How many faces can be activated on 1 device for face ID?

    Currently 1 face per device...

What if the device told me...."That´s not you"...."Yes, i am"...."No"....."Yes, i just look bad today"...."No...."

How many finger prints on the old style devices?

Well guess you still got the 4 or 6 digit code additionally.

I didn't even activate the finger print stuff.

  • Regarding compression the video/image quality of the new HEVC/HEIC encoders on the new iPhones produce lower quality video & images that the old tried and true MP4 & JPG combo on the same hardware...

  • I’m beginning to think all this interaction with these magical scrying mirrors may have some adverse effects after all
After much personal loss and sorrow over the past few years I thought I’d try ios music making to help me get back into the swing of music making. Unfortunately I’ve collected more things than I know what to do with and have a few unfinished songs on the back burners of my life. Think I’ll just cling to my Mini 2 and try to simplify things so I can get some work done and ignore the latest announcements...they cause too much personal and monetary angst.

This is peanuts compared to the many frustrations of hardware. I'd give up the home button just to not have to deal with all the MIDI, audio, and power cables for each hardware device. My studio used to look like the snake pit from Indiana Jones before I found the light that is iOS.

I've registered 4 fingers on my Air 2 (2 thumbs and 2 long-fingers) and have a pass-code on it as well...
(I mean i wan't it to recognise 'me' if I have the iPad on a desk or of I'm holding in hand as the Touch ID is quite sensitive to which angle the iPad is held).

I can see a day coming when I stop buying Apple products.

I already see the day when people have become so dependent on technology that they can't do sh*t without it :)
(That's why I keep my basic survival skills updated in case the technology fails, it's not a matter of _if_ it fails but _when_ it fails).

So true. In some years no one will play an instrument or keyboard or have to know anything about music theory.
Just hit a random button and everything get generated by an A.I. which reads your mood and know what you like.
A chip will include chemical reaction in your brain and everything sounds amazing....or so.
But maybe it will also innovate in a kind of new genre like virtual musicians which plays such apps like other real instruments when touch screen can morph their surface in any thing we want with real tactile feedback or at least with a trick to perfectly imitate it.
But music is for me a bit behind and even makes steps back of what we see in video.
4K OLED 75" and larger screen with whatever tech is the latest and greatest and in cinemas they put everything into it what we can imagine but the crowd still mainly listening to streamed compressed crap.
It´s like hearing music in 2D rather than 3D.
The future looks dumb and sounds dull :o

I would think Netflix, Youtube and the others are the video equivalent of compressed crap audio though. Wouldn't you need to watch stuff from disc or whatever to fully take advantage of the screen technology?

Not always. Netflix already has some 4K streaming. 4K videos on you-tube as well. It´s still early but damn, once you see such things there is no way back. That was my fault into the plug-in world. Some tools are just too good.
But as with everything you also need the right tools to enjoy this quality and this costs a bunch.
    It´s all G.A.S. but i´m addicted and a very audio/visual human :)
As long as i can afford some of these things i will enjoy it. I know it will be over rather sooner than later.

There is that bit of new information I was overlooking...4K. Din't consider the impact of that, was still thinking just about how everything is compressed these days. I could imagine the newest video games looking insane on some of the newest screens as well.

Yes. I just got in love with a new OLED TV i´m planning to buy.....not sure what the Mrs. will say.
But when i gone from the old TV to a new HD TV it was amazing and now with the latest tech it´s even more amazing, especially since i´m a video/audio junkie. It can be used as screen for my macbook and will look great with the PS4 as well.
The same is for me with audio. Vinyls and CD was fine, then those MP3 players was such a crap. Now it´s better again but still not as good as some of my old CD´s.
Now the same with audio production for me. I started with iPhone only and the Apple included headphones.
Then iPad and some better tools, then macbook pro and some high end headphones and better tools which was like going from SD to 4K.
Now iOS is at HD for me but still not 4K. But i´m willing to pay (too) much for things i love and not knowing how long i can enjoy them.
So, going for a beer now :p

Happy to do my bit to support innovative developers, buying apps, etc. But no more Apple hardware for me, due to previously discussed problems.

But Apple like to introduce dongles for things which works since decades.

  • Hopefully I will be able to buy a lightning dongle with a home button on the other end

The thing about this is: it makes no sense. A phone is a personal device so faceID is defendable.

But in most households the iPad is a device shared by the entire family. It sits on the couch and is picked up by anyone who needs to look up the name of that actor on IMDB. It ridiculous to have to train it with every family member...

I heard a rumor that Apple will come out with a prosthetic head on a stick that can be recognized by Face ID. That way anyone can pick up the head and unlock the device. ;)

Apples vision is apparently that every single human being has their own personal 'iDevice(s)' with no sharing == 100% security or something like that :D

Apples vision is to remove all plugs and hardware buttons from their devices. After the end of the headphone jack and home button, we'll see lighting cable removed (wireless charging is the way to go) and of course volume and on off buttons will also be gone before 2020

Wifi....one of many elephants in the room
Most don’t give it a second thought. According to a well respected Swedish neurobiologist the amount of dangerous emf, rf we including children especially get exposed to every day is of “ biblical proportions “
I have my main computer hooked up to ethernet grounded and it works great. I try to limit my family’s exposure to wifi etc....
Can’t wait for 5g to take effect beaming out microwaves
If anyone is concerned check out world wide cancer rates have gone significantly up
Apple wants us to bathe in this soup
    Rant over and out
Ps: it’s well known that Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were very strict with their children that they weren’t allowed ipads etc etc
    Makes one think

  • But some getting creative even with that theme :D

And then people would have to replace their covers, keyboards etc. and you'd have another segment complaining

Like they usually have to when they buy a new device anyway?

Edit - reading comprehension -> me

Well, the ipad has remained the same size for some time yea? And the pro 12.9 is on it's second iteration. Not sure about iphone 8 and 8+ compared to 7s. My point is, someone is always going to be unhappy when change happens. Judging by the demand for the iphone x, i think most people have accepted the no home button phone. They will probably do the same for the ipad

I was thinking more like all the whining when they ditched the jack stick

You mean people concerned about the loss of the headphone socket?

Yeah who needs sockets and buttons - what we need is a device the size of a postage stamp (used in analogue pre-digital communication), the thickness of a human hair, controlled with the power of the mind. Which will be obsolete a week later by a new one that exists only via the medium of mime.

I did read that but keep in mind you responded to my post initially. A post that simply stated i was happy with the change. So we're not allowed to be happy with change?

  • I really can't see a single thing that anyone has said in this thread that would make me miss the home button. If you can only have one person device, than that's a problem, but I would be mightily surprised if that was so. Everything else just sounds like fluff, guys. At least there was SOME reason for complaining about the headphone jack going. But this one? Sheesh.
