The Menu (2022), with a great cast including Ralph Fiennes. A dark comedy horror about rich foodies.

Loved that one as well! I wasn’t expecting it to be as funny or as horrific as it ended up being lol. A great dark comedy (one of my favorite genres).

Yeah! I don't know how I didn't hear about it before, this is really up my street, also done by a few people who worked on Succession, easily one of my favourite TV shows ever.

That’s high up on my list of things to watch. Gotta get caught up on Atlanta and finish Better Call Saul first. That and Severance are the 2 I want to watch the most right now.

Oh man, lucky you still having Succession to look forward to. The first season really takes a while to get going, many of the early episodes are quite weak, but it really picks up in the second half and the last 2 episodes are some of the best TV ever. Then the future seasons are all generally very high quality.

Yeah everyone whose opinion I trust says it’s a great show and I’ve heard a handful of people saying it may be a contender for all time best lists. I’m looking forward to it. It’s nice to have a new show to be obsessed with lol. It’s over now correct? Or is there another season coming?

Succession is like Dostoyevsky, but on TV.

Season 4 is the final one.

I keep seeing good reviews so I’m definitely looking forward to it. It just needs to be after the holidays calm down because I’m only resubscribing to Apple TV to watch it. So I have to binge it quickly so I don’t have to pay for 2 months 😂

  • Blue Eye Samurai is great if you like animes. Almost as good as a Kurosawa movie…maybe even better

I hadn’t heard it compared to Dostoyevsky before, but I keep hearing it being compared to the 70s/80s show ‘Dallas’.

If the former is true I would watch it, but if the latter is true I have reservations…

  • Rewatching “Samurai Champloo” .. worth it for the soundtrack alone , with the added benefit of being a great anime.

    RIP Nujabes

Even the “Ellie Mae by the cement pond” guitar flourishes don’t detract.
    Maybe the director hated saxophones?

I just finished episode 5. It worth the Netflix abo just for this one

  • Three Body on Amazon. Excellent adaptation of the popular sci-fi book. There’s a few rough translations at times, but I found it really well done over all. Heads up, the first season is 30(!!!!) episodes, so get lots of popcorn.

There’s a US version from the creators of Game Of Thrones coming to Netflix later this I believe, but I would definitely recommend this one to watch first.

Funny you should mention this, I’ve got up to episode eight but I’m considering investing the time in a re read of the book as it’s really not doing it for me, just seems incredibly cheesy and more than a bit dull… the bit that really gets me is the title music with the repeated lyric “I’ve seen things you people won’t believe…” Rutger Hauer will along for his royalty payment shortly 😅

It’s clearly an expensive production, but somehow feels really cheap, a combo of a limited cast and maybe the script is lost in translation but it all comes off quite awkward in my view…I like the cop script the best though, he reminds me of a real one I met in Beijing years ago, proper cheeky chancer 😄

I might continue, but only out of a sense of completeness, I don’t know though, if thirty is only a first season…

  • I felt like it took til episode 10 to really get going myself. But yeah, the Rutger hauer quote was a little cheesy. I never read the books, so I found the story really well done myself.

I like it best for all the location shots and set ups in Beijing, I was only there a couple of months but I really liked it, especially the food /restaurants and general social life, really cool city…

  • LOL, guess what just came out today? Preview for the Netflix version:

If you found the Amazon version slow and tedious, prepare to have your retinas burned out.

new season of Fargo (season 5). If I had to describe it in one word: Perfection!

S1 & S2 of Fargo were really great. S3 & 4 not so much. But S5 could be the best of all.
Juno Temple & Jon Hamm are both at the top of their game this season!

I’m gonna start it tonight. I’ve loved every season so far. Season 1-2 are some of my favorite TV ever. Up there with Twin Peaks and The Sopranos

The Amazon one was done last year in China, it's not a US show. Also, the very first trailer for the Netflix one I linked above just came out 2 days ago, we're still months away from it being released. Not sure how there are reviews for something not even out yet 👍🏼

  • I watched ‘Court of the Crimson King’ last night. Robert Fripp is definitely a very unique person who lives and breathes his music.

Sorry I mixed up. No reviews yet for the netflix one coming next march. Guess that’s the one I’ll be watching.
I’ve been willing to read the first book for ages, maybe now it’s the timing

  • I’ve been watching The Wire for the first time. It is very good.

  • Dead City.

    No

  • Fargo Season 5

    Yes

  • South Africa at the Hague. I won't say it's good, but it feels Incredibly significant. Israel, by proxy the 'West', and international Justice itself are on trial.
