Thanks all, glad people liked the presets. Agree with @brice re the sunsets thing. Definitely a beautiful timehole app where you get lost and come out eventually and realise it's 3am. It is actually very easy combining a few premade instruments and tweaking them a bit to make your own performances. Kind of a sound design lite option if you dont want to start with an initialised layer but do want to combine stuff to make sounds of your own.
I have had a period of non buying apps lately, but, today I got my inspiration back and bought LayR...
Wow! Great app with great depth!
The new patches from Mr. Brice and Mr. Lullaby seems to really justify this apps strength!
Good work there guys!
Rock on all musiclovers out there!
I'm waiting for a sale. I can't justify spending £20 on another synth no matter how good it is (and this does look good), so in the meantime I'm running Nave and a few others at the same time via AUM and my MIDI apps.
Well. Might be 25-30 later once apple raises their prices again
Mr. Monzo, I've spent thousands of Euro/Dollars on music apps for my iPads and iPhones, and, have sometimes regretting some of the spendings, but, in this case, the fabulous LayR, I could have thrown away 50 Euro if that was the prize...
LayR is fuckin' unbelievable advanced and sounds so so great!
But, when I connected my big iPad Pro into my Apogee One v2 and my Roland 2.1 subwoofer system, LayR depth was amazing...
My thinking goes to Pink Floyd into the seventies, what could them done with this music app...?
Sell something else if you don't have the 20 bucks to LayR - it could not be better!
Sad, but true.
I'd love to have the money to buy it, the sad truth is I've had almost no work this year as my business has been badly hit by the Brexit vote (a lot of my clients rely on EU grants, so are twitchy about comissioning new work), so I'm having to be really cautious on what I buy now. I've only bought four apps so far this year - the last was Chordflow as it was only £6.99, and filled a gap in my music making toolbox. I'm hoping to use it in a band environment for triggering chords and arps while we play live over the top. Hopefully we'll be gigging soon so it could even pay it's way.
Fortunately like you I've already spent thousands over the years, so have a pretty decent range of synths and other music tools.
As I said this synth sounds great, and would no doublt fill a space in my toolkit - but I can't justify buying another synth at this price at the moment. This is absolutely no reflection on the app itself, and I don't want to dampen anyone's enthusiasm for it, I was just empathising with Skip who seems to be of a similar mind.
Interesting....but as great as those demos sound i find the FX still on the mediocre side and while i found the bass patches surprising juicy i find the more complex patches sounds a bit thin, not detailed and you need so much more layers to get sounds you can create with 1 or 2 Model 15 patches f.e.
Also i still find the synth engine itself a bit limited.
I still think you can get a lot more complexity and interesting timbres if you use 2-3 iOS synths via Audiobus and so.
Sorry if that sounds a bit negative but it´s how i see/hear it.
Sure you can create some fantastic complex and evolving sounds (ala Mitosynth, Alchemy etc.) but it seems to get a bit blurry and mushy all. It really needs better FX and especially FX i can modulate all parameters to achieve complex but also very detailed sounds.
I mean it´s "just" 20 bucks but these days i just judge the sound and possibilities.
I just find still not much special compared to all the other iOS synths.
But i also think it has a few unique things you might not find in other iOS tools.
F.e. creating patches for the Seaboard Rise (via splitting midi) could be very interesting.
@Cib - as you say here, there's a lot of possibilities with other synth-apps together with Audiobus/AUM, but, in LayR you/we have every tool integrated to do amazing stuff...
Moogs Model 15 may sound a little better in my old ears, but, it really fun to have all different choices when playing around with sounds/noise...
And, as @MonzoPro and @skiphunt mention, you can't buy everything if the wallet just now don't allow it...
But I'm happy that the iOS music community is growing with amazing and powerful music apps...
Of course, i agree here.
But while i think it´s still very useful to have such multi-timbral tools it might be not so important when iOS DAW´s let us layer synths and FX, samplers, AUV3 etc. and save that as performence (like you already could do right now of course with some workarounds).
I feel ya for sure. I need to make a folder and tell myself I am only going to use this collection of apps to see a project through. I consume and learn. Something new to me gets my attention and then it's off to the school of tutorials and manuals for the weekend.
I love it. This synth sounds top notch from the demos but it looks a bit daunting in it's complexity.
Thor is my current conquest. But I tracked down about 600 patches for it. Not sure I will ever totally understand it.
Care to share some Thor Presets?
Sure! I just went through and updated all my presets because I got a second ipad and wanted to take the chance to tidy them up. Ironically, all my Thor presets are in one big folder (literally like 600) and not in their own folders because of the way Thor' file mgmt is. I just dropped them all into my user presets. I Will post a link tonight.
Thanks man! Just revisited this majestic synth and paired it with LayR! Wow just loving a patch by DW Rhodes on Thor mixed with LayR? OMG!
Loving LayR and Thor, they're like such awesome pair of Synths!
Yeah, kinda over it for now. Dug into the plethora of fine synths I already have. Also starting to interface what I already have with my desktop Logic Pro setup. I'm good for awhile and don't really need any more sound toys at the moment.
Will revisit this one somewhere down the trail I think.
For me Nave is the synth that keeps on giving - pure joy that one and probably my favourite at the moment.
Fresh LayR update today with excellent new features. And there's a new collection of Brice presets that's stunning. I don't know what dark magic this boy @brice has tapped into, but his wizardry with LayR presets is genius scary.
Yeah this is early Christmas everyone!!!! This mega synth has leaped beyond amazing!!!! With all the available presets it’s huge!
Thanks Brice for such awesome talent and gifted programming!
Just been surfing through the new @brice presets, wow!
Going to spend much time working out how they hang together.
Hi, I think that I don't have additional presets after lat update. How many presets should be ini Brice's 120 and 121 and RSL's 110 folders?
Thanks
I just found extra folders with lots of new presets here:

It starts on 5:16
Sounds really good, still on my ‘must get it’ list this one.
I just did the update but the new presets aren't showing up. Is this an iOS 11 only deal? I'm still on 10.3.3
I’m on IOS 11 latest.
Once you update, you must wait for the app to announce that you would like to update the presets as well, just click ok each time, i think its twice that it asks you then, at the end it will say update completed or something. If that didn’t work you probably should reinstall, but first save any custome made presets you may lose.
Yeah - I got the pop up. Twice actually, and gave the thumbs up both times. Once that was done, I popped in but the most recent one I have is Brice's Cinematics collection.
Don’t know but i have Brice’s Abstract and Cinematic sets...Do you see those?
This is what I'm seeing. It's the same as it was prior to the update. Am I just not looking in the right place?
See the video in my last post - new collection of presets are in different place - 5:16
Ok, I see - there are new INSTRUMENTS, but not new PERFORMANCES.
Is that why I was missing it?
Wow!!! - great update!!
