  • @Bluepunk That review was absolutely hilarious mate! Please do more of those. Gonna subscribe to your channel.

@richardyot Any thoughts on the question I posed to you above about combining Song of the Month and Covers Club into one monthly thread?

Sure, for the time being if you have a cover you can enter that as your SOTMC entry.

In some countries, this could be considered as high treason.
    Yeah, sure. See what happens...
Or - 'Go ahead punk. Make my day'.

Edit - but on a serious note @jwmmakerofmusic , I look forward to your cover. Not dabbled with the covers club myself, yet...

  • @serosin Starts like a soundtrack, but then the beat comes in and it's a pure joy. Killer.
Wasn't as keen with the second upbeat change. Turned it a bit europop.
    Then it gets edgy again.
Personal taste, but some editing and this could be all killer, no filler.

  • @Master_Ascendant Some great metal elements to this, but I feel the production is a touch on the tinny side.
Some editing, compression and eq could help here.
Made to be heavier this could be a proper headbanger.

    Sweet, Thank you!

  • @Bluepunk, that was FUCKING EPIC. That alone will make me get Lumafusion.

  • @Master_Ascendant, got to work on that mix. I love the guitar sound, but then the drums come in, and I can't hear them. They have to punch through the same as the guitar, got to be right there. The kick should boom, the snare snap. Arrangement needs much more, it's the same riff over and over, needs a break or two in there. If there is a bass, I can't hear it at all.

@marliess it's a bouncy and infectious track, one of your best ones yet I think. I love the boppy groove, gets my toes tapping, and the vocals are great, especially the melody that wants to be sang along to. The subject matter is terrific as well. Good job.

Thanks for having a listen @richardyot , appreciate the feedback. Cheers :)

Dude, really enjoyed the v2 offering...lush production and the percussion really suited the vibe...it also felt very 'human' which is a great achievement. Lovely little repeated vocal refrain in the outro too. Thanks for the feedback on my tune also...will def dabble with a dryer vocal mix for the next one.

  • THANK YOU ALL for your kind words and encouragement. Appreciate you taking up your valuable time to watch and comment. On the technicals, @marliess had to be bribed to send the music and cover art files over to The Poxy, and wasn't cheap. Is there an easy way that I can steal any of your tunes/cover from SC without having to hassle/warn the victim, and then upload to LumaFusion to review/record? I only have an iPad and a small, empty brain you see. Cheers.

Back to the most important thing in this Club; The people....... and their Music. :)

    Thank you .

Well democracy is so full of flaws - all those people who disagree with you for example. I think a benign dictatorship, with me at the helm, would be far more satisfactory. Let's make it happen!

Reminds me of being driven in a town car late at night over the Queensboro Bridge or through the Midtown Tunnel ("on my way home...") out to the disco badlands of Queens in the early nineties. Everything was a 12 inch mix back then...Odd good memories.

What did you use for the bass on this?

Sorry Johnny for the late reply....... Very busy...... Thank you for your kind comments..... I used a Fretless Bass, with Chorus Fx.

  • Just passing through. So much great advice here. I must try harder to get in with you guys. Maybe making a song would bring you round. Im getting there, slowly.
What pushed me to comment. Well done @marliess for inspiring a vid from @Bluepunk. So cool! So frightening!
Ive only read the comments so far but looking forward to listenning to all the high quality and highly inspiing stuff a bit later. Viva SOTMC,

Diaphanous. Pretty sure the vocal was recorded at 3am (summer of 1981) by a vocalist who was two or three minutes from nodding out and fine with that. May have been wearing sunglasses also. Richard Butler was in the next room, listening through the wall.

Here is my first submission to The Club. I have a goal to complete/share one track a month here, to get past the "never finishing anything" habit. All input appreciated!

    "Falling Up Stairs"
Born from a couple of "Discovers" and tweaks in Blocs Wave
Moved waves to Gadget for more work
Then to Auria Pro for more production and mixing
And finally to Audio Mastering for mastering
    Also used, among others:

    • DM1
    • Fabfilter Saturn
    • Tonestack

That's really well put together, a very good song, chops and changes nicely, hint of electroclash but distinctive vocal give it great identity. V impressed. Very nicely mixed indeed. Only complaint was the drums in the chorus, would want them louder, with more of a crack, even a breakbeat. Very good though. Looking forward to your next one

I have been writing tons for my composition teacher, but it's just writing, not finished work. I have finally completed a piece, and, glory be, will have one for next month as well. I published this in creations, but would love to get comments from the regulars here who didn't see it. My first dip of the toe into Electronica waters. I wrote this all in standard notation in Notion, including the percussion, exported it as midi, and imported it into Auria. Then applied sounds and filters. Some sounds from Fabfilter 1 and 2, some from Beathawk, and liberal amounts of various plugins, mostly Fabfilter, applied. I love how they work on the electronic sounds. I very much enjoyed this; not having to play my twisted creations certainly makes it easier to finish them. B) It's called Waltz of the Machines because it's metal and harsh, and in 3/4.

Really impressive, especially importing over to Auria. Can hear your style in there, just more electronica heavy. Great, stark, suitable as a soundtrack tune. Brilliant!

  • @marliess said:
My tune this month is about a girl starting out in a band, dreaming of success and giving a shout out to her musical heroes along the way. The drum loops are from sampletank: I really liked the patterns but not some of the individual sounds, so I pulled out the midi loops and re-mapped them back to sampletank kits via editing in cubasis. The factory in the artwork is an abandoned powerstation about 3km from where I work…I took some pics on my phone then added the ‘cartoon guitar girl’ from a creative commons photography site hosting street art. Intended as a fun little ditty that is a celebration of music

I genuinely like this tune, sort of garage rock tune, great hook and really well performed and mixed, I just wanted more oomph in the chorus. Rather than taking it up a notch it drops out a bit. Some growling guitar through that bit would make me happy. But really good tune and I think one of my favourites by your good self. Good stuff!
