  • Loving this app since the update. Aside from the numerous node sequencer charms, the MIDI in triggers for the emitters give endless round robin and random options. AUv3 or Audiobus support would certainly make things easier to wrangle.

    Questions for @sebastianarnold:
--any plans for universal/iPhone support? Nothing more convenient for live use than the device in my pocket. Yes the UI would be small but double tap to zoom in and out?
--have you thought about calculating tap tempo from the incoming triggers? Right now, there's no "natural" way to control the clock so, even though the MIDI-in triggers allow for a much more live performance, we are still locked to master tempo. I realize there are probably technical limitations but you seem to have thought through live playing pretty thoroughly based on your online videos.

Again, thanks for the update. Great combination of fun and utility.

  • Senode just updated with a virtual midi port. That’s much easier now to get midi from say AUM to senode for triggering or from other apps which don’t have an external midi out port. Nice :)

Yes, that totally makes sense. Now that MIDI bindings are done I will focus on Audiobus and Link support. This might change a lot of backend-related stuff, so I cannot tell you how long it will take to be ready for release.

Hm, I don't think that I will approach to shrink the UI for iphone support. All the controls densely interact with each other, and in so many places it doesn't make sense to leave something out. Even the keyboard is a vital element as it controls the notes assigned to each node. Maybe I will go ahead for a reduced Audio Unit sized GUI, though.

That's quite a nice idea, on the other hand it is maybe out of scope as soon as we have Link support. I tested Senode with Andrew's BeatSeeker (https://www.ableton.com/de/packs/beatseeker/) to match my drumming tempo and used Live to send TICK commands as 1/16ths to all emitters. That was enough we needed to play in sync to an acoustic drum kit for several hours....

    Best,
    Sebastian

  • @sebastianarnold I am really digging this app. Just wanted to to add my thumbs-up for audiobus support. Thanks for this app — and the video I saw was way cool. :#

Thanks for the thoughtful responses, especially the tip on beat seeker.

  • @sebastianarnold

    Guten Tag 🌞
I just bought your app. Just wanted to say that there’s support for you out here, and that you can slowly and meticulously work on Audiobus support for Senode in your workshop, with all the blessings of us users ;-)
Could be a nice Christmas gift :-)

  • Is there an equivalent to beat seeker on iOS? It works great on my laptop but I don't always have my laptop with me. Nonetheless, Senode is a great live performance tool.

Yeah I read on the Juce awards voting page that Senode AUv3 is coming "soon" which would be even better :)
    So hope that's true.

  • Senode BLack Friday Sale $6.99 from $9.99

This app had flown under the radar from me until now, looks pretty interesting but Im not sure what to think of it yet.
Sounds like its still being actively developed which is good, not sure how well it plays with other apps.

I mostly use it standalone. I love what it does and the concept, that said it rarely gets used.

  • I'm probably way in the minority here but this app is fantastic for live triggering sequences with the emitters. Nothing else like it on iOS.

Does it come out as music or some kind of non-repetitive morphing sequence?
Not that Im against the latter, could still be good if thats it.

Little bit of both actually. I have some emitters spawning chords and bass lines that are conventionally musical but not completely repetitive. I do use some deeply morphing sequences to keep things interesting.

  • I came across this video just now, which can make it clearer for those who wonder about it. Great little app this.

  • Ok that is pretty neat

  • Yeah that video is great at showing what's possible. Wish I had seen it before stumbling through the app figuring it out myself. I love the step through emitter function that he shows at about 5:20. I've gotten a bit tired of being on the grid with relentless sequencers perfectly timed. I set up a controller to play through chords and melodies--by having to play them myself I get that human feel to the performance that a grid sequencer cannot get. Hoping this evolves into an AUv3 midi instrument at some point; would be simply the coolest for live use.

Yeah this is ideal with the boppad, had fun trying that out. Must go and do it again sometime.

  • Just got a nice update with Ableton Link amongst some other things :)

  • Hi everyone,

thanks for all your responses so far, keep up the great feedback!

I just added Ableton Link integration to Senode. And there's a sale coming up soon that stays until 31.12. Happy holidays! https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/senode/id1298766877

    Best,

  • @sebastianarnold nice, glad to see Link update. Any chance you will consider Senode as an AU midi instrument?

    I currently see 7,99 Euro.
    Is this the sale price?

Cannot see any indication of a sale on the App Store page, so maybe it is yet coming?

AFAIK 7.99 is the original price, so sale not started yet.

  • I have owned this since it came out, and would love to understand why sometimes a midi receiver won’t show up at all in this app to send midi to, and other times it will. Elastic drums is one example of an app that should work fine but simply doesn’t for me, most of the time, and there are others as well. How can we get midi out from this app to be guaranteed to consistently identifiable by other apps?

Even using something like AUM it doesn’t show up?
I think in standalone apps, the order you open them sometimes matters. Or you might have to launch an app, close it, then launch it again. Weird inconsistencies between apps is not that unusual on iOS, it seems.

Oh, this issue was actually never reported to me. I never noticed problems with apps not showing up in the Senode MIDI Dialog. Elastic Drums works fine here in any starting order (iOS 12.1). Are you maybe running these apps in an AudioBus session or similar? Can you PM me with steps to reproduce the error?

Yes, this is already the sales price, down from EUR 10,99.

My next priority is AudioBus support. An extension as iOS AUv3 is also on my list, and maybe even AU/VST for Desktop. But don't expect these within the next few months, I have a PhD thesis to write.... ;-)

    Happy Holidays!
    Sebastian

  • VST for desktop - B)

  • @sebastianarnold thanks for the insights into roadmap. AB support will be very nice, especially with State saving. Senode is a fantastic live tool and being able to quickly recall a preset via a host would make it work perfectly in a live situation. And good luck on the thesis!
