Been looking to get one of the good notation suites ; Symphony Pro is tempting and currently reduced price, but Notion looks to be the better option. Not sure if $15 is the regular price for Notion — anyone know?

Man, I use both in my work. Symphony is the best to notate with, but Notion has the best sounds, in app sounds, and Notion is also available as desktop. The desktop is fantastic sounding.
But all in all it’s better to write music on the iPad, because of handwriting, which both apps have. And if you use the Apple Pencil, it’s almost as writing on paper....only better.

TY! It’s good to hear that they each have their own strengths & that you make both work for you. Sounds like a perfect match for my Apple pencil!

I picked up Notion, mistakenly thinking $15 was sale price, as I found on old listing when it was once supposedly $20 .. No regrets though, it’s an incredibly polished package & the sounds were a great bonus.
I’m still learning to sightread + studying general theory and think either one would have made for an excellent educational tool until I can actually use it for writing.

    I appreciate the insight!

It was only like $3 off, but I also tend to wait for the sales, even if it's just a buck. :)

Yeah, it's the cumulative effect that gets you. Once you reach a certain number of apps, you have to start rationalizing...

    +1

However, Zeeon is still good value at 9.99, so if you need a decent workhorse synth it’s recommended.

  • Loopmaker: BEATS $0,99 from $3,99

Cheers, Mr. Monzo. No question I'll get it eventually, but I need to have a few apps to covet. o:)

Yeah me too - got to have something to look forward to!

I bought Mood as well last night (6.99), and that’s worth checking out if you don’t have it. Very powerful little synth.

Yes, I just picked that one up, too -- along with VirSyn's AudioEffX and Klevgrand's Brusfri. There's a few others I'm considering...

Just had another half hour with it - could become one of my favourites, this one.

High praise, indeed. I was actually thinking of leaving it on the shelf until Moebius Lab gets AU host support. It just seems fitting to christen it that way.

  • Mood is amazing. Remember, Moebius Lab has a full on board Synth that I always manage to overlook. Moebius is wonderfully psychotic - first thing I ever had by Amazing Noises and now of course I own them all...

If you don't want to be one addicted to apeSoft / Amazing Noises then DON'T get Moebius Lab

I already have those, they were already a steal at full price. I love those 2 apps. I leave them playing in the BG when I am doing the housework. Thanks for adding those to the sales list. B)

  • SynthScaper

  • Pianoscaper shows same $2.99 price here for me.

Just check the price every so often. There have been weird delays in the sale price roll-outs.

Housework? What is this thing you speak of?
Both are also good for “sexy time”, er um, I hear.

    Perhaps I was misinformed.

  • No worries that app is worth is at that price or more. It’s such a life saver and stress saver for me. Use it every single day during my long commute to work.

  • Jordan's putting GeoShred on sale for 40% off for Cyber Monday, starting tomorrow:

  • I really love GeoShred but I’m so impatient to learn even as a 35 year guitar player and player by ear only I have a hard time adapting to the system but I really wish it had a dual screen where you could play the frets and strum I know on the iPad it would be doable.

  • @telecharge said:
Zeeon already off sale with hours left of Black Friday in the US. :/

I think it went back on sale. It is showing $6.99 for the price right now.

Notion is a good choice. In symphony Pro, handwriting is IAP, so it’s extra money.
You can buy lots of good sounds in Notion. I love the brass, the Wagner Horn is incredible
If you register, you get the Strings for free.

Sightreading is a very good tool to have learned. I bet you, everyone can learn how to write notes from their mind, just like I write these letters...
When I toured as a classical guitarist, I used to rehearse pieces just by reading the notes. Practice makes you do that. Close your eyes sometimes and just thing music, then try to write it down.
Rehearse interval training every day, Do it also in your mind before you go to sleep, just think intervals and place them on an imaginary score. That way you learn to compose like Mozart.
I use to think out the basics of an arrangement in my head, then write it in Symphony Pro, Transfer it to Notion for the great sounds, and make a pdf to send to the publisher, commissioner or whoever shall receive it.
I never make an mp3 for them :) you must show your skill by not doing that

If you are learning theory, learn Bach. His rules are still valid. They are e best,
The most important rule is counterpoint. Always consider counterpoints.

For chord changes, I suggest you listen to Mozart. He is the master of getting around all the modulations into other keys, and back to a sensible place. Not necessarily the tonic, but something suitable like the substitute key.

If you are into ambient music, learn Mahler and Wagner. They are the slow moving bastards  that led to the total break with tonality. Stravinsky and Schoenberg are masters of Avant-Garde music.

Just some fleeting thoughts from a Norwegian Musician. Wish you well buddy.

Yes Thankyou Mr Goodyear...’tis so true..I have been very ,very good...and a quick consultation with mr Eno’s wonderfully oraclesque (?) Oblique Strategies does seem to confirm your suggestion.
