  • Digging further into this great app.
Are there plans to allow midi input for each chord step?

    • that would make the chord steps and composition much more immediate!

Ok, i'll have more of a play with the options. Are you saying in theory though Link mode isn't really supposed to go hand in hand with actions? Actions are more supposed to be played out independently of the song modes?

Because I always had probability for the action set on 100% but this still didn't change the looping action for the RND sequence earlier.

Anyway having a lot of fun with it so far and I've only scratched the surface :)

At the moment loop type Rnd does not trigger a loop therefore never triggers loop actions. Sounds like I need a version of Red that triggers a loop when it touches the start or end say.

Yep, that would be great :)

This would probably be more useful than a loop being triggered when a start or end note is randomly selected (although that could be cool in some cases too; if you set that start or end to a pivot tone/chord that you then resolve to with your next part/sequence...).
However, if you're using step time values, this step count method could also be hard to predict timing-wise as you could be counting a bunch of short or long notes.

I would also suggest having a random loop triggered as some multiple of Ableton Link phase value, so the randomness would happen for some musically relevant period of time.

if your into counting sequence lengths I do that for Poly mode to keep multiple sequencer overall time matching. But use I could use Link's timeline count of bars & beats.

You can record chords now - The record button allows you to input single notes or chords.
Its also possible to 'play' the chords (audition button in that panel) whilst your sequence is playing! This works with the audition button on the main screen too.

    Amazing!
    So many hidden gems !
I think you are going to need many videos to show off the potential.

Is there a limit to how many notes in a chord?

  • Why does the swing not seem to work in quantum? I set the swing to the same setting as I do in midisequencer and get no swing

  • Wow. Just getting started here and it’s true what they say, fence-sitters. This is special stuff!

@midiSequencer Thanks for all the hard work, it shows. I’ll make another shallow request for that basic skin there was talk of downstream... I can only speak for myself, but I was put off by the look (very glad that beckoning functionality tipped the scales). If there’s any leeway / influence to be had, I find that basic, clean lines go a long way - something like DRC might get a few folks hot under the collar. Vertical control of dials would be great too!

128 - only that many midi note numbers you can have. Not sure any more than about 7 useful though.
Many small instructional & audio session ones (like my 3x zeeon ones) videos planned - I'm in bug fixing mode at the moment looking to release the first patch today (to enable ios9.3 - although AB3 needs 10.2!)

indeed it doesn't seem to - will fix that for todays patch.

thx - I realise a lot of people are put off by the gfx and its difficult to read text on phones - I sort of kept midiSequencer's retro feel but its much harder to do this than modern gfx - so yes a crisp clean gui is in the works - I'm working with @syrupcore on that (he was also a beta tester).

safe to say its high on the priority list.

I've got that request for different methods to interact with rotary controls too. At the moment its all pointing at where you have your finger, so easy enough to change, just have to do it for all controls and give you all an option to pick which method.

  • Amazing!!! Thanks man! I’m so glad I got in on the special intro price! Although I feel kind of guilty after seeing all the special work that’s gone into this amazing app!

  • Earlier I reported a problem/bug with unresponsive velocity in the mixer, but it turns out it was only my synth (Magellan) not responding to velocity (quite unusual) before activating a velocity sensitive button. Sorry about that.

Quantum is already great, and the future looks bright. Looking forward to the coming updates!

all apps have their problems - Sunrizer still is missing an octave in its midi register

often with velocity you have to tweak the patches though..

Ok, thx for confirmation. When can we expect to see the patch release in the store?

  • thx for the extra reviews - its great when people support your app but without it its hard for new people to see music apps due to the low volumes - Apple charts rely on ratings too.

All your great music apps need support, especially many of us indie developers who don't have corporate budgets to spend on marketing - and there are some great apps out there. I feel (certainly once IOS11 is ironed out) there are great times ahead for music composing on IOS devices.

Didn't quite make it yesterday but planning to today. Will post when submitted. Apple seem really quick at the moment (so may only take 12 hours!).

I've also decided to start masterclass video sessions where I create something like my 3xZeeon's demo & then explain it. I'm working on the next one which is using the mixer to balance a simple 4 part sequence (each part is one note). Using the mixer you can put emphasis on individual notes.

  • Not having luck getting step recording happening. Any tips?

You need a combination of things.
    a) Midi input button on (bottom of screen)
    b) Devices/Inputs - activate an input device
    c) click Record button (next to midi Output) & choose "Record as..."
    d) you might want to set auto-advance on this button too - otherwise it records on one step.

The Midi Input button has an led that lights up when you get input.
Make sure you are on note display to start with
The current faders should then move...

So, while just scratched the surface from Quantum i ask me now if i can use this as arp too (since there is another thread about arps....which i love to use everywhere).
I mean could i just enter transpose semi-tone values like +1, -2 etc. instead of fixed midi notes and play the arps/sequences live rather then let the sequencer play. So i could combine sequences with live playing....which i love too like i said already :) F.e. it´s great to sustain a sequence and then change chords/notes/values on the fly.
    Maybe it´s already possible?

yes - setup Quantum's notes to arpeggiate (or use a single step chord as strum say or even a midi fx echo) - press play and the arpeggio starts.

Whilst playing, midi note input transposes the sequences - or you could use another sequence to drive it (set it as Value only & enable it on the main sequence under step transpose - the 5 buttons on the left).

Thank´s...i will try that. One question....does that works also without having to press and let the sequencer play. I mean that it just will play when i input midi and stops if i don´t input midi?
    It´s a damn great app indeed ;)
