  • @theconnactic overall i liked this one, apart from the shredding - the shredding felt a little pointless since it didn't really add anything melodically to the song, but the slower sections were really nice, I like the simple melody with the bent note that you used as the motif, and I thought the dueling guitars were really great. Guitar tone was lovely as well.

As ever the playing, especially the timing, was excellent.

  • @studs1966 Bet you're a busy lad over there in the sun. Long nights filled with long songs I'd imagine. From a quick Rick Waltz, to a flood of Studs Bosa Nova. And once the dance clubs have closed, blag your way into the Kennel versions because when mine heard this a few days ago, they enjoyed it and Sid moved his shattered ACL ligaments for the first time in a while. Thank you. You've heard enough of my drivel so I'll leave it up to him and Nancy to congratulate you. 'Woof, Woof, fuck.' Translated means 'Dance music guru, where's the Sleafords?' Your released tune is also top shelf. :)

  • @theconnactic 'lightening fast guitar improvisation,' you don't say. Argos feels heavier than your Metal track a month or so back. I gave myself a slap for liking the piano slightly more than the guitar. Yes, the usual brilliance on string things and as fast as Hamilton on Coke, but It's about the piano riff. This should be the only soundtrack running through a slasher movie. Send to David Gordon Green for Halloween 9 which is out next year. Professional and thought provoking. :)

  • @trackedout You are different, unique. Only you could create this mental masterpiece. Completely insane and like nothing I've heard before. First listen took me back to a kid trying to drown me. The sound you have created and delivered, is similar to that of a head trying to break the surface of water ten times a second to rape air..... amplified by a million. Bizarre yet beautiful. Those bass spikes at 1.12, and the strangled cowbell at 1.21 fit the craziness. Brass has played a fair part in your recent outings and this is Homeland on Jobseeker's Allowance. Ah, noticed a second one from you. This is for the original. :)

  • @realdavidai Top notch gear here. Production is pure. Must compliment you on your bass drum sound sir. A wooden bass drum beater wrapped in fleece. Punches in the correct places and doesn't hurt at all. The vocals are the definition of clarity. Good shout with the spoken Chinese and because it carefully joins your party, would've loved to hear more. Polished with Brasso leaving a shine attached to the whole song and agree about it being very radio friendly. Look forward to hearing more of you. :)

  • @DefRobot Oh go on then. Disgusting, filthy guitar..... I'm in. The whipping out into 'Me' at 1.48 is a creative joy, and the stops at 1.48... in fact loving all the drum sounds here.
"It's buuurnin, buuurnin,' are the words I go away with. Catchy and sung in a captivating manor. And what... two solo's, one for each lug cannot be ignored and why would anybody anyway. An unexpected union of guitars to experience, played with finesse. Absorbing song that sits just the right side of Long Song Syndrome. Keep that hunger sir. Can hear it in your first two lines and that in turn, makes me ravenous for more. Far superior space in this and congratulations on that. :)

@fattigman that's a fun track and the video is great. I don't think I could ever get my family involved like that, they all just find my musical endeavours tedious at best.

Thank you @richardyot that was first time my daughter agreed to participate. I almost had to bribe her to make her sing for me. From what I've heard it's not unsual that family members don't want to be part some other family member's music production.
The ukulele is like my best friend but we're only aloud to post ipad-related stuff here right?

  • @realdavidai wow - that's a really great and commercial sounding track. The vocal melodies are truly excellent and it's a really catchy pop tune with a great groove. I can totally imagine this as a commercial release and a hit to boot.

The Chinese influence is a nice touch, and isn't overdone. I'm not sure about the spoken word, that to me is the only weakness in the song, but everything else is really good - especially the vocal.

@Shaken&;Stirred welcome to the club and congratulations on making your first entry. Be sure to keep up with the monthly rhythm :)

For a first entry it's very good, an assured vocal performance, ambitious production, even harmonies - good stuff. Nice dynamics, great playing - look forward to the next entry.

thank you sir, I appreciate the feedback!

    Thanks @Bluepunk.
Over here mate. It's a tad warm. Been cleaning the Pools in an average 40C - 57C in the Sun + Humidity. (temp apps lie, even when there stating 36C in the shade). :'(

    Hope SId is ok?

    ;)

  • @JohnnyGoodyear Wow. Words. Power. Felt. I could go on about your mesmerising, melodically wondrous Piano, or your best rhythm section to date (and the space you've created around it), or the rasp of your reality as you comb through our soles (welcome and adore that), or how you scrape your tonsils on everything 'Rises' and 'Ride' and in particular, the last two at 2.45 made me shudder. But I won't, and instead if I could be selfish for a moment, and highlight your line that FROZE me dead.

'These are the children and corpses who still hope for the best.'

Thank you for song. Thank you for your words. As always. :)

  • @DefRobot Nice riffing there, like the intro riff and the others used throughout the track. Vocals are also really good, nice melodies, and musically it's a great song.

I also like the contrast between the sweet sounding vocal and the gritty distorted guitars. My only complaint is that I think the production could be more muscular-sounding, more powerful, because it sounds a bit timid and doesn't really suit the guitars. I think the main culprit here might be the drums, they're too restrained, for example some more aggressive cymbals in the chorus parts might give them a lift. Imagine how John Bonham would drum on this one, and I think that would give the track a massive lift, which would really complement that excellent guitar and vocal work.

  • @crouchie we'll overlook posting an old tune (since I've revisited past work as well, and dammit I'm the gaffer), for favoured members we can consider relaxing the rules now and then.

First things first: I miss hearing your vocal. Obvious thing to say but it's true.

The track is good though, lots of interesting sounds and textures and that beat is oh-so-funky. The snare sound is a bit harsh though, and does give the whole song a bit of an edge. That transient is so sharp you could cut yourself, and you hear it for four of the six minutes the tune plays for. I think the best thing about this track is all of the interesting little background sounds you hear, especially in the break. It's definitely a tune to dance to while off your head on some very synthetic drug.

  • @crouchie See it was 23.15 hrs last night and I was Killing Joke'd out. So I played your rhythm addiction romp to chill. Ha... chill! No chance and thanks. You are one of the few that can get away with a 'clean shave, to a five o'clock shadow' length tune. The rhythm owns a twisted mind and along with The Prodigy synth feeling thing, your audacious plan has payed off. Throw the dodgy snare over here please.... and everything else. Touched me again and danced it a few times to hit that snare beat (which is bliss by the way). Forcing off beat Hue and Cry choreography on to a Punk shouldn't work but does. Brilliant, dynamically deft tune that if you ever decide to sing along to with your lyrics, could be sung in this way. See, this is where your song took me both musically and physically. Back to KJ and a gig I was lucky to be at. Think it has similarities to this and I haven't worked out why. Gigantic gear you've created Crouchie. :)

  • @aaronpc that's a really delicious slice of crazy pie, I really love the track because it's so wonderfully eccentric.

Vocals could maybe come up a bit, so we can enjoy the great melody and awesomely weird lyrics a little more. Extra points for having such a good vocal melody in a weird/experimental track, because that's my favourite combination of all time and very hard to pull off.

One thing I particularly enjoyed when listening to this is the sense of growing appreciation: at the beginning of the song I'm thinking "OK this is a bit weird, what's it about?" and by the end I don't care what it's about because I'm swept up in that joyful strangeness. The track has a fun boppy groove and an almost psychedelic sense of whimsy. Psychedelia for the year 2017.

Only thing I wasn't keen on was the second section, I would end the track at 4' 36". The outro just doesn't feel like it belongs. Otherwise top marks.

  • @trackedout this one is pretty mellow and together by your usual standards, but I really like the change of pace. One of the great things about this club is getting to know all the different artistic personalities on offer, and despite the different feel to your previous work this track is still very much you, which is great.

I really like the vulnerable quality in the vocal, it really helps to convey the emotion in the song, gives an additional edge of sadness that really goes with the lyrics. The instrumental backing is really interesting with the blend of guitars and synths, and the disparate parts somehow manage to gel with the voice as a coherent whole.

It's been another great month with some fabulous entries all around.

There's no rules that constrain the entries here to anything. Ukuleles are especially encouraged as it happens.

  • @Bluepunk thanks man, glad you liked it and I appreciate your input... yeah I guess brass has been catching my imagination lately, big band has always been an interest of mine and just trying to loop that into my style has been a regular ...I wrote this out of anger . What makes me so special if I die kinda thing you know, alright thanks

  • @richardyot thanks for giving your time to listen. I really did feel lots of emotions writing the whole thing and I'm glad it projected out to the listener, I feel I been exploring different styles more and more and it feels natural , not too drastic.. don't know if any of my previous entries show my style with just one song, but all of em create it. Thanks for your input

  • @Shaken&;Stirred not to say it was bad cause I did like your vocals and mix , but for me I like to hear a little of a room or a vibe around vocals, and we create a false room or air feel with reverb.. thanks for listening to mine.. it was a depressing subject I had in mind when writing it.. ..mimagree with some of what you said , I didn't spend too much time mixing it. Thank you

Thank you, @Bluepunk! Your reviews are always a good read!

  • @Bluepunk, I’m really impressed you got those guitar tones with Guitarrism only. It sounds better as a wall of sound than many recordings that used a real guitar. Congrats! Enjoyed this one, and the starts and stops were very cool. Nice vocal performance - you don’t just sing, you interpret the song, not a widespread quality among singers. Thumbs up!

  • @crouchie, nice beat! The pumping alarm sound the goes throughout the song is almost a beat by itself, very cool.

  • @trackedout, I see the thumbnail of your song but it doesn’t play; did you remove it? Otherwise my iPad is having issues (I’m on iOS 11).

@theconnactic although you've taken my imaginations favorite part of listening to music away I enjoy your videos . And your music. Very impressive the way you choose to do your drums. I think your distorted guitar might have come in a bit too loud for the mix.. in my eyes at least. Good job

    Thank you!

  • @theconnactic hey my song is further down the line cause I removed it and reposted

  • @trackedout, just found it! Great song, some interesting harmonies happening, almost a counterpoint. Very much like early 2000's alternative rock. Great mix, your vocals are well performed and this time, very clear. Thumbs up!

  • @aaronpc, that is a great track, very reminiscent of Franz Ferdinand in their prime. Enjoyed everything, lyrics, harmonies, sample usage; great mix, IMHO ready for commercial release. Thumbs up!
