Here are a few loops I made as examples. It's just one held note with different randomly created patches. The last loop is a factory patch but with modified effects.

Does not sound 80's to me ;-)

Sounds like cEvin Key's stuff in the 80's... in other words... I'm SOLD! :)

I'm not "sold" yet, but user's sound clips are pushing much closer to it than the official demos.

Someone mentioned comparing this to PPG's Wave app... that it was preferable over iWavestation because it's AU. It's the same price... but, it seems like many/most seem to fine the PPG apps much more difficult to program?

If you're not a Gadget user, is there a clear preference between the PPG Wave app and iWavestation?

hehe, by that I meant it still sounds 80s... I probably still won't get it.

I'm still not sold either. I like the sequenced stuff, but it becomes cliched very quickly. If I didn't have the iM1 and iProphet I might be tempted. Still could make the xmas list with a good video demo though.

I don't know the Wavestation well enough to comment. I can however say that the PPG apps while having their own quirks, are not difficult to program.

nope. Another sort of slave-to-the-original version feature that feels silly.

Has anyone found a master volume control on this anywhere?.

Have been testing a midi controller on this via AUM and it knocked the sound completely out of the iwavestation. On both my ipads. I reinstalled the app on my mini to get the sound back. I want to keep some patches I've made on my Air2 but can't figure out what's happened. all the wav animations are going but no sound....weird. wondered whether i'd accidentally flipped a midi volume control somewhere. Now no patches make any sound.

edit: found it :) Yes midi cc 07 is master volume but there's no master volume on the gui anywhere I can find so if you accidentally drop this it seems like the app has lost sound, it also saves and exports volume state this with the iwavestation file. Useful to know if anyone else stumbles into this scenario.

  • Sounds really cool. Are the sequences limited to straight 16th notes, or can you tie or mute notes in the sequence?

Yes MIDI cc7 it's always master volume. When in doubt. Sometimes also cc11 it's used as volume control although cc7 it's the only command specific to volume.

IM1 has no master volume anywhere in the UI as well. I don't really care about it but there was a request on the korg support forum to add it. maybe one can be make for iwavestation as well. Korg does listen to minor requests. this one might get implemented as well.

You can change the duration of each individual wave in the sequence and set the crossfade amount. Can't mute them though you can set their volume level.

Could not yet figure out how to play multiple notes of a monophonic sound like in the ski jam preset at the same time?

I remembered in the end :). I think it would help to have it on the gui because at first I thought it was an audio glitch and didn't even realise that cc value had been sent. What with Korgs midi implementation being a bit frustrating as usual. It listens to everything. There is a cc filter in the settings. I guess that is quite useful.

Go to: Mixer > Midi - on the right side you see 'Voice Mode'. Select polyphonic for the parts you want (page 24 of the manual).

  • @R_2 that's it, thanks!
