This is a very expressive "flute". Probably one of the most realistic musical instrument on iOS. In my opinion better than Thumbjam. AU works very well and a lot can be done should you want to add some fx on parallel instances. Worth the money spent and wish the dev a lot of (commercial) success in order to have more instruments like this one in the future
Good to hear. Have to be honest (consider it market research), if this has been 4.99 or maybe 5.99 I probably would have just bought it. For whatever reason at ten bucks I got past that initial 'buy NEW buy' feeling and am guessing I probably won't....
Yesterday I said"sold" yet I didn't buy not because of the price but because I thought about whether I really needed it and the Elven fairy dust spell kind of waned.
well, if the dev was an unknown guy I would also probably not have bought this app at this price. But this guy has developped sensual sax. If a wine expert you know tells you to "buy this Bordeaux, haut-Medoc 2007", you will probably do it, even if you already have too much bottles in your cellar...
I am NOT drinking any fucking Bordeaux!
...too obscure at this point?
Compared to Komplete/Kontakt desktop prices, this is pretty hefty for just one instrument.
What?!
You can never have too many bottles in your cellar.
I think the sax was very gimmicky. Not because of the theme, but because you couldn't crank the sex knob without having to reset the reverb and delay. When will developers learn I don't want inferior on-board effects (I know I can't be the only one). It's a decent sounding one-trick pony. At this point though, I think a Mellotron is the best bet for a 'fake' sax.
And I'm not opposed to flutes per se, but I certainly don't feel like I need one.
I hear you. Wasn't complaining about the price really, good luck to them, their choice etc., just giving a little feedback. I figure I am one of the canaries in the 'but he buys almost everything' coalmine and all etc.
You're not the only one; I agree with you about the on-board effects.
That's what I thought - if The Boss isn't buying, it's a bad omen for sales...
I almost did, but instead put it into my wish list. It sounds lovely, but a tenner for one instrument, when Sensual Sax was about half this price... maybe, maybe not.
I recently forked out almost double the cost of this flute for a Sample Tank pack, but that contained over 50 variations and loads of ready mades. Kind of makes Embertone look like blue meanies.
It's pricey, even compared to desktop libraries - and those will be sampled at higher quality.
I'm sure it's lovely but it's pushing it for app pricing, though prices seem to be hiking up across the board recently.
wow there sensual sax app is ridiculously just like there kontakt app

We appreciate the feedback, everyone! I'm so glad there's a place like this on the web so that we can to engage with iOS musicians
I want to comment on the pricing. While sensual sax is a great, fun instrument, there's also a novelty element to it. We were aiming at serious AND casual users. In the iOS environment, we see Jubal Flute as a different beast... a great sounding instrument, a useful and expressive professional tool.
Also, this is the price point more likely to sustain us so that we can continue making more great VIs for iOS. Developing these tools for iOS is intense... so much more challenging than Kontakt, and staying on top of bugs and updates is a big priority. We think these instruments can give users new levels of musical expression on iOS, and we are excited and motivated to keep on making more
I hope that helps explain our thought process with the pricing. Thanks!
Alex
Thanks for the explanation, Alex. Could you tell us what other Pro level instruments are in the pipeline for IOS?
My wine doesn't stick around long enough to warrant a cellar.
It is a high-quality really good sounding app, completely fair, I think the 10 Swiss francs. The app is really worth it and I am super happy with it and look forward to new things by Embertone.
BTW the Sax is also great.
Yes, although there are still bargains to be had. Now looking at the latest DAW, Orsilus, which is very keenly priced considering what it offers.
As for Jubal Flute, I like that the developer responded so quickly, to me and this forum, giving the best possible reason for the price point; that being what he thinks can sustain development.
Hi Alex, thanks for the great instruments. I would like to work with you to make them more reliable in GarageBand. (They frequently crash/go silent during reloading of a session)
Listened to the Kontakt version demos earlier, and it sounds really good. Very new-age-Glastonbury-crystal-shop. Very professional.
Personally I can't justify paying a tenner for one sampled instrument without any additional features - iFretless are a tenner also, but come with a range of instruments and custom playing surface and ThumbJam is full of good sounds and an excellent custom UI. And then you see mega apps such as KRFT at under a fiver.
I guess if you're an iOS musician after this particular instrument though it's a done deal.
I wish him all the best, but this level of sampled instrument pricing just pushes me back to the desktop, particularly when I can import desktop samples into the iPad via BM3.
If I was ever going to release a track with sampled/MIDI flute in it, I'd snap this up on an instant. Not a second thought.
This is the quandary, Oscar. The sound is lovely, and I have an idea straight away for how I would use it.
Whether I'd use it again, is another question. No one wants to do the same trick twice.
It's also hard to argue when a developer explains that this is the price point he considers sustainable.
Maybe just me not having the ears of a trained pro, but I thought Sensual Sax sounded brilliant. Yet the developers apparently regard it as a lesser product, whereas this flute is considered a professional level app.
Even one use in a single serious track would be worthwhile. Much cheaper than hiring a flautist (and writable off against tax).
For casual use.. yeah absolutely. I definitely want it but not going to pick it up until I actually need it to finish a track.
Thanks for commenting! Is there any difference between the desktop version and the iOS version? The iOS version seems to be about half the size of the desktop version.
This IS absolutely PRO!I do a lot of baroque music (baroque lute and baroque guitar) and this instrument is a treasure for this kind of music.I just have to learn to use the modwheel to make it sound even more "human".
For my needs a flute is not just a flute. You might listen watch on youtube: "I Liguriani - La bella noeva".The sound
of the flute is exactly what you get with this app.OUTSTANDING.
@embertone Thank you so much for this!!!
@embertone any plans for Trumpet? (cash at hand)
I'm really waiting for this one so badly I keep a reserve for it.
Yeah, sax is one of those instruments that is very expressive and used everywhere so it better be brilliant or it is not considered pro. Now a wooden flute, though nice sounding, is not as useful or valued for commercial song production IMO. This could easily have been one of the sounds provided for free with Thumbjam. If I can play this with an EWI, then I am in, but it would have to respond to aftertouch.
Sensual Sax is so good, that I was able to 'play' a sax break which sounded convincing to professional musicians. This, without having much of an idea as to the technicalities. I just dabbled until it sounded great to me.
I also agree with you that Sax is much more useable across a variety of styles. But this flute - beautiful as it sounds - is more specialised and therefore limited. While I respect the developer's assertion that the price point is what he considers sustainable, I'd instant buy the app if it was a fiver. That little bit more makes me hesitate.
