Auria Pro: Top 3 IAPs
I just bought Auria, and I’m overwhelmed by the sheer number of IAPs available. I’d love to spend the time researching them all and figuring out what to get but because the sale isn’t going to last much longer and because of Thanksgiving obligations, I figured I’d poll the forum and ask you all what you think are the essential ones. I’ll also add that I mostly make rock music, recording my guitar, bass, and vocals into my iPad, so any IAPs that would suite my needs specifically would be great to hear about. Thanks guys, and happy thanksgiving!

Depends what you want to do, of course. But assuming that whatever it is you’ll want to produce/ master your tracks in AP, then you can’t go wrong with an EQ, compressor/expander and limiter.
Fab Filters
Pro-MB
Pro-Q2
Pro-L
Top 3 ones would be the ones you may need to master your tracks with. Those will be...
-Pro Q 2 - Has spectral matching.
-Pro L - Literally transparent limiter.
-Saturn - For great multiband saturation and distortion.
>
Go on, Jwm, you KNOW you want that Pro-MB.
Pro-Q2 equalizer
Pro-L limiter or Pro C2 compressor
Pro-R reverb or Saturn
Have fun!
Pro Q2, Saturn, ProL. For mixbuss compression just use the stock BussPressor: it’s from PSP and in fact really good.
I know you said 3, but for me there are four I can't do without:
Pro-R
Pro-Q2
Pro-C2
Timeless 2
P.S.: Saturn has the best distorted amp sims of iOS, despite not having guitar rig-style friendly names and controls: expect hi-quality sound, but no skeuomorphism.
What do you do for cab simulation though - do you use a cab IR after Saturn in the FX chain? Without the cab simulation I find it a bit too fizzy.
Already have it mate.
It’s Pro-R I’m missing.
This is the most accurate response. 5th would be Saturn. 6th Pro-L. Sorry to not limit it to three, but I’d say if you want a Fabfilter then you need the 4 richardyot recommended. $10 for Timless 2 is a steal.
Agreed, Saturn is the best amp sim available. And cheaper than Tonestack/Bias et al even at full price.
I find it fits my needs perfectly without, since I’m typically doing powerpop/new-wavish stuff where the drums are classic analog (samples) and bass/synth hardware or software. I like the directness of it if that makes sense. But I can understand wanting a cabinet.
I already have Timeless2, ProQ2, Saturn, Volcano. While I recognize they’re absolutely top shelf and worth every penny... I don’t really use them that much.
I don’t think I can afford another IAP at the $20 level, but if I end up caving, are you two putting Pro-R at the top of the list as the most useful out of the lot? I kind of regret not buying it the last time it was on sale, but I’m nagged by the truth that I don’t end up using any of these often. I know the desktop version is highly regarded and much more expensive. For what use specifically is this more valuable than all other iOS reverbs?
The Pro-R is just...the most unobtrusive reverb I’ve ever encountered. It’s so smooth and blends in with anything. I think it works most naturally for vocals, then acoustic instruments, then synths. I’d say if you are synth heavy then you’re probably already covered....though it still does a better job than anything else. It’s just that...even when it’s cranked up, it’s subtle is the best way I can explain it. And how I think a reverb should be.
What is your current go to?
And as far as putting things at the top of the lot, I’d personally recommend Timeless 2 to anyone wanting to enter Fabfilter territory. Next up would be Pro-R, Pro-C, or Pro-Q2, depending on if you actually do your own mixing/finish tracks etc. The pure joy bundle is Timeless and Pro-R.
No vocals, or acoustic instruments usually. Mostly synth or field sound blended into granular stuff, etc. I typically go with RF-1 and/or Amazing Noises Reverb. I’ll like buy Audio Damages EOS2 as well.
I was an Eos fiend when it first came out, and it’s quality no doubt, but I find myself choosing the Amazing Noises one more and more these days when I’m in AUM. You’re the first I’ve seen to tout the RF-1, I found it way too artficial for my tastes (and I do do stuff besides the poppish, e.g. 70s Kraut-style stuff and the occasional soundscape).
Do you ever post any of your stuff on here? I’d listen.
I just bought Auria Pro as well and I went with
Fabfilters
Pro Q2
Pro C
pro L
Pro R
And Saturn!
You did it right. Just throw Timeless in there if you can spare it
No, hardly ever. Am actually trying to transition away from "musical" stuff, and back to my original iOS sound focus of trying to come up with audio beds for visual stuff, and cinematic mood sorts of compositions that could be targeted for stock agency resale like what you can get on Getty and Pond5, etc. ie. I need something quiet and tense for this horror sequence, or something to accompany a visual abstract piece.
Anything "musical" is merely just fun for me, but not anything I want to drop much dough on.
I mentioned the RF-1 mostly because I just like Kai Aras stuff. The sound, stable, and the interface design. However, I don't think I'm completely covered for reverb quite yet. Given what I've mentioned, would you pass on EOS2 and take the plunge for Pro-R? Or, for my use Pro-R is not the best suited and a bit overkill?
This has been so useful. Thanks for all the input even though not my thread
Does anyone know if it’s possible to purchase through a @thesoundtestroom link for all the IAPS?
I think, given the price difference, that it depends on how much time you spend or are willing to spend in Auria. I’m guilty of neglecting the (my favorite) Fab plugins for the quick AUM jam. But in your case, with field recordings, I’d imagine you spend a lot of time just importing tracks into Auria for mixing with your own synth/soundscapes as you please. If I’m correct, then spring for the Pro-R.
And like I said, I’ve come to prefer the Amazing Noises Reverb over Eos. The Superhall Reverb on Eos, which is one of its selling points (algorithm by Sean Valhalla-whats-his-name) is my least favorite; it’s too dense and creates an unwieldy low/mid end. Maybe try checking out a video where Plate 1 is featured if you’re thinking of going for that one.
I don’t always equate price with quality, but every case of the Fabfilters has held up to that notion based on the closest iOS comparisons...so at the end of the day, if you’re gonna buy one of the two, just go with the Fab.
My favourite is still Pro-L. Just because it seems to do lovely things to my mixes. And I can't tell you why, but it makes me happy.
Pro-C, Pro-Q, (the new ones,) Saturn and Timeless are very cool, especially for a guitar player. Right there is pretty much every pedal you have ever lusted for.
True, but it’s the least fun for the most money. The limiter and the EQ and Saturn are all HOLY SHIT! plug-ins.
From the desktop versions I use Pro Q, Pro L on a daily basis. Saturn sometimes. I don’t own Pro R yet but that’s coming soon. I picked up their total bungalow a few years back and it’s been easily the best investment I’ve made. FF FTW!
Thanks. That's helpful. I'm likely going to wait until the last possible moment to decide though.
Seems like a lot more sales this year... gonna wait and see how it shakes out to get the most bang for my limited shekels.
I could be wrong but I think is sale on fabfilter plug-ins is more generous than usual.
I’m sure the discount is usually 25% off?
Yes never this high!
Pro-R is so tempting! At this reduced price.
@skiphunt the thing I really love about Pro-R is that you can tune both the reflections and the overall tonality, so it’s very easy to get just the sound you like. And FWIW personally I don’t like EOS at all, too digital sounding to me.
We are getting a good deal, and WaveLabs are doing just what they said. But Apple are striking in-between for UK buyers, adding to the cost.
I noticed that the Pro-R I bought today was listed at something over $15. Proper half price. Yet, the second I pressed buy, I was charged something over £19.
