When import a GarageBand session into Logic Pro X it's all standard Midi CC's...
In that case it should be working. They could filter the controls that are special like the articulation. If they wanted to
I think that will come once/if Apple decides to add controller/articulation/automation editing to GarageBand.
(I've sent feedback to them numerous times without any kind of response).
Could some of the sequencers be directly integrated into future version of Ruismaker AU?
Yes, GB is really pretty good! Check out the videos of iPhoneDo like this one!
He re-creates theme tunes but also it is a great way to see what GB can do!
Agreed and this also shows recording touch-automation (and that makes me miss editing them even more hehe).
@brambos You can take a track recorded in Phasemaker and drag it into (or copy it into) any AU track like Zeeon and the Zeeon patch plays the MIDI recorded with Phasemaker.
You just can't drag it into the Garageband instruments (which have articulation data) or the IAA instruments (which come in as audio).
I don't understand what you mean by "silently playing in their own channel." I hear them fine, can edit their MIDI and when I'm done I output the song or the separate tracks as audio.
Okay, can we talk about the "Optimizing Performance" thing that takes forever? Is there something I can do to prevent or shorten that process? I'm on the 12.9" iPad Pro 2017, so I would hope that my device is powerful enough to handle a song in GarageBand
Still it doesn't have 'infinite' CPU resources.
It would be helpful to know what your session looks like, how many and what plug-ins are used?
I find reverbs trigger it more than anything else. Also sometimes during playback if you open a window the animation will fool GB into thinking it’s short on resources. It will suddenly panic and optimize. I’m hoping they eventually make the optimization an optional setting.

Yes, 'normal' Audio Units are not the issue. We're talking about MIDI AU plugins, which do not generate sound but MIDI data. Typically you'd like to send that MIDI data to another synth/instrument which makes sound, but in GB you can not (yet) do that. For now, only AUM supports that - but it's still really early days.

I Want to try making silent patterns anyway in GB then dragging the MIDI to a random synth track
I've got about 12 tracks. I've also got a couple AUs loaded, which I think might be causing some issues. When I open my project up it asks me if I want to reload the AU or disable them. When I click disable it doesn't need to do any optimization
Definitely sounds like GarageBand wants to pre-render the tracks for the AUv3's to save some CPU and keep the device cooler and make the battery last longer.
I wish there was a manual option to manually freeze a 'section/midi-region' making it easier to copy them as audio to the sampler. This 'render' could be done auto-magically when dragging a midi-event to a sampler/audio-track.
On my Air 2 I've sometimes gotten the 'Optimising Performance' when using iSem( and lately Model 15.
The other synths(Zeeon, Poison-202, Wolfgangs PPG apps, IceGear apps and stuff from Bram and Virsyn etc.) seem to be a bit friendlier on the CPU.
The render can take a long time depending on the length of the section.
(many smaller sections seem to render faster than one long?!).
I think once the render is done it will not be 're-done' unless there are changes to the midi-notes or instrument parameters but that's just a guess...
That being the case, another possibility is Anywhereband.
Great time spent together playing with GB’s voice effects. Not sure if I want to encourage too much of this before I’ll have to wait until bedtime to get my iPad back. Also all that ‘Steve Jobs’ kids didn’t get to play with tablets’ talk... I guess we’re not in California
So I was looking around for a midi sequencer for the iPhone tonight and GarageBand came to mind. GarageBand on the iPhone sequences AUs beautifully. Scratched out 32 bars in about 20 minutes and airdropped the GarageBand project file to the iPad. Read the file seamlessly including the AUs. I’m finding being forced to work in sections on the iPhone efficient and productive.
Right now the only app that supports midi out AUs is AUM. @brambos has an upcoming sequencer AU pack called Odessa.
Yep, GB just finally clicked for me too, now I’m hooked. It’s giving me that Ableton Live style arrangement workflow that I love. Booom!
Cool! Just in case.... Keep in mind that sections aren’t mandatory. You can make the project as many bars as you’d like before hand and then record to the time line In a more traditional way. It took me too long to realize this was possible
Thanks for that. Do you know how to turn sections off after the fact? The one down side is when they're on you can't really play through the whole song. It would be nice if there was a way to toggle them off and on.
I’m not sure if you can turn them off, but you should be able to see them all and play through them in the timeline by selecting “All Sections”

Thanks @realdavidai . That "+" feels a little like an easter egg. But I will be tapping it often now. :-)
Ha that’s a good word for it
Another neat GarageBand trick is to create an empty sampler instrument track.
Go back to the sequencer and bring up the floating Files.app and drag any sample to the sampler-track and boom, you've got a sampler-instrument. It even imports the loop-settings from the *.wav file
(I hope we'll see something similar in a future Cubasis update @LFS ).
Custom Ringtones with GarageBand(No iTunes needed).
https://9to5mac.com/2017/11/10/iphone-ipad-custom-ringtones-make-ringtone-garageband/
And you can of course do your own compositions and export them as ring tones.
I did that with the GB built in hard rock guitar. Our secretary always complains about my ring tone :-)
Yepp, and it's quite fun too hehe...
I recall before one needed to use iTunes on the computer to transfer the .m4r files back to the Phone
I'm happy the iTunes ties are being slowly cut...
This is the exact reason I'm back to GB. Great iPhone experience has me productive on the go!
Ooo nice
