Back to Kirnu Cream ...
I'm on this like a paper wasp. Feel like I'm understanding more than not. However, I am no closer to 'getting' the chord memory section. I spent last night with it ... set up a chord, play through all presets on the bottom right. Put down one note on keyboard, two notes, three notes, several notes ... can't find a rhyme or reason to how this is affecting the arpeggiated chords. I must be dense?
I found that one of Kirnu’s official videos described that part quite well.
Oh, ok, I'll look for that. Thanks Oscar.
Let us know if you find it!!
This is the one:
Grazie @OscarSouth. Better than working.....
Appreciate that Oscar! Huge help - mysteries are being unlocked!
Anyone still using this one?
Ah, Cream. For those who’ve been around for a while, would you agree that this is the biggest flop in iOS annals for such a hugely anticipated and ambitious app? It’s Hall of Fame (Shame) worthy for its notorious place in niche music-making history. I can still hear the collective wtf.
I think it says more about the short attention span of iOS users than about the quality of the product tbh, there’s always a new shiny just round the corner
Disagreed. This one was a universal wtf and I cannot remember if there was a manual, but if there was, it was totally unhelpful due to language barrier or something. I love a good manual and am always willing to learn something. This was different.
It was roughly about the time of Modstep, also initially incomprehensible and contrary in usability
Ahh....Modstep...how I loved you and miss you...such a great app that changed the game for me...
I remember Cream Mobile being a rather ambitious port from the desktop...but it was a strange bird there too.

Fuck I wish modstep didn’t die
It’s all good. We have Drambo now.
I do remember the big letdown when it first came out. Curious how it is now after some updates. Definitely don’t NEED this one though. I’ve just heard some decent things about the desktop version.
I found the GUI small to work with - short of that, one of the most crash-free apps. The synth is a gem. The desktop version could be good for jumping in since it's easier to see. I think someone mentioned back then on this forum that the App didn't really need any updates, sort of a completed app - ButterSynth is in active development too, I think signup is on the Kirnu website forum. @BiancaNeve good point, seems the case here from what I remember.
I don’t have a desktop at the moment but I may give it a shot. Especially since I have an Apple Pencil. It looks super interesting.
I’m on the beta for butter synth and I love it. It’s gonna be a killer for sure.
There was someone a good while back (I think he owned a noodle shop) who was very clever and helped us with Cream, but then I think they got a little impatient with us and left town.
I don't want to disparage this ambitious app in any way, but I will say that the Kirnu dev must have learned a hell of a lot of good lessons about designing apps tailored to the iOS ecosystem, touch screens, and UX since releasing this desktop port.
The upcoming Buttersynth manages to get all the things right that possibly didn't quite hit the mark with Cream. A developer that watched, listened, and learned from past experiences. For Cream fans, you might also be pleasantly surprised just how deep ButterSynth's own built-in arpeggiator is.
Plus this new one has a great manual too
Is there a definitive answer as to whether or not Buttersynth will work as an AU on desktop M1 Apple Silicon computers?
@NeuM
Yes. ButterSynth works well on M1 macs.
And there are a few minor UI tweaks due that will improve it even further.
Thanks for that!
