A trick featured in one of the vids:
Pick your favorite synth (or the great on inside Xynthesizr)
Crank up the tempo (goes up to 300bpm)
    Dial down to 1-2 steps
    Hit randomize button
    Seed notes (just a few)
    Press play

    • adjust probability of change to taste

    Enjoy

What does “Dial down to 1-2 steps” mean?

Let me know if it’s clear enough.

I'll try it out and get back to you. I'm using it on the iPad, so the bottom bar looks a little different, so I need to check.

  • What @audiblevideo is describing is in this video

Around minute 2:00 or so. The steps dial is also at the bottom in the iPad version.

Aw, thanks ED, but I can’t take credit for another’s work - images are by Phillip Bradbury and the soundtrack’s by ‘Jingle Punks’. It’s a YT find from a few months ago.

Posted because Xynthesizr gets folks curious about Conway’s Game of Life.

And I do love Xynthesizr :)

    @YuriT is an inspiration!

Very cool video Colonel, thanks for posting. Yup, I am curious about those settings as well, such as the Conways Game Of Life. I bet you do fine work too Colonel! As do I, I am also a big Yuri fan, the Dev is an inspiring legend and Xynthesisizr remains beloved by me. It never gets old and I always go back to it, such a lovely thing. Cheers, ED

+1 love all his stuff. I used Xynthesizr to make the first loop I demoed in my Gauss video. Yuri is an incredible dev.

  • Love love, and more love. Even though I typically use AUv3, I Still pop xynthsizer in the AUM IAA slot sometimes, I really enjoy the sequencer.

  • Yah it’s great. I have an old ipad running it & i midi it up to my krusty hardware & just let it do its thing while recording, chop it up, tons of variations & things I wouldn’t have considered.

  • A sequencer without swing though. Like Axon. Why do programmers go to all the work and yet leave out such a basic function that cripples their creation?

Because it didn’t fit their design paradigm? I really don’t understand why people keep asking questions like this.

Something isn’t crippled just because it doesn’t match one’s preferred feature set. A lot of great music makes use of machine swing and a lot of great music doesn’t use it.

Lacking swing is not a case of something being crippled. Some of the best electronic dance music was made with a drum machine that doesn’t do swing.

Sure but why? It’s a main feature of dance music around the globe for nearly a century now. Why would anyone decide it’s unnecessary for a product marketed to the masses who like to create more dance music? This is what I don’t understand.

There's no swing control on the 808.

I never use swing; I find it corny. It sounds even more robotic than a strict tempo to my ears. It's like an aural uncanny valley.

I meant good dance music with no swing. I've never heard any.

The trick is to give each element a different amount. If everyone is on the same ratio it becomes unnatural.

...and we're back to the "personal preferences" point.
