my money back (and more) by pressing the random button and discovering strange sequences that are great starting points for my gadget jam sessions !
I've got both and it's difficult to say imo. The arpeggiator in Odd is powerful and there're three parameters to modulate there in madness fashion. I've been using iWavestation for a while but I see eight slots with scale/key. Any slot can be a single sound or a sequence with differents sound sources and there're many, many of them and the joystick to change parameters or morph. Finally there're a lot of FX, a lot. My vote goes to iWavestation.
@syrupcore & @Ivan_Dj Those descriptions push a lot of my buttons. It's on sale until Jan. 5th and I've got so many newly purchased apps to tide me over for a little while. Very intrigued though. Thanks!
I need to hear what the iWavestation can do - it's not an instabuy for me.
I personally find analogue-type synth sounds more flexible, and ripe for manipulation than FM/wave/sampled stuff, so the Odyssei is more my cup of (potential) strangeness. I could be completely wrong about the iWavestation though, need to hear more.
What do you mean by experimental? Glenn Branca? Aphex Twin? Diamanda Galas? Or do you mean 'encourages (and rewards) experimentation'?
Experimental for me means Stephen Stapleton screaming into a tea strainer for four hours. You won't find that setting on your iWavestation.
@Ivan_Dj how do you activate additional slots? (The 8 parts)
In the mixer page there're on/off buttoms for the slots and there're you can select the sounds
@Ivan_Dj thank you!
The manual is live

Got my money's worth with the random button. Would be great if one could limit the random to specific entries.
But it sure is fun as it is. They should rename that button to @MonzoPro as it's pretty close to dumping the wavestations guts through a tea strainer. Right up your alley Monzo based on the stuff you have shared on this forum over the years.
VS
(not for voting just for 'retro' comparison)
Would love to hear some!
Yes. This.
I did this as a quick sample performance.
This is one (!!!!) instance of Milpatas inside Gadget (plus one instance of Toyko that comes in at 52secs, then drops back out). I'm just playing with the volume parameters and filter inside Milpatas.
Please do not just go by the cheesy synth playing demos.
I'd say this thing is a modern sounding audio mangling playground that you can use more like a weird drum machine than a synth if you use the wave sequences.
Don't know Glenn Branca. Big Aphex Twin, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Tim Hecker fan. Not so much Diamanda Galas, but respect and own her work.
You know you're gonna buy this. Just get it over with and let me know what you think.
Ooh, I do love a random button...
From the recent comments it sounds like this could be my thing after all.....it'll have to go on my xmas list though as I'm brassic after the sales
Product info now on the Korg site: http://www.korg.com/us/products/software/korg_iwavestation/
Same here. Will hold off until the new app hysteria calms a bit. Meanwhile, back to trying how to figure out Audulus 3 to kill time.
Me too. I've advanced from twiddling knobs in demos projects, to adding a few bits of my own, but it's a steep climb...
Yah I need to hear way more examples of the cool glitchy side people are talking about before I budge.
A real shame it doesn't sound like it has sample import. Seems like it would be the perfect candidate. What a missed opportunity. The last thing I want is to be working on a track, scrolling through stock waveforms and hearing 80s oohs and ahh vox sounds and corny bells, messing with my mojo.
Some more random sounds

Hoping v1.1 has a search for performances, patches, waves and wave sequences.
Here are a few loops I made as examples. It's just one held note with different randomly created patches. The last loop is a factory patch but with modified effects.
Does not sound 80's to me ;-)
Sounds like cEvin Key's stuff in the 80's... in other words... I'm SOLD!
I'm not "sold" yet, but user's sound clips are pushing much closer to it than the official demos.
Someone mentioned comparing this to PPG's Wave app... that it was preferable over iWavestation because it's AU. It's the same price... but, it seems like many/most seem to fine the PPG apps much more difficult to program?
If you're not a Gadget user, is there a clear preference between the PPG Wave app and iWavestation?
