Audiobus 2 pulled from AppStore? (Yes)
I might be going bonkers here. I’ve been running AB2 alongside AUM and others for a few months now. I’ve been good and up to date with iOS on both of my iPads (air 2 and pro 10.5) but after I’ve updated my air 2 to 11.3 Turnado started to unplug itself from Audiobus.
Restart...no change, reinstall Turnado...no change.
I’ve backed up presets via iTunes deleted and tried to reinstall Audiobus 2 ....can’t find it on the AppStore, check developers others apps...nothing.
Then I’ve installed my backup copy via ifunbox but ab2 no longer appears on the app file sharing list in iTunes!
I have no idea what’s going on and I’m too tired to look into it tonight but would love some confirmation from others just to check my sanity. Goodnight.
Comments
@Michael?
Have you checked under your "purchased" tab? @supadom
(Still strange that its gone, im still using AB2)
Nice one. I’ve deleted ifunbox version and installed one I found in the purchased bit of AppStore. Still it’s strange the ifunbox version wouldn’t appear in iTunes sharing.
Cheers for the tip.
Not going crazy, I've removed it from sale; it was causing enough confusion for people that it was getting lots of crappy app store reviews so I just pulled it
I’m asking this in all sincerity, not trying to be a jackoff or anything: once Audiobus 3 was released why would one want to continue to use Audiobus 2?
Is it re: older hardware doesn’t gel with AB3 so AB2 is still needed? Was the price point of 3 a consideration? I can’t remember exactly what it debuted at but AB3 was released under $10 right?
Just curious because the analogy I’m thinking of is like with FabFilter Pro-L2 because it’s fresh on the brain: Pro-L2 is more capable and “better” than Pro-L1 in theory but it doesn’t disqualify Pro-L1 from still being used, it’s still a great limiter.
Is this applicable to AB2 for some?
Some (possibly many) people here have been experiencing issues with AB3 (crackles, graphics, apps not loading etc.). You’ll appreciate that folks who go out on stage or even just wanting smooth performance would want to stick with the older version that is simpler and has been fine tuned by the dev.
Definitely not the price
I personally bought AB3 on release but held off using it becoause of some early issues. Since I’ve gotten on the beta I’ve decided to help and started using it instead of AB2 but a couple of months later moved back to AB2/AUM combination as It seemed the most efficient way of doing this. Water will flow.
For me it was mostly the fact that apps wouldn’t load and come up with “tap to fix”, which would most often require killing the offending app in the background and starting over again which was rather disheartening. AB2 doesn’t have auto load but loads apps more efficiently and connections are retained. Until 11.6 update that is that (in my case) caused Turnado regularly unplugging mid session. Which in turn brings me back to why I looked for AB2 on the AppStore and started this thread in the first place.
Ok, good to know.
AB2 has alway done what I need so why mess with something that's not broke.
Also budget is a factor because I have dozens of apps on my wishlist which adds up even if they are individually not expensive.
Same here
Interesting
We still have AB2 around, and use it occasionally. Not very happy to find that if it became necessary to restore an iPad, this purchase would be missing.
I can understand Michael’s reasoning, but it’s the app equivalent of having an old favourite you thought you owned taken away if an OS caused problems.
Yeah, I’m really not very happy with this either. ... I bought AB2 maybe a year ago and have barely used it. I was really looking forward to getting AB3 at some point but Idk. It kinda feels like a waste of money to me anymore. These Forums are great though.
Audiobus 3 requires iOS 10.2 or later.
Probably people with iPad 2...iPad4 running humble apps and/or small projects is the only reason to using AB2.
Can’t it still be downloaded from the ‘purchased apps’ section?
That’s a pain if not, we’ve inherited the mother-in-laws old iPad, and I was hoping to install some of my music apps. It’s slower than my Air 2 so was going to keep everything cpu friendly.
Not sure. Perhaps Michael can clarify this. If AB2 can still be downloaded by those who have already bought it, then that is fair enough.
I suspect that many of us will have older projects, which rely on apps that have not been updated to AB3.
Lucky me, bought last Friday an iPad Pro 12,9 inch and installed AB2 that day. It's working fine.
What Michael could do is announcing that he no longer supports AB2 but still let it be on sale at the app store.
It’s still in the purchased list so can still be downloaded and backed up if necessary at least.
AB2 is indeed in the purchased section. But it is not for sale now, only AB3 is. AB2 is perfect for what I need, so I stick with it.
My thoughts about backing up apps: I did a backup with iTunes of my iPad some time ago, but I remember that the apps weren’t backed up anymore. So I think you’ll need third party software to back up apps. I am not 100% sure about this though. But if one makes a backup with iTunes with the intention of backing up apps, I advice to double check if apps are actually backed up.
I'm using iTunes 12.5.5.5 and you can still download and backup your apps from your account app library with this version (on Windows anyway) You can also use ifunbox and iMazing to backup and reinstall apps.
Thanks guys!
Thanks for reply @Carnbot. That means I have to downgrade my iTunes for Windows....which requires some energy/thinking/research/tricks etc, etc, if possible at all. Doesn’t iFunbox and iMazing use the iTunes library for its data - which doesn’t contain apps if you use the latest iTunes ?
Yeah I'm not sure about downgrading iTunes, I've just stayed on this one for ages. But I don't see why you can't uninstall and reinstall an older version. Hmm, just did a quick test with Ifunbox and didn't manage to extract the apps, not sure if I need to reinstall it. But the iTunes method on 12.5.5.5 still works for me at least (for now)
EEEDEEEOTS ! Bad reviews for Audiobus?!?!
Yeah, I learned years ago it's best to look at purchases of technology like a rental. Get your money's worth out of it right then and there because it's going to be obsolete, or there will be something new to move on to, soon enough. Of course, with iOS, it's never a huge investment to begin with, so easy to move on.
I tend to see it as an ice cream.
