  • Agree. I had an iPad 2 with Auria for a while. Just kind of limited to ProQ on one or two tracks and then have to freeze. Had no problems with ProC, as it seemed to be a little process intensive. Think I could get two or three of those going at a time (while other track with effects are frozen of course). Used a lot of tricks etc to freeze a track and then use a bus etc to get more bang out of it. Then I finally upgraded to the iPad Air and I really sort of miss the restrictions in a sense, because I have very little self control. Easy to get lost in plugin land.

  • My fingers are sore from track freezing. Still waiting on more RAM from Apple. BM2's samplers have kept me in the clear so far but with the new version coming I may be on borrowed time

Recorded on a fostex vf160 (I think that's the name of it) and transferred to computer via SCSI jaz drive. How's that for vintage?!

That puts a good bit of perspective on this for me. I'm actually in the market for one of those 1995-2005 digital multi-tracks. They go for $100-$500 depending on the model and seller. Auria at $25 is suddenly just abundantly silly - it totally blows all of them away in terms of features.

Sidebar: Why don't I just use Auria? I want a) the immediacy of physical track arm buttons and other dedicated controls, b) to free up my iPad for more entertaining stuff and c) to never think about shit like ram or buffers when I'm trying to capture an idea. Anyone has one collecting dust, I'm interested. :)

  • My band mate has the Korg d3200, which can dump the tracks right to the computer as bounced wavs and is 24 bit, several of the songs on our album were tracked to that then moved to computer for overdubs. He does web programming all day and wanted to stay away from computers for recording. He uses GarageBand a lot these days for writing but still does use the Korg.

The fostex is not the easiest thing to use from what I remember, and was only 16 bit. The one advantage is that it has 16 physical inputs, so good for tracking a band. 8 mic preamps, then 8 line for the remaining channels. I used an sm pro 8 channel preamp that sounded decent with it.

But that Korg would serve you well I think.

That'd be me. Korg d3200 is on my ebay watch list. :) I should hang out with that guy.

  • Purchased this, registered, confirmed my email address, but did not receive the link to the free bonus content. Anyone having the same issues? Thank you in advance.

    @Pisadaan

yes, same here. There's a thread about it on their forums - http://auriaapp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=11174

it says to try this link: http://app.simplycast.com/?q=forms/take&i=100883 and if that doesn't work send them an email at [email protected]

so I had to send the email a couple of hours ago, hopefully later today I'll get the link for the bonus content, no rush at all. I'm really enjoying Auria btw but I think it's the first time I really feel the need to upgrade to Air. I'm on 4.

    EDIT: synthandson was quicker

  • @synthandson, @firejan82 Thank you both for the replies!

  • Just wanted to post that I did download Auria (the full version for $25 U.S.) and for anyone with an iPad2 that comes across this comment (and perhaps some of my earlier ones worrying about it), it absolutely does work with an iPad2. In fact, if you have it set up doing basic multitrack recording, I didn't notice any performance issues worse than what I had with MTDAW. You just have to use common sense as to how much you can be doing at one time, and the effects plug ins obviously can cause problems, but not if you do things one at a time and freeze tracks appropriately.

I also want to say that I got Auria in part because I got the SugarBytes apps (Turnado and WOW Filterbox) on sale awhile back and wasn't using them. Having those apps work as Auria plug-ins is so much easier than trying to use them as an AudioBus effect. I did no instruction manual reading and figured out immediately how to automate filter sweeps and other effects in Turnado. I look forward to recording simple guitar parts (even just ringing chords) and seeing what kind of weird and interesting stuff I can tweak out of them!

Also, the file management in Auria is top-notch. Direct DropBox implementation not just for AAF files, but also for saving projects. This is just a professional feeling app. Someday, I hope to have a faster iPad to use it with, but it's absolutely usable on iPad2 as is.

  • @StormJH1 Would be interested to hear a snippet or two of your guitar work via Auria/Turnado as and when you might be feel like sharing etc.

  • I've contemplated this app every time it goes on 50% sale... and I've been convinced this time! Thanks everyone for taking time for the discussion here.

  • @Hmtx Blow the doors off with it, whatever house you use it for...

Not sure if is only one day or not, but on sale again: 50% off.

  • Looks like the sale runs through Nov. 7th.

I keep debating on this one, since I use the iPad more as an augmentation to my hardware, and not as an all in one device. I mostly just want the FabFilter plugins, but those are pricey as IAPs.
