Damn @Max23 . These tracks are really great and sound nothing like what’s called trance these days. I wish I grew up during this era of trance. I cut my trance teeth on late 90s Paul Van Dyk, late 90s ATB, and Paul Oakenfold’s incredible “Perfecto Presents Another World” set.

Keep the recommendations and YT vids coming mate. :)

Also @Max23 and @Cib , do you have any advice on producing this classic-styled trance? (By this, I mean song form, or is it all minimalism, or...?) I want to take a break from trying to produce modern stuff and give classic trance production a try. Gadget would be what I’d most likely use, and I have all IAPs. Cheers.

  • @jdolecek70 If classic early-to-mid 90s trance is your bag mate, Gadget with iM1 and iMono/Poly could be your ticket.

    http://forum.vintagesynth.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=68445#p672415

And nabbing iMS-20 might be worth your time too even though it has no Gadget counterpart. I’d skip iPolysix since it’s similar to iMono/Poly but far less featured.

Actually mate, tell us what type of trance you want to produce. Give a youtube example. My mate @Max23 sure isn’t afraid to share what he likes, lol. ;)

thats hardtrance... hardtrance is something else than hardstyle... hardstyle is basically "less hard" version of hardcore, often with masoc basslinr melody played by kick itself

your example is oldschool hardtrance.. pr maybe this was sound of hardstyle in beginning, 15 years ago.. nowaday hardstyle is something completely different, its represented by projects like Wild Motherfuckers, Da Tweekaz, Headhunters and others

Here is set of best hardstyle releases from past year

I find it a bit silly to use same name for genre that has changed a lot. I mean there are new names for genres that have evolved, like trap, jazz fusion etc. similar amount than hardstyle. Its almost like(with a bit exaggeration) calling rock music blues because thats where its roots are. The first video sounded like completely different genre. My interest in this genre faded like 15 years ago and havent been looking at how it has evolved.

@ToMess it is like it is.. simply producers who make this music, party promoters who make big events for many tenth of thousands people and everybody on this scene calls it “hardstyle” and “hardcore” - so it is wasting of time discussing if it is good or isn’t .. it is simply fact, thats how those genres (extremely popular for example in Netherlands, where all those big events lime Defqon, Dominator, Masters of Hardcore happens every year)

Of course hard* genres haven’t much common with trance, i mentioned it just as example that supersaw leads are used also in other genres than just cheesy happy trance :)))

You can stay stucked with 90’s music, or you can move forward ;) Or both - thats my choice, i like lot old music but also a lot new tracks across manyngenres from ambient throug trance to hardest branches of electronic music

regarding oldschool trance, this is one of my favourites

and this is also great track

  • Another favorite from me. I liked this long and epic style which transforms into wonderful trancy sounds.
All this sounds are easy to made today on even iPhones maybe....... :)

  • I agree....nice to fall back to our youth and the 90´s and early 2000 was where i grow up with goa, hardcore, trance, hard-trance but as great some of these tracks and artists are i think i like some of the modern young artists more.
More depth, better FX, i get quite the same feeling but totally different style.
I´m just confused sometimes with all the genres and sub-genres called Psychill, Chillgressive, Mid-Tempo, Dream-Trance, Ambient-Trance, Dance-Trance, lulu, lala and bla bla.....etc. There is often a lot overlap for me into trough these genres. I like myself to "break" rules and make mix them all up.....sacrilege :o
A reason i called these kind of music just atmospheric electronic myself when i (tried) it myself.
Anyway i got older and like more slower tunes now around 120 BPM or spacy ambient mostly but still like to hear some really driving and moving electronic beats. But today i maybe find just 2-3 artist very good and almost like everything they release where there were a lot more when i was young.
The good thing is we can still listen to all the old tunes and have also a lot of great new things. Sometimes they are just hard to find between all that commercial EDM and POP songs.
But is that not nice that we (in theory) could make all these wonderful tunes now too with affordable gear.
I mean you could program such an old classic trance tune in some hours or even less with the right tools.
Maybe it´s like with cinema and TV. If you compare the soundtracks of similar movies they have changed really much while still produce about the same mood, feelings. I´m all in for the modern world of music and sound design because we can do all what they did in the past and much more.....even at home, laying on the couch!

Sometimes i thinking about creating some project where i will try create some oldschool stuff, just better sounding based on current sound standards .. maybe .. :)

For example in psytrance now is pretty strong movement around reviving old goa spirit, (of course with modern, more polished sound), which was lost in translation specially because of bad influence from israeli trance scene ..

it's called "neogoa" and it returnes psychedelic trance little bit back to roots, back to more complicated melodies, more psychedelic stuff and less "techno-like" short stupid repeatting patterns (and damn fucking triplets !!)

like this , pure ensence of 90's goa spirit but with modern sound

  • I love psychedelic stuff as well. Great way to get high without drugs :)
Like i said my favorite modern (and still young) artist is Astropilot which cover a lot of ground and depth in my opinion. He also made soundtracks for iOS apps like StarWalk and SolarWalk. That was indeed where i explored this artist the first time. So i also can say that iOS not only brought me to making my own music, it also brought me to my current favorite electronic musician. :#
Maybe it´s even the artist from which i could say i like the most tracks and albums he made (not all of course too).
Indeed i think that instruments, FX, mastering and depth if well used exceed the things by far we had for 20 years.
An example for me and it´s almost trance for me (not really i know):

Yeah Astropilot awesome interdimmensional stuff, listening a lot his tunes... what is important, his tracks are not just technically perfected but you feel soul there.. spirit.. true musician, not many of that kind today...

It really is such deep stuff. It´s no music it´s a piece of art and a journey for me :)

Thanks for these @max23. Thanks sincerely for the derailment of this thread. For the past several years i intermittently go on searches for these types of sounds and vibes and fail miserably. I can't wait to listen to more in this thread. Thanks @jdolecek70

I still have the 2 Full Moons 12" sitting in the basement. Always have time for a Trio Bulgarka sample.

One of the best compilations ever! Still my Favorite. Have it at home in my CD shelf. Made me get into producing for real.

I got to open for them at a rave back in the day. It was one of the worst nights of my life...but also one of the best.

We were prepared for our biggest gig ever but the sound man fucked up and every time we dropped a beat the electricity would brown out and all our gear would reset, we were up there for 5-10 agonizing minutes trying to deal with it looking like losers in front of hundreds of people until a dj finally took over.

When we got off stage my partner quit parties and playing live permanently, I on the other hand did E for the first time and had an amazing life transforming awakening.

That is a fantastic story and I almost missed it for some reason. Here’s to awakening experiences! I love how the most popular image in the world is now an acid smiley
