Sounds like great news although the blurb suggests you can therefore use extra lfos etc. So not entirely clear the extent of the convergence. Wish there was a bit more guidance for both digitakt and digitone new features. Look forward to updating the os
Mono or stereo?
Dave explains the mono LFO and other good additions here...
Ahh thanks. Was hoping to use audio in as an lfo
Man. Now that this is over USB Audio i love it even more 👊🏼™️
What about the other way around...sampling from the iPad into the Digitakt?
Yes! That made me smile big time today!!!! Incredible - would never thought that they could and would add that to the machine! And out of the blue
Videos, s.v.p.!
I hope they add this to Rytm and A4 too, since I have those. 😁 They work on similar premises as Digitakt and Digitone. Those overbridge on iOS would be my dream.
Unfortunately not. Summed to Mono it seems.
Yeah, initial tests seemed to work. Gonna be fun experimenting with this combo. Mono sampling though.
Yeah, that would be too cool!
Thanks @SpookyZoo for checking all that. This really makes me want to pull the trigger on a digitakt.
Last question...how does midi work? Does it work over USB? Sorry if that’s a stupid question, I’m not very up on hardware integration with things.
I'm going to have to see what's new with this because I though USB MIDI always worked, but it's listed as a new feature.
Also, there are separate settings for [ USB MIDI ] & [ USB Audio/MIDI ] the latter though seemed to cut my previously working USB MIDI connection. Hmmm, I'll have to do more experimenting with the different settings.
Did you have any specific MIDI setup in mind?
Was thinking about how to:
Hey @drez, I edited my previous answer a bit as I need to check up on a few MIDI settings.
The bi-directional sequencing I'm certain is possible. In fact I'm guessing that's what @echoopera is doing tonight. haha
The Digitakt does respond to Program Change messages for changing Patterns. I've read some people having some quirks with this in the past but not something I've experimented with much myself on the Digitakt. A lot of the fun is getting hands on and trying to do a lot of that stuff manually.
I'm sure if you've had your eye on a Digitakt for any amount of time then you have come across this Elektronauts forum already. But just in case you haven't... https://www.elektronauts.com/c/elektron-gear/digitakt
@SpookyZoo thank you so much for poking around for me. I’ve been trying to decide if I want to buy a MacBook Pro, build a new desktop, or just wait. I’ve not been very creative for several months so actually finishing a song right now seems like a lofty goal. But buying a digitakt and just creating whatever with my iPad might satisfy my creative urges whenever they happen to strike (however gently at this point ). I miss setting up my push with ableton because of the tactile feel of it. Glass just isn’t the same. A combo of both iPad and digitakt though...
New trig preview is fantastic. Hold a trig and press YES to preview whatever is on that trig, including all p-locks. Way better than having to wait for the entire pattern to play through.
I certainly think the new features make the Digitakt + iPad combo more enticing.
However there is no magic box for finishing songs unfortunately. I bought a Squarp Pyramid after feeling a bit limited by the 4 note per track Polyphony of Digitakt. Both great at what they do but I'm constantly moving from one setup to another finding the fun is often in trying out new things. Doesn't make a good environment for getting sketches finished though.
I've been using Ableton a lot more lately with the LaunchPad Pro MK3, and that combo of tactile controller and desktop you mention is certainly addictive.
I just wish I could stay still a while and develop a workflow! ha
BTW I wouldn't let my mention of the Digitakt polyphony put you off. There's plenty that can be done from that one controller.
This dude Ehsan pretty much sequences everything from the one Digitakt and his stuff always sounds great....
Wooooah that is really nice! @giku_beepstreet ^^^ (drambo hint )
Yeah, top addition that.
Yeah I would definitely not be buying a digitakt to finish songs! It would be for creating and then exporting to ableton at some point. Right now, I’d just like to learn and make sounds and loops for later use when/if I get back into full on song writing mode. Not seeing that coming any time soon. Life is taking me in different directions, so my music making outlet is apparently changing as well.
I already know I can be quick with Push and Ableton, I’m just balking on the initial investment of a new desktop/laptop rig if I’m not going to really use it because I’m not that into it at the moment. But I lower dollar investment in the Digitakt combined with the ipad I already own might scratch my itch enough...for now.
Wow. That's quite an update! Trig preview and class compliant USB are both most welcome but all I really want is MIDI Sounds.
@SpookyZoo Thanks!
In terms of the workflow to get something finished, reduction to the bare minimum has been key for me. You can always record audio clips of your fun moments and finally stop using the gear and arrange many of these audio snippets in a DAW to build something greater from them.
That's also good for choosing the best clips to be taken further.
question : i have the digitone plugged into the ipad, it works just fine in AUM. how do i sync the start/tempo between DN and AUM ?
@mlau You'll need a midi interface that's connected to iPad and Digitone. Like a Yamaha Bluetooth or USB to DIN adapter.
Just connect the iPad to the DN via CCK and USB cable. Make AUM send MIDI clock to the DN and enable slave clock sync via USB MIDI on the DN.
@auxmux many thanks 👍
@rs2000 what is cck ? here, i have an ipad pro 11 usb-c .... thanks
@rs2000 also can you tell me how to enable slave clock sync in DN ?
@rs2000 ah ok ! got it ! works perfectly now .... many thanks !!!
