... just looked at the DOTEC-AUDIO plugin lineup and I am a bit underwhelmed :/ , was hoping for some stutter/reverse/glitchy stuff.

The lineup doesn't look like anything that is suited to iOS, maybe they are working on new stuff for Korg?

I hope that's a granular synth sample glitcher upper kinda Gadget mash-up with potatoes and filled with automation for loop points, start/end points, pitch etc. Something like that.

I do hope some better pictures of the sampler gadget will pop up soon...

My guess is it will have a filter, one effect, loop on/off, reverse on/off and modulation of start/end point.
Similar to what can be done on the Volca Sample but with polyphony.

  • No gadget mode for emacs yet?

  • Totally awesome would be if we can use any 'Gadget Track' as source for the 'Sampler Gadget'.
Needless to say I will be keeping some Appstore-credits ready when this drops, hopefully before christmas :)

  • Korg Gadget Sampler is what it sorely needs to take it to the next level

  • Music making is eating up all my time as it is, so I don't own any of the new VG systems. How much time do gamers have to be doing both if they take up music making too?

I think the DS-10 thing was cool because that software wasn't that deep and seemed geared toward sporadic dabbling. I know some people took it to extremes and produced some amazing tracks on DS-10, but those were rare compared to people who invest a ton of time playing games. Gadget seems a little too deep for gamers to get into en-masse, as they kinda already found their thing playing games. On the flipside, I don't want to invest all that money on a game system just to use Gadget with a control pad or whatever. Ds was a cheap system and I already owned one for lite gaming, so DS-10 was a insta-buy. But I don't know if this will lure people in as easily because the time and money investment is much greater for this newer, more powerful stuff.

But whatever, good for Korg and Nintendo. Based on the DS-10, I would think this is going to be pretty good if you have a Switch and like making music. I could barely afford my iPad and keeping up with all the great music apps is also expensive for me, so no Switch in the near future for me. Not that I wouldn't like one, they actually look pretty cool. But I am trying to collect all Brambos apps, the expensive Korg standalone stuff, and maybe Animoog and Model-15 with all those expansion packs later. I could probably get all of that just for the price of a Switch, too.

I wish at the very least Korg would combine Recife and Bilbao. I like some of the functions in Recife like Note Repeat/Speed for glitch stuff but Bilbao doesn't have them. Like once a user buys Bilbao, allow them to upload their own samples into Recife. It's impressive how few features there are in Bilbao and even Recife compared to other sampler apps out there. Or maybe I need to buy Abu Dhabi. Is that the missing link for glitchy music in Gadget?

Edit: just bought Abu Dhabi. That was the solution. Fun gadget for glitch.

  • Korg first should do a real multi-touch app :#

What? No COBOL version yet? :o

Still living off the Y2K contract bounty?

  • Yeaaaaaah, a new version would be great soon!
Hopefully they will implement a "Clip Launch"-function (like in Ableton Live the clips) as requested by me several months ago on their website:

With the addition to be able to record the content from the launched clips to a linear time-line for further editing.
(This is something that works very well in Garageband with it's Live Loops feature).

  • This is all very exciting stuff

I'm really enjoying using Gadget for getting down my ideas at the moment - great to be able to start on iPad or iPhone and then continue on my mac later. A proper keyboard sampler sure would be nice! And a better form of audio editing would be good - it's very limited at the moment.

  • I wish they would add a Kaos controller in app. You could switch to it from the keyboard view and use on any gadget to record automation on gadgets and FX. Regular note input too, of couse, but maybe transposing or transforming sequences could be awesome.

  • Lisbon - Polyphonic Sci-Fi Synthesizer
    Vancouver - ...ring Melody Sampler

  • Removes monocle; takes pinch of snuff; grips leather arms of the club chair; smiles serenely.

I have been expecting Korg to release the kaoss pad 3 as an app for a long time. I think the kaoss pads were probably the first touchscreen interfaces for musicians. Had one for a while and some of the effects, especially combined ones pitch+delay etc were great fun to use.

Turnado has more power and several apps exist that are similar in use, but I would like to have the kp3 on an iPad. It would be amazing to have it available as an insert effect within Gadget with automation recording!

The pictures shows that Detune is involved and since they did the DS-10 for DS and the M01D (Korg M1 clone) for 3DS it's no surprise they're working on something for the Switch.

It also probably means that no Korg resources are being taken away from iOS or other platforms to make this.

And the Switch has been selling like hotcakes since it was released last Spring.

  • I have no idea what any of this really means, but am half awake because The Kid already has one of these infernal machines and thus Mrs. Goodyear will not hold the investment against my account etc.

  • Vancouver = Layering Melody Sampler

Is that a really good guess, or official type news?

    Now that's useful!

  • The more Gadgets the better. Just hope that the updates for iOS and Mac come out simultaneously instead of at separate times from now on.

  • iYM2151 would be perfect as a 'Gadget', it's made by Detune :)
