  • Hmmm, sounds good. Wish it was AU, but IAA also does the job.

  • Last update Dec 2015, maybe something new in the pipeline?

I'm finally synthed out. Didn't even buy poison 202

  • @Redo1 , catch Jakobs haq attaq live stream tonight for some poison-202 goodness. (Careful, you might fall off the fence!)

  • Does anyone know if this synth work with ios10 and cubasis because its not updated for a few years?

For Poison, you should make an exception. :) Especially cuz the new Jakob presets are amazing! Just echoing @gsm909 thoughts.

  • Phase84 and IOS 10 ?

Works fine for me, Pro/latest etc and while no AB (booooo) records fine IAA (just tested it with AS, but no further...)

Thanks again and much appreciated. You must have downloaded the whole app store on your ipad, lol.
Im quickly gonna buy this synth before the sales end and hope it also works with cubasis.

  • Just purchased and working fine with cubasis and iOS 10.

  • This synth sounds awesome. If you like the sound of Sunrizer you gonna like this synth a lot. Very rich/fat sounding.

  • Phase 84 midi learn?

  • So, here's an elementary question. Could I use this as a MIDI instrument in Garageband or Auria Pro? I've used both IAA and Audiobus with Garageband, but it just occurred to be that it only recorded the audio rather than the MIDI data. (Makes sense, considering they both have "audio" in their names...) So, is there a way to record the MIDI data into an iOS DAW and have it trigger an external app's sounds? Thanks in advance!

It does. I just checked and saw a button that says "midi learn"

    @Joel75

Good question. It only supports midi in, so you need to use your daw keyboard to record the keys and sends them to phase84. You can also use a midi keyboard to play/tweak with phase84 and record the midi into your daw. This way you can use Phase84 and still record the notes into your daw.

Not only a price increase but went to 10 dollars again. Not even tempted now. Really needed it like a hole in the head anyway. :p

I bought it for 2.99 euro yesterday and the store said the normal price was around 6,- Must be my lucky day with thanks to @mannix and @JohnnyGoodyear.

  • A tenner here now, or 12 and a half dollars. Cheaper than some (Z3ta+ would now cost me 25 dollars) but I feel my app buying days are going to few and far between this year. When I do I'll be a lot pickier, and ignore any that haven't had an update for a year, or don't support the holy Audiobus/IAA/Audioshare trinity. Or wait for the sales.

  • I'm loving it. Was totally worth 3$ since IAA works :D

  • It's a good synth, definitely in the $10 tier of quality. I use it a lot for the gate sequencer and bass. No other synth has that type of sequencer with such ease of use.

The gate thingie is pretty for sure...

  • Works , Air2, 10.2, but it doesn't take its tempo from from the IAA host (AUM)

  • @Proto, thanks for the reply. This is one of those cases where the more I think about it, the more confused I make myself. So would the DAW need MIDI out, or would the external app need MIDI out? I think GB does not have MIDI out, but I believe Auria Pro does. And then what about MIDI in? And would the requirements be different if i was using an external keyboard versus the on screen keyboard in the app? I've watched tutorials on AudioBus and IAA, but am having trouble finding anything related to recording MIDI data into GB or AP, using that data to trigger the sound from an external app, and then obviously ultimately recording the audio from the app into the DAW (I think I've got that part down). Apologies if this should have been a separate thread; I'm happy to make one if anyone would prefer.

Load iaa instrument on midi track in auria, not to audio track as fx

That sucks, would had bought it if i had money on the account that my app store is connected to :/ I dont think i need it so much that i would use 10€ for it, if it had AU then maybe..

  • @Joel75
It is confusing. Dont know about garageband but Auria Pro and Cubasis both support midi in and out and can trigger other instruments/apps. Audiobus only does audio and IAA can do both audio and midi. I mostly just add an IAA midi track and when finished i freeze the track and it creates an audiotrack. Most important is that an app supports midi-in so that your daws midi-out can connect to the midi in from the app/instrument. When using several midi tracks in your daw it can get complicated because you also need to set different midi channnels to avoid conflicts. If an app doesnt support midi out you can still play and record the midi from your daw using the in-build keyboard (daw),third party app or midi keyboard that supports midi out and send it from the daw to your apps midi In.
Midi is the most frustrating thing for me using ios and wasted so much time try to resolve issues/conflicts. Hope this helps a little for understanding.

  • @Proto, I really appreciate the tips! For some reason I didn't have the understanding that IAA also can send MIDI data. (Maybe it should be called IAAM...) When I get a free hour or 2 I'll get on the iPad and just do some experimenting with Auria and various synth apps. See what works and what doesn't. Thanks again for the help!

This was my worst mistake. Audio quality of Phase84 is just bad. I thought i cannot make a mistake with 2.99, but this was a very bad mistake. Just hear the bank "perc"! There is everything you need to say this is less than a toy. Would anybody consider these high-aliasing and boring "perc" sounds as percussion or drum in his music?

    Never!

Sound design? Not possible, this "synth" is too simple and does not sound good. The best thing is the delay - and you will need it very much to "polish" the sounds, which you can achieve. Okay, there will be about 3 or 4 "good" sounds (with lots of aliasing), hey, and the gate presets are indeed a bit fun. It has a "filter" with 4 options (LP with 6/12/18/24), but no envelope for this filter, LOL. On the other hand this filter sounds so EXTREMELY bad (most of free VST-synths have much better filter), that a missing of an envelope for the filter is quite exaggerated...

Sorry: Trash. Rubbish. Waste of money, even for 2,99.

    DONT BUY IT!!

  • I was not impressed with the demos of the sounds but still for 3 bucks I was tempted just to see if I could design some better ones on my own.

Maybe your taste is just bad. Great synth and my ears like it a lot while yours don't. If this synth sounds bad why are you the only one complaining about it. Great synth and much more worth then 2,99. Check different reviews about this synth and you'll discover most do like it. Don't talk crap.
