@supadom An embittered heart from previous updates leaves me waiting for at least the Spring , if not the threat of September's new onslaught .
I'm also in betatesting mode , & my 9.3.5 has been useful .
10.2 All ok for you then I guess ?

I was only asking because I've held back until last week. I could do it because I have two air 2s one of which I kept on 8.4 while the other one on latest being my test machine. I've been using them in parallel using the same apps and could not see the difference anymore. With the fact that some of the new exciting apps don't run on 8 anymore I've decided it is time. It made sense to hold back for a while but then it just got silly. I do understand the pressure not to plunge though, even if only psychological.
Good luck either way you go.

  • for transparency/alpha channel work, I can recommend the app "Bricolage". It's not a video editor, rather a compositing app.

Thanks for the tip Mister Phil. May take a flyer on that one....

Interesting. Shake-style node-based on the iPad. Might have to check out this one myself. thx!

I spotted a transparency slider on the clip editor in the overview vid - this should allow layers to be transparent?

You can control the transparency of layers in LumaFusion too. Just not layer blend effects yet. I wonder if Bricolage does?

I'm intrigued this is node-based. I've used node-based with Shake a long time ago. Apple bought them out and exported much of the code to Motion and FCPX. I never really took to node-based compositing, but that was a long time ago. Might be cool to give it another shot. One of the very few reviews is negative on this one. Having mostly to do with the output quality. Interested to see if others here who've used this one, can attest to the quality level in HD, and whether it supports 4K footage too.

Looks good that one too. I'm about to take the Lumafusion plunge, looks like it does a lot for the money.

  • How do you get audio into this - are there other options apart from the dreaded iTunes?

If you're talking about LumaFusion... you can send to it from AudioShare. Shows up in the "Imported" folder in LumaFusion. No need for iTunes for anything.

Brilliant, thanks for the confirmation. Will be picking this up after I've watched the xmas Dr Who episode

  • Has anyone purchased this Lumafusion yet?

It seems to be a pretty complete app.

Are the effects 'real time' or do they need to be rendered?
Does the app allow recording of video from both front and back camera at the same time?
(It seems to have some pip-options).

I'm thinking HaQ will be all over this app soon :)

I'm buying it shortly - the fx are real time from what I can see

That's what I could read too, imagine having a 'video over' in addition to 'voice over' recording the front camera.
This would add a whole new dimension for 'TV-Reporter Style' videos.

I'm pretty thin on the 'video app' department and the only dedicated video-camera app I have is FilmicPro.

Indeed, am wondering what The Haq will make of it.

In my own amateur fashion I'm liking it plenty. Fun and easy and that's what I want/need from an iPad video thingie at this point (which doesn't mean to say I won't love the Premiere file transfer etc when it arrives...:))...

  • What's funny is that this Lumafusion seems to be more fully featured that iMovie on macOS and leaves the iOS iMovie in the dust.

When I do record video i use the FilmicPro app as it gives better control over exposure, white-balance and focus and also allows me to record in multiple resolutions and bitrates if needed.

My old iPhone 5's battery is starting to get swollen again and is no longer covered by extended warranty so time will tell if or when I get a new iPhone...

  • how long will it be at this price?

Sold. After all the other "fancy videography" details, these were the words that have pushed me over to that "buy" button.

  • One more question.

Does it work with 'referenced' movies? I mean if i have a 'big' video-file in the camera-roll does it have to be 'copied' to the project or can it be used 'as is' from the camera-roll?

I mean sometimes video-files can get pretty big and making duplicate copies is a big no-no...

Would need confirmation from a more expert source, but I just opened a video resident in my picture library and it did not 'import' it, just opened....and thus I would presume etc etc.

  • Damn, why did nobody tell me about this when i was asking about video iOS video apps? I love Takete but would have waited had i know about Luma but as it is i've spent most of my itunes store credits. :(

I was looking for a better alternative to iMovie as well but if i can edit the AV i create in Takete could well be worth getting while it's on sale. What date exactly will it go back up?

It wasn't released till 22nd December, and you were asking before then......

  • Great app, after a bit of clicking around was able to make a silly layered clip with an audio track. I usually use Sony Vegas on the PC - this has nearly all the same features, but really nice editing video on a touch screen as opposed to using a mouse. Apart from iMovie this is the only video app I have, and this looks like it ticks all the boxes for me.

Yeah but the other Luma apps were available... I was getting at a hint of something coming and there was even a 90 day countdown posted in November. Don't get me wrong love Takete but would have been good to know.

Looks like a serious app anyway, could be good for post processing, preparing stuff for uploading to YT etc.

Is the subscription model some sort of IAP?

  • @Samu @JohnnyGoodyear
ok I did a quick check, there was a problem with resources in earlier betas, so we were advised to delete and reinstall to clear out the earlier projects... in the official release version i just exported a 4 k render of a 2 minute movie to camera roll (app estimated the clip at aprox 1.85gb but Docs says it is actually 635mb )
i started a new project in lumafusion and opened that clip in the project..
settings lumafusion app data before i did it, 15.6mb
settings lumafusion data after opening the clip in the app and saving the project:
    16.6mb !!
so it seems camera roll resources are now used super efficiently in the app PLUS when you look through your camera roll resources in the app album preview window it shows a 'tick' mark next to any pic or film you have used in a project to make sure you don't delete it.
of course 'open in' imports from other apps like audioshare wavs will bump the app storage up by the requisite Megabytes..

  • Got it.

I must say that I really like this app. Super intuitive and fairly easy to figure out, at least with the basics as importing audio/video, dropping tracks on the timeline, adding effects, slowing down etc. I don't see the audioshare import that has been mentioned upthread so I imported from Dropbox albeit it wasn't via the usual 'allow access' pop up but seemed like I was giving permission to a third party entity which I'm not entirely happy about (I then got an email saying 'you logged into Dropbox from an unknown browser').

I has also crashed on me twice when I simply tapped on a non descript grey area. I rebooted after the first crash and it crashed again right away. I hope there is a easy way to retrive project after a crash without too much loss.

I have another app called VideoFX live which seems like a great capture companion to this one. It has some wicked effects albeit it adds them destructively.

Wondering what little beauties @JohnnyGoodyear will produce using this app.

You should have an 'open in' option in Audioshare

  • @musikmachine
i think the half price sale is only for 7 days so maybe just until 29th ?
we (betas etc) managed to persuade them subscription model wasn't the way to go and to offer the bigger new features/fx and maybe presets as IAP in the future to keep the development going.. hopefully it will be the Gadget of the ios editing world.. good enough that no one minds a 3 or 6 monthly purchase for something shiny and new..

  • It seems about the right price to me - £30 compared to £30 - £50 for desktop Sony Vegas Studio which has more features (I got it for £30) and comes with extras such as a full version of Soundforge.

Cheers. Not a lot of time to decide! Clearly a different app to Takete and closer to IMovie it seems anyway, i thought you could manipulate visuals in a similar way?
