Ha ha this absolutely smokes my iPhone 5, not a single patch can be played. Anyways. Bought it to support the developer. Awesome synth. Looking forward using it on my ipad.

Im on 5s and its constantly stuttery. Had to switch to the pixelated Air 2 version. Bummer

Not one single stutter on my iPhone 5S...

  • Why iPhone only ? And what's the difference TF7 (i.e. do I need this if I already got TF7 with all iAPs)...?

Tenacious Frog may be good devs... But they are not clear when it comes to communication I guess...

  • It's a free to try app so trying on my iPad anyway. Bought the IAP for the arp. I like it and have TF7 the arp is different for sure.

  • extensive features, small footprint, small price. works great on 5s.

  • It follows the golden rule for apps! It is fun to use!

TF7 is an FM synth, TF8 is analog-modelled.

I have to say the string presets sound incredible. I'm more impressed with the sound of this than that other, much more expensive synth released recently. The reverse delay is a cool effect to include as well.

Is there a main output control I'm missing? Half the patches hit the red and distort. I HATE when devs max the volume of their presets, especially when there's no master output lock upon switching (which there almost never is). But seriously, volume control anywhere?

Edit: found it, dead center. Will leave my stupid post up for posterity's sake.

  • Impossible to resist for this at this price. Another one for the virtual synth cabinet.
    Hope it becomes universal though.

  • Fantastic synth engine, this & Layr are mythical creatures ...

  • Great one to add to the list of free synths for people just getting started in iOS music making.

Part of the reason for my buying the IAP was developer support, because he is really unselfish when it comes to sharing with us. And he does nice work I should add!

  • A lot of work went into making this large amount of great sounding presets I should think!

  • This app is a win win winner.

    Hell yeah.

I would like to see more from this company. They do really clean nice work on the 2 apps they have.

Through it on iPad and was fun using Launchpad pro Grid to play this app BTW

The work style of the design is recognizable.

  • Extra bonus points for the Forum Member who comes up with a Jesus Pickles preset, irrespective of the app :)

  • So, bought the IAP and it's a really great value for what i get for sure.
I'm sure i will have some fun to create some experimental patches.
Only downside, i miss 3D touch support.

  • edited March 2017

ok so the presets sounded great so I bought the IAP. But the knobs are screwed! Terrible! Can barely get them to move in the direction I want wtf? No 3D Touch on either. Anyone else?

EDIT: left and right movement for the knobs. Sigh. These are not very good knobs folks

This name slipped nicely into my "pickle" themed presets. And "16-megapickle sensor" was already taken.

@brice Very good. Look forward to hearing it. To be honest my initial thought was the first words out of the owner of the dog who apparently discovered the previously stolen World Cup trophy in 1996: "Jesus, Pickles!"

I think there may be a bug in TF8, beyond being too much for an iPhone 5 to handle. The stuttering, and harsh distortion I'm getting from the iPhone 5 is similar to the strange behavior I got from controlling this synth via external midi when using an ipad Air 2.

On the Air 2, when I control it via GeoShred, the output is extremely loud and distorted into clipping. It's fine if I turn the volume of TF8 almost all the way down. Controlling TF8 via TC-DATA is cool, but the volume level, contrary to the normal volume setting, the output of TF8 is very low.

Via the Air 2, I noticed other weirdness controlling it from external apps the frequently produced an output that was waaaaay too hot, distorted and clipping. Most of the time I could just adjust the volume in TF8 to compensate, but the inconsistency and the amount of clipping distortion produced, sounded similar to what you get using this on an iPhone 5.

I'm going to shoot this to the dev, but I'm guessing he already knows about it by this point.

They are mostly finicky to set. The volume takes several attempts for me to get it turned all the way down.

Likely just first version tweaks that need to happen. Maybe that's the reason for the "sale", ie. release it on sale as sort of a paid beta-test period... then fix the bugs before the price goes back up to normal. If so, I don't really have a problem with this approach, as long as the bugs get fixed soon.

Yeah I thought they were messed up at first so I told the dev on Facebook, that's when he said they were left to right. I also noticed that the slower you move over them, the less movement is required. Weird. The arp note knobs are even worse though because they are less sensitive. Dev said he would look into it, but in the meantime if you move over them slowly, rather than swiping, it works better.

  • Are there any instructions anywhere for this?

Move them slowly and drag diagonally between lower left and upper right corners (rather than directly left/right) is reasonable on my iPhone 6

Poly mode is too much for iPhone 5,use mono for smooth playback and fix might be in next update.

Likely, but that doesn't explain the similar issues using my iPad Air 2 when controlling via external midi.

I've already messaged the dev and he's already responded that he's looking into it, and that he hadn't tested with multiple devices and/or various apps.

  • works fine on 5s, poly, FX and all...

  • I think the discount was for access to the beta. Surely after the 31st, the knobs will be fixed, the y axis values on the pad inverted, volume output adjusted, an init preset added, a manual put up, and an option to unlatch the arp implemented.

I think the dev is called on the forum @Lppier (greetings) - sequencing tf8 with 'midisequencer', the velocity can be seen all the way up, turning it down to mitigate. The virtual port (source) seems to be defunkt, picked up Aum's virtual (destination) to receive arp midi out, which looks to be sending monophonic only.
