Lots of neat things added in this update!

  • It's a cool app - great to see an update.

  • Read the warning before updating.

Going down from 5 to three loopers if updating.

  • Just think you guys, very soon you'll be able to put your moodscapes into gadget

  • I'm holding off - losing two loopers doesn't sound like much of an improvement to me.

  • Feels like Moodscaper is adopting the current Apple policy; less is more. :/

  • Hi Guys, in case you missed it in the "what's new in this version"...

Please note that this now means the total number of loopers available is reduced from 5 to 3. I’d really like to know if that’s a big deal for anyone, so please do let me know via the moodscaper.com contact form if it is, and I’ll try and work out a solution for you in a future release. In the meantime, hope you can get by with 3 loopers, and don’t forget that you can overdub on top of existing loop recordings.

The current feedback I'm getting is that the two additional functions are receiving more positive feedback than negative feedback regarding having 2 loopers less. I've actually had zero messages about it so far, but I guess it's early days.

Please do keep in mind that messaging via the site is your best bet for constructive criticism - I don't come here often ;)

You've always been a developer who follows his own path, Rob. Priorities for the app being what you believe will serve it best, with other ideas going to the back of the queue. I hope your sales figures prove you correct.

Personally, while I greatly admire what you have done, the app is moving away from what I want from it, and I've all but given up on Link and AudioBus compatibility. But that's just me. It's still a great innovative app.

  • +1 for what @Nkersov said!

I avoid posting feedback on product forums - in my experience if you post anything other than sycophantic praise, the other members are on you like a pack of dogs. Not saying this is the case with your own forum, but all the others I've used over the years. And as I became aware of your product on here, and I trust these guys like no others, it seems the best place to share our feedback, and make others aware they'll be losing some functionality if they proceed with the update.

I can't say whether the two new options are going to be worth losing two tracks without updating, so until I hear back from the guys on here I'll hold fire.

I love the sound of your app, but disappointed it hasn't progressed to be a 'pro' version, and losing nearly half of the loops feels like a backward step. But it'll be good to hear what other users think when they've taken the plunge.

  • Alas, I updated before reading the fine print. But I'm still not sure of the appeal of the 'Scaper apps. They sound absolutely lovely, but...I feel like it's cheating. I love to put it on when I'm working and let it cycle through its gentle washes.

But I can't shake the feeling that whenever I dabble in Moodscaper, I'm using the audio equivalent of a coloring book. A really nice, high-quality grown-up coloring book to be sure, like one of those expensive collections of mandala outlines. But still a coloring book.
I'm sure I'm doing it wrong. But am I?

I accidentally updated, because I figured you'd finally added the "pro" stuff like easy import of samples without having to use a computer and iTunes fileshare, etc. that you've implied was coming since early last Summer.

It's a nice app, and I haven't had a chance to play with the update yet (traveling) but the truth is, I've kinda put it on the back burner and forgotten about it until the promised "pro" features make it into it.

Another 'updated too soon' player here. And I regret it. Agree with Mister Monzo as regards Forums. And also that you have another life that means you don't come by too often (for SHAME!)....all good....also agree with Skip as regards this has shuffled back to the 'wait and see' folder. Hope things work out well for the app...

  • agree, that if these additional functions can be "added" to the existing app, then great. If it is at the expense of something else very useful like 2 loopers, then.....not great.

Yeah. I've been playing around with it, and I wish I could go back to the previous version.

  • I'll hold fire I think, based on the feedback so far.

In all seriousness guys, you won't update / want to go back to the previous version because you were using all five loopers and don't think the new features are worth having? I don't consider myself an expert, but in a live performance scenario, I never felt the need for more than 3, and that was using moodscaper as the only app. The timer feature was actually requested (by email) more than AudioBus support - go figure. The other feature was added because it makes the app sound better / more interesting in my humble opinion as the additional sounds weren't been used in auto modes. So, yeah that one was "following my own path" I guess.

Anyway, some of these comments are getting borderline personal, so I'm outta here. Website form if you need to get in touch for support or make suggestions and there's also the Facebook page which you are equally free to dislike ;) Bye.

It must be weird to see your personal labors discussed so coldly. If my comments were insulting: sorry. Nothing personal. Usually, though, app updates almost never include feature removals. People probably are reacting on principle rather than practice.

Maybe you could make the case for what the new update includes?

    Harsh.

That's what I thought. The members on here have been nothing but supportive of this app, which considering it doesn't support the thing we all use (Audiobus) shows what a magnanimous bunch we can be.

Even now the comments are still positive, despite the obvious disappointment some of us are feeling.

    Harsh response.

    Disappointing response.

Hey, we all have grumpy days, but despite our lack (sometimes) of tact or subtlety, I'm always amazed at what an interesting little free market research petri dish we accidentally provide here. Yeah, the wheat has to be separated from the goats, but still useful surely to some degree....anyway, each to their own etc.

No, everyone has been polite, encouraging as possible, for months on end, and very patient while being denied AudioBus support. Then the minute what you do isn't hailed as a work of genius, you turn your back on us.

Tell you what. I've just deleted the app. Bye.

  • I feel awful for starting this thread. I just innocently updated the app yesterday without really reading it. I bought the app a little while back because it was getting much praise, I haven't use it barely so I have no feelings one way or the other. Sorry both to the developer and to you guys. Don't think I'll ever start another thread again. :(

Please, do start as many threads as you wish. It isn't your fault that the developer chose a path which disappointed some long term customers, and doesn't like being told so.

I still feel creating the thread ended in hurt feelings in both camps. My innocent creation of this thread causing harm disturbs me quite a bit......
Especially on the heels of that incredibly upsetting thread yesterday.......

You shouldn't feel bad at all. It's a good app. The dev might be having a tough day. He's obviously put a lot of work into his apps and critique or feedback might not be easy to digest right after you've put a good deal of time into your "baby".

I like the app a lot. I was really looking forward to using moodscaper's generative algorithms on my own samples. You can do that but you have to jump through some hoops, use iTunes file sharing, etc. Not ideal and the dev has said a better non-itunes file sharing method was coming. Instead, he launched a new app. He's got to earn a living, but it was very disappointing that it appeared earlier promises were pushed further down his todo list.

  • I dig the app irrespective of loop count.

Ok thanks feeling better about it

  • As someone who has inadvertently offended all manner of folk over the years, quite by accident, I feel qualified to share the observation that offense is measured by the ears that hear, not the mouth that spoke. We can react however we like, but if Rob felt slighted, it may prove pointless to try to explain to him how he shouldn't feel that way.

If there's even the barest hint of wisdom in said observation, trust me, a long stretch of shattered or otherwise damaged friendships lies behind it. I learned, as per usual, the hard way.

My hope is @moodscaper will return on a brighter day and re-engage with the forum. He always came across as a chipper sort, and I quite like his apps. And we are the handiest focus group for iOS developers around, as the good Mr. Goodyear rightly pointed out.

    Very good! Let's hope so

  • Worth noting : the 3 loopers on the right can be linked to a common timebase which made them more usable imo than the lefthand ones that have gone in this update. That said the other loopers were useful for recording effect movements which ran freely over the syncopated loopers.
@moodscaper I'd perhaps suggest a toggle in the app settings menu to allow users to choose which they prefer if that's not too hard to implement?
