TC-11 Modular synthesizer on sale OCT. 3rd!!!

Hell finally froze over and TC-11 is going on sale this Thursday (tomorrow), October 3rd.

http://www.bitshapesoftware.com/instruments/tc-11/

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tc-11/id488577050?mt=8

Who has it? What do you think about it? How does it compare to other modular synth apps?

I've had my eye on this for awhile but got distracted by other shiny things and sort of forgot about it.

  • It's all about the programmable touch interface. The synth is outstanding too. Not sure why this standout app remains under the radar. I've heard a lot of folks beg for MIDI implementation, but honestly, they synth itself is quite powerful and the patch design is well-implemented. I don't know what the markdown is, but you should get it.

I'd been waiting forever for a sale, but since TC-Data is in development I'll save up for that instead. Unless I misunderstood and TC-Data is an update/iAP for TC-11?

  • That's unclear. I'd be pretty bummed if they made it a separate purchase instead of an update, but let's see what it IS first... it's been a while since we heard anything.

  • IDK.....I feel like I got burned on Audulus (not Audulus' fault BTW)... I just don't have the time to program Modulars....It would have to have some pretty stellar patches and a really good price to entice me. I must be spoiled, because I've been passing a lot of things up lately. :-)

  • it's not bad, although a bit abstract to program, especially when there is no external input option (touch-control only). So it's rather a preset synth, or for experts. The performance however can be very interesting.

  • It's a regular subtractive synth. Anyone who's into synthesis should be able to wrap their heads around the patch design. If not, it's time to learn. Or consider some soundfont-based app! :p

  • If it's around the $20-15 range, hopefully on the low end, I might have a hard time not getting it. I always wanted it, but never took the plunge due to the price. It just looks like so much fun to play.

  • From what I know TC-Data will be a virtual midi controller using the same intuitive controls that TC-11 features. I'm assuming it will only be truly useful when controlling an app or synth that allows per-voice control.

  • Is it only usable in portrait mode?

Just a reminder of what FRiberio did with it..

    FRibeiro August 3 +1 -1

Here's something "melodic" I wrote with it: :)

Yea its awesome and similar to most synths program wise, laid out in an easy to understand "chain", a great sequencer that's a little different than most, and one of the best touch interfaces out there to play with as well as a ton of I guess call them modulation options for all parameters. Things like length from first touch and a boatload of others.

@crabman - no it can be used in landscape mode

    "It's a regular subtractive synth"

that is true, and not difficult to program in theory. But it is an additional abstraction layer if you make the patch before listening to the result, while with other synths you can immediately hear what you're doing. On the other hand you have a responsive touch surface to improvise and for spontaneity.

  • For me it's one of the very few apps (maybe the only) that feels like it transforms the iPad into an actual instrument, rather than an iPad running an app. Lots of fun for me, but then I love abstract, strange sounds. Not that that's all it's capable of, as the above video demonstrates, but that's what I mostly use it for.

I'm told (by Kevin Schlei, the app creator himself) that MIDI is on the cards for a future update too. I would saying if you've been wanting to pick it up but the price is all that's stopping you, grab it with the price drop.

  • I recently swore up and down that I would not buy another synth for a long time to come....and now this. Sigh. I've been eyeing this app forever, but the price held me back. I already have about 20 synths and several great ones, like WaveGenerator, that get no love from me.

  • Down to $7.99!!!!

  • $7.99?! Woah! Nobody has any excuse now :P

  • $29.99 here still in the est.

@protomike I'm EST also but I saw the price drop first on AppZapp which sometimes shows them a few hours before they hit but I honestly can't believe they dropped that low, for those who don't have it, it's an easy choice at this price!

  • OK, now that I've bought TC-11 for $7.99 I definitely WON'T buy another synth for a long time. I lasted about ten seconds once I saw the price in the app store. I had to push the button.

  • let us know what you think of it!

  • TC-Data will be a separate app, just confirmed by Kevin on twitter.

@JMSexton I just saw it go to $7.99, and yeah you are right appzapp will show things on sale before they really do go on sale. I'll have to pick up an itunes gift card on my way to work tomorrow morning. Can't wait to give this a spin.

  • 'Tis an object of beauty. Should have bought it ages ago but at this price it brings Joy to my skinflint heart.

  • @HelixPhoenix - is the price drop due to the release of the new app or an update to TC-11 or none of the above? (Do you know)

  • Bought! I think I'm gonna like this one, it is a bit different to say the least.

But, Bit Shape if you're reading this, the whole app is localized to Swedish, and most things doesn't make any sense. It's like it's been automatically translated by Google or something? Please add a setting to switch it all back to English (or actually just remove the Swedish localization completely since it doesn't make sense, probably just keep it for countries that doesn't speak English, like Russia, some Asian countries etc).

  • @ChrisG mine was never like that?

  • $7.99 that's crazy. I paid full price a long time ago, and never regretted it. Only wishing they would of updated more.

  • @JMSexton but you're from the US tho? I'm in Sweden so it defaults to the Swedish language, although via some automatic translation thing that doesn't make much sense. :/

  • I also paid full price for this a long time ago..never reviewed this or made a demo for it..Its one of the most enjoyable apps to play just with its presets and you can get some more presets online..
