    Hey All,

We've just updated Groovebox to add support for MIDI In and Chromatic modes. You can now use your external USB or bluetooth hardware Drumpads and Keyboards to play the instruments inside Groovebox for iPhone and iPad. We've also updated other areas of the app including the Pattern view and Scale modes to support chromatic modes.

To celebrate, we met up with UK artist Slugabed, and made a short video.

  • Yay!........ :)

  • Well...
    There goes Saturday.

  • Wait... looks like bluetooth midi only @AmpifyxNovation

  • Good work, chaps. Pause for a beer, then onward with Midi out and Scene Mode?

  • Updated my App Store review. <3

    Love this update!!!

  • I thought same thing but it might be waiting for a USB connection.

  • Nah i got it working with Soundprism. Only problem is it doesn't seem to accept velocity from other apps. Either zero or full volume but nothing in between. THATS A BUMMER

Scene mode of whatever flavor and preset saving remain my two central hopes/asks, but looking forward to seeing how this new midi bosh works.

  • Anybody found the "fine tune volume for notes" in the pattern editor? Cause all I see is the same loud, soft, etc in a new location

    This is great! Thank you.

I notice in the piano roll the grab area at the end of notes has also been extended, so I no longer move/delete notes when I try to lengthen them.

The little dots on the chromatic keyboard to indicate scale notes are a nice touch too.

  • Just had Navichord send out Midi to Poly8 in realtime with Link enabled wow!!!! Navichord was playing the chord progression sounded sweet!!

Can't wait to try ChordUp for strumming Poly 8 :o :D

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • That means it's muted. Go to the top and swipe it on. :)

  • OK. I can confirm that it works, midi in from USB controller and from other apps (Xynthesizr).

Press and hold a note in the editor..then wait and see what happens ;)

The MIDI is zero setup other than plugging in, that is why you cannot see any options for MIDI in the app apart from the bluetooth MIDI Devices, as these need to be managed when connected, as in other bluetooth midi enabled apps.
to send MIDI to Groovebox from an app, just select it as the output for the MIDI in the app you are sending from.>

  • I already spend most of my time in this app these days.....
with the recent packs, which have all been excellent, and this new MIDI In and chromatic mode, this is really starting to show the quality of those modules.

Thanks @AmpifyxNovation for your continued and focused efforts to make mobile music making as productive and rewarding as it is with your apps...either using just an iPhone/iPad or coupled with some Novation hardware this is a real powerhouse that is simple to use.

    Many congrats :)

Ahh, I figured it would only be Note In. Doesn't look like you can assign seperate channels to instruments.

I guess now 'Midi' is checked off/added to the feature list and there will be no midi out or 'cc in' for synth parameters.

I wish I didn't bother getting any IAP for this.

Thank you. Why is it not accepting velocity from other apps besides zero or full @AmpifyxNovation? What is the point of having midi in if I still have to adjust velocity on a grid?

Don't give up quite so quickly.....for a company that makes some of the best MIDI controllers available, it is very hard to imagine that multichannel and CC's won't be coming.

I hope so, but given how Blocs features were seemingly halted or abandoned I am not so sure it will happen for Groovebox.

  • I never would have thought I would like this app as much as I do . Not sure I can say why other than it just works well and fairly intuitively. Loving that it is already getting great updates nd new sound packs both. Great work on this app and will definitely recommend to others.

It is picking up velocity fine for me from ModStep.

How about Scene Mode and Midi out first... then pause for a beer?

    Congrats..
