@Redo1 For the depth of it I'm finding it pretty easy to use and started making my own patches almost straight away. But I can see his interfaces are pretty idiosyncratic and can put some people off.

I can see that, but I tend to gravitate towards almost wilfully obscure boffinry.

Gadget is great and all that but digging into this stuff really gets my juices going.

Every time I open up SoundScaper I am staggered by the depth of the weirdness on offer.

Praise be to the indie visionaries. Keep being true to yourselves and you can take my money happily.

  • Love his GUI'S but hey , just lucky for me at least. Will certainly be looking forward to video tutorials hopefully soon . Lots of fun just messing with it as is so far. Damned if I can load my own samples yet though. I am sure I'm missing tons but even at that it is vastly powerful and interesting to hear.

Perfect summation as regards the state of the play on this couch also...

  • Re the GUI. The one thing I would like to see is auto-save rather than having to click Set or anything. Minor annoyance. Otherwise it's all love.

  • Would anyone like to step in and tell me how to get the arp working on any oscillator?

  • Despite buying the other apps on release, and loving them, I've still no real idea what I'm doing half the time.

I'm not exactly sure - just diving in today with equal parts delight and frustration. Try hitting the active button (see pic).

That wasn't working until I went to the init preset and loaded one of the basses in. Working now though. Some interesting stuff to be done with long time range arpeggios and the glide on it.

  • Needs background audio desperately, and ahem, a manual?

    There is a manual. "?"
After reading you will say to yourself "what the hell?" and "how the hell?" a few less times.

You've seen the tiny question mark on the right hand side of the screen?

I found the samples a bit confusing at first since his other apps use only 3, one for each oscillator (that was a learning curve all of its own I seem to recall) - this app actually has 9 samples per patch. 3 oscillators, each made of 3 layers. When you get in the osc menu, tap on the sample name and you should find a user tab up there. I've not yet found Dropbox support, but could send over from AudioShare:

  • dropbox is in the files menu.
Another thing I've discovered which is useful from the manual is that to create a "User" folder you type in "User," (including the comma) at the beginning of a preset name and it creates the bank and places it in there. Whilst in the folder you can save as normal.

Ah, so it is! I'd have gotten there eventually ;)

Thanks man, I think tomorrow morning I'll go for a run then make a big pot of coffee, sit down and actually read through it. 60% sure I'll do that.

I just read the manual in full, and it is not very helpful. I have a basic grasp on the way most features work, but the manual was no help in that regard. I'm not disappointed in the sound of this one, but the UI is a step down from Soundscaper. It's not as clean or pretty from an aesthetic stance either.

I hope this gets a little/lot more care via updates like Soundscaper did. But at the same time, that felt like a much more 'finished' app from the get-go.

I'm not disappointed, I see the potential...it's just a matter of 'do I really want to take the time to master another app, or do I want to make some tunes?' I'm personally at a point where my answer is probably no.

Knowing the history of Igor's development of his apps, I'd bet dollars to donuts that he's already working on v1.1. He's a solid developer in that regard. He's also very receptive through social media to suggestions.

    You're not kidding.

Loving the sounds this makes. Unfortunately, it is resisting my attempts to include some of my own.

Mr Haq, it's time for you to attack this app, and show us all - well some of us. - where we're going wrong.

  • The fun begins if i use my own samples.
It's a nice little mad sound labor.

If both Active and Main are turned on, you need to hit the Start button in the upper right hand corner of the main screen to turn on the arp. "Active" activates the arpeggiator. "Main" activates that handy switch on the main page to flip the arp on and off in mid-performance.

  • Thanks for the main tip!

I lied, I spent an hour yesterday learning this, and there's some real genius to be had with the arps. Haven't gotten to loading my samples, but some of the included ones are fantastic (lookin at you, Elka).

The best I can describe it is that is the Soviet version of Layr. And I much prefer it, despite the UI.

Is there any point in having both? I don't have either, but to be honest I had a pretty good synthscape going this morning with Nave, Mitosynth and Addictive powered by AUM. I like the 70's Gong preset on this one though.

It makes sense to have both since synthscaper is samplebased

  • I don't have Layr yet but I was thinking the same thing. I think it'll be easier and quicker to make a wider range of sounds with this if you have access to some good samples and also you need less knowledge of synthesis. Even though I still want Layr the technique in Synthscaper works better for me to build layers.

Background audio is in settings. The settings page is called "Sets" which is a bit misleading tbh.

Thanks , worked great and I managed to load in a rhythmic wave file on three layers of one oscillator and that really brought my patch to life! Maybe just me but this is way more fun than Layrfor some reason. The more I use it myself and the more tips I pick up here on the forum, the better this gets. I am extremely pleased with my purchase

Hmmm. Definitely tempted by this one, particularly with the intro price. Throwing samples into the mix edges it towards Absynth territory. Would love to hear more examples though, it's all a bit 'strings' at the moment.

  • Stringy at first until I started messing around with samples, then the top came right off! Like I said previously , rhythm samples sure spice it up.

When you do, please let us know how it goes. I've been trying to my samples to show up, and have them imported into the app. But getting any sound out that bears any resemblance to those damp,EE is not so easy. I find the app fascinating, but far from intuitive.

Glad you're in business :) Yes, rhythmic patches! Will have a tinker in a bit but first I must catch up on some reading

  • Bought synthscaper today and must admit its a great sampler synth. Just started using it for a few hours and its capable of creating very intresting soundscapes. A very big plus for the fact it supports auto detection and tuning for your imported samples. Gonna use it for a long time and drift away in space.
