    No, never!

Yeah. You're right. The sad/lucky thing is that I have friends here in town who would be happy to sit me and the Taylor down (and for nothing). When I lived in Maine in the middle of nowhere I would have driven an hour to sit down once a week with them, but now they're next door.....human nature, odd business. BUT a good nudge all the same...

Something you can tap, strum, stroke or blow which results in a symphony to record with your mic.

The Stroking and Blowing sounds good, but my cat's dead and the clarinet I used to keep on my mantle is long gone. Maybe sax lessons....hmmmm...would be taking advantage of another present from a few years ago that hasn't gotten much play....

Not quite birthday, but close enough that Madam is asking for ideas (I have many).

How many Madams do you have :o

There is only one thing that springs to mind for me - and that would be a Roland TB-3 (not 03)- maybe second hand to keep within your price range.

Never come across that. Might have to be something for me to save up for and my for myself as a present....thanks.

And you can see if you like BT in the process. I personally love ditching the cable.

I'd go with the iRig Keys Pro. Or if you somehow found $800 to go with that initial $150, https://www.teenageengineering.com/products/op-1

OK and here is why Bluetooth
    1) you can take it into coffeeshops where cables are frowned upon
    2) you can continue to play your melodies while opening the door to the post man
    3) you can continue to tweak the knobs while getting a cup of coffee from the kitchen
    4) you can walk around the room while recording your rhythms on the pads
    5) etc etc

Yes. That OP. Yum. Smells like indulgence. I've been thinking of buying myself (me, me, me) something for when (hopefully) the kid goes to college (another three or four years yet) as a present for getting him/me/us through that far. I'm guessing the Missus would say 'Convertible!'....but I'd take this or its equivalent by then....

  • You know me well enough (I'm guessing) to also know that I'd have to go for the pre-built (unless they could send a man to the house etc)....

Well the coffee shop makes a lot of sense (no postmen here in Texas). We have a great place on the corner which I seem to be spending more and more time (and app-equivalent-expenditures) in. But it's a little cheek-by-jowl.....my guess is that once you get used to the BT you love it. Only complaints I ever hear are getting it connected/latency issues.....nothing about the idea or utility of the thing. I also spend more time on airplanes than I'd like, BUT find travel a productive place to work on songs, so.....

Do you have a pair of big, studio headphones?

    Or, a Bugbrand Board Weevil.

I am the Imelda Marcos of headphones and should probably 'spend' birthday money on getting some of them fixed up (but that just seems too sensible and dull). As for the Board Weevil This is exactly the kind of thing I'm trying quietly to avoid. I sense there is a whole world of awesome crazy bespoke mad objects out there that my collector gene would spend whatever time's left buying up, leaving me as an old man, unshaven and wild-eyed, surrounded by endless (non-Korg) gadgets, but without any apparent family members. HOWEVER, if I ever get to Wales and need a Hostess Gift for @Monzopro THIS is precisely the ticket!

Trouble in airports right here :) Or on the back or the bus or while waiting outside of department store changing rooms. Shame (apart from the method) that I have so little rhythm....

Just slow this one right down with beat time and you're in the game. I think most of the time it is not the lack of rhythm but the lack of practice is the cause of wonky rhythms, if there's no inclination, that's another story ;)

So cool. The beard would take me at least five years.

I suspect you're right (to at least an intermediate degree) as regards practice/rhythms etc. I'm sure if I subscribed to the Mister Yot 'Do It Every Day' type of regimen I would improve. As with most things...

If you are into KORG Gadget, I've found the NanoKEY Studio to be a great buy. I find the having tactile knobs to turn had provoked me to use more modulation in my tracks, which I rarely did before. The keys themselves feel a little weird, but I am far from an actual pianist, so I don't mind.

It works well with other apps of course (Moog Model 15, etc.).

  • Two idea: Shure SM-58 / Cable / Mic Stand bundle from Sweetwater. Or a pair of Lee Oskar harmonicas.

I have an SM-58 kicking around but the pair of harmonicas is a lovely idea because (for me) it's so left field...

  • Love the video. Especially the tennis racket idea :) But all those wires reminded me of Popular Mechanics...

I really like the modulation aspect for sure....in fact, your post is exactly what I'd love to be writing in a few months time. That would be a win for me I think.

A tad boffiney, but maybe it would help educate the non-theory-boffins among us. Certainly looks like a nice design and they've done great with their KS campaign. Of course I think Brad is one of those pernicious professional Englishmen abroad here in America. Avoid them if you can...

  • Used cassette 4 track?

  • A MIDI footpedal, while not particularly sexy, can really open up looping and effects apps if you like to fiddle in real-time while you play.

I imagine you'd get a lot out of a used vocal foot pedal with effects and harmonies and the like. Not sure what those go for but Austin must have a healthy Craigslist instruments section.

Have you considered a total pivot like a guitar or bass or ukulele?
