Which linnstrument? I've been planning on the smaller one, but this block keyboard is enticing.
But Roger lives up the hill from me, and you can pick it up at his house, which I have been looking forward to.
Oh cool! Just listened to an interview he did last year about MPE and it was just fascinating. He may be a legend in these parts but he sounds like a really nice guy.
And the Linnstrument does have some advantages, such as the fact that you can play it while standing. Linn made it sound like @GeertBevin had a lot to do with some of the key decisions made in the product. It’s fascinating to hear Geert play Animoog with another MPE device.
Has anyone else heard anything about Apple acquiring ROLI?
I got a used 128 and honestly it's plenty of grid for my purposes and it's small and light enough to fit in a backpack. Roger is amazing to work with--very quick to answer emails and thoughtful and detailed in his responses. It's early days but I love it so far.
Would be worth buying one just to meet the guy, of course if he agreed to you videoing the encounter..
I haven't. I know they sell their products and the Blocks are exclusive to the Apple Store but I haven't heard anything about them acquiring them.
He is pretty accessible here in the east bay. I've met him at several events and even run into him around town. We had a great talk about geoshred as a poor man's linnstrument.

Thanks for the questions! The Seaboard Block sends standard MIDI data so can be used with any 3rd party MIDI applications. Some 3rd party applications will be able to unlock the full expressive potential of the Seaboard's surface, and BLOCKS Dashboard allows you to set the exact behaviour of the Seaboard Block to suit the needs of any musical applications. And yes, it does with with Seaboard 5D :-)
Cool!
I know right Im buying 2
So I would have to use a Mac to setup the Seaboard Block using the Blocks Dashboard?
How necessary is Touch Block to adjust the behavior? Doesn't look like settings are adjustable on an iOS device. I don't mean sounds of course, but the keyboard's behavior.
I supose some kind of update at its release time.

Do you like Barcelona? I need friends like you near
Im there in sprit my good chap
Geoshred is how I started my journey toward a Linnstrument. Roger has been very open to my observations about how GS works vs the LS core experience.
So are the main differences between this and the Seaboard Rise:
I'm wondering where the £300 extra on the RISE goes, basically.
From the link I updated into my other comment:

No top C as you can put two of these together to make a continuous 4 octave keyboard. Street price in the UK appears to be £279.
The Noise app has the touch block features included for use in the app....
That's great news! While $300 is quite a bit for a small keyboard it is something rather special. Having to spend another $80 to access some interface buttons really seems like too much.
This will be great to get used in about a year or too. Too expensive to buy new.
I need two for that reason omg game changer for me
Ditto. I just got a light wave block for £50 on eBay
Nice get! And... How do you enjoy it?
Almost bought one at the Apple Store to try it out but it feels too weird to purchase something with no intention of keeping it. So far, echoes about it have been somewhat mixed but the message sounds a bit like “it can be a fun little addition to a more complete setup, but it’s too expensive for what it is”. Been wondering about Bluetooth pairing, which needs to be incredibly seamless and gains a lot of value if you can easily switch from one host to another. Sounds like some people have had issues with Bluetooth connectivity, which isn’t surprising given the fact that most BT devices require a lot of fiddling.
So... Not expecting a review, but given your approach to these things, @BiancaNeve, it’d surely be interesting to hear your general thoughts.
Plus, given the Seaboard Block is the missing piece of the ROLI Blocks puzzle, knowing more about this one could help us get a better idea of what potential these “modular controllers” have.
I've not really had a chance to play with it since the update to the Noise app
But the update apparently includes the ability to control the sensitivity of the block in respect of how hard you need to press it which hopefully will make it a lot more useful as I had found you needed to hit it pretty hard to get a note out of it.
So assuming that works as advertised it's a clever piece of kit but it only really seems to work with the Noise app.
I did connect it to Beathawk but the pads aren't in the right order and since it doesn't seem to send note on / note off messages but rather constantly varying pressure messages the a note off message I'm not clever enough to be able to re-map it.
So overall I would say it's worth what I paid for it, but I would have been gutted if I'd paid full price.
I'd like to see Roli release an app that made the midi a bit more compatible with other apps
Now you get also Tracktion Waveform DAW for free with any Seaboard (also the Seaboard block)...worth €99.
(Add that to the Equator synth, Bitwig 8 track and Strobe 2 the value of a Rise 25 getting better).
i played one of these at gearfest, and they are totally worth the price. mpe instruments are so much fun to play. the expression is so natural. it's like playing real physical instrument. I purchased and am using the roli lightpad, and it is fantastic. if you have synthmaster on desktop it works as a mpe instrument as well. so coo
