  • The cake will walk no more forever.

  • Always sad when music companies close down :(

  • Fuck. So sad

  • shocked, they put the customer service in daw manufacturing :(

  • What does this men for the newly revived zeta3 app? I was considering getting that one, but does this mean it is effectively dead for the future?

I would guess that does indeed mean it’s effectively dead. Lucky we got one last bug fix update before the shutters came down.

And the much panned momentum is presumably also dead

You have to feel sorry for anyone who ponied up the extra $200 last December for ‘lifetime’ updates to sonar though.

  • Thanks for getting Z3TA updated, that was really awesome and grateful for all the music memories.

  • wait, really? the momentum platform is gone too? yikes.

One more reason why Gibson is the worst music company on the planet. Although not quite as bad as illegally smuggling endangered wood into the US that they knew had been poached from a national park in Madagascar. Or doing shady deals with a dictator to get wood from Fiji. Or putting Made in USA stickers on Japanese imports. Yes, Gibson has done those things.

  • Awww ... my first DAW was Guitar Tracks Pro, which I think I originally got as a demo version for free with an FX processor back in the previous century.

  • Amazingly they're still selling products via their store.

  • I remember when I was used with Cakewalk 9 and my DB50XG with my soundblaster AWE32... bye bye.

    This!
Gibson, what has become of thee?
Yes, even Behringer does what Behringer does well. The same can not be said for the once great Gibson.

That's it! I'm burning my 1957 Goldtop Les Paul in protest! Not really, and I wouldn't dare if I actually owned one. But I might sell it and buy a house. :)

"this decision was made in order to align with the company’s acquisition strategy"

  • Surprised to see Gibson owned them. And found this
    https://www.cakewalk.com/Press/Release/1195/Gibson-Brands-Announces-Intention-to-Acquire-Cakewalk-Inc

Worth a read but this jumped out.....

Gibson has a portfolio of over 100 well-recognized brand names starting with the number one guitar brand, Gibson. Other brands include: Epiphone, Dobro, Valley Arts, Kramer, Steinberger, Tobias, Slingerland, Maestro, Baldwin, Hamilton, Chickering and Wurlitzer. Audio brands include: KRK Systems, TASCAM, Cerwin-Vega!, Stanton, Onkyo, Integra, TEAC, TASCAM Professional Software, and Esoteric.

    Who knew?

The press release is so enthusiastic about the acquisition - and 4 years later the fact that music software just doesn't generate enough profits puts it first under the CFO's axe. I hope they all got a decent settlement - and perhaps, NCAs allowing, maybe they move on to create something new.....

  • Must be hard to compete with Apple giving logic away for £200.

Their scumbag CEO would probably burn it for you as part of some harebrained business strategy.

  • Very sad news :( I have been a long time Cakewalk user and my Platinum lifetime updates are now effectively worthless.

    Who knew?

Gibson is very successful at acquiring solid brands and destroying their reputations by cutting quality control down to near zero. Orville would be spinning in his grave if he knew.

  • It is ceasing development. I not native to English but from my perspective doesn't mean shutting down cakewalk. It really does sounds like but it means that things like support and other stuff, nonetheless the company itself will still be.

  • I guess you could say making money in the music industry isn't exactly a cakewalk.

I know it seems that I hate the CEO (and that's because I do), but he is probably now using Orville's bones in some black arts ritual. Did I tell you how much I dislike the head of the company?

  • This makes the last zeta3 update ever more amazing in my mind. Amazing that the Cakewalk rep that was on here getting his butt chewed was actually able to get resources routed to update that out-of-date app. Major thanks to @alexwestner for putting in the effort to get that accomplished in spite of Gibson being ready to pull the plug on Cakewalk.

Which includes Alchemy with 3000 patches. Just Alchemy and all the sounds, when you wanted to buy that before, you had to pay more than 300 bucks.

  • While I have a lot of respect for Alex and the way he handled that situation - I'd be very surprised if he knew the plug was about to be pulled.

    This sucks.

True. I feel bad about giving him a rough time.
