One question though... the demo on desktop doesn't come with an uninstall routine. Is it just the au component and the vst to delete... and that's all?

There might be a registry entry on Windows and a preset file stored somewhere on either OS, but typically with MacOS you just delete the AU and VST and you’re good to go.

How does the released iOS AUv3 version compare to the free browser version?

If I wasn’t all that attracted to the web version after a 15min play, am I likely not to dig the iOS version that much either?

FWIW I didn't enjoy using the web version. Partly down to being buggy for me. But I dig the plugin. Do you have a laptop/desktop? You can demo it on those platforms and get a clear picture of what you're getting.

    Thanks

Yeah, the web one was kinda buggy for me too... might've been what turned me off initially, now that I think about it. Had to try a couple different browsers, hung up, etc. Gave up on it quickly because of it I reckon.

I do have a desktop and Logic. I'll just download the demo and see if it's something I think I'll use much. My own metric for apps that are just fun every now and then is under $5. Over that, and I have to justify that I'll actually use it a fair bit. On the fence with this one... considering all the other "tape like" effects I already have.

Yeah definitely worth demoing if the web version was buggy for you too.

I don't have any other ios lofi tape plugs so I'm stoked on grabbing this one. Not the cheapest plugin in the store but pretty good deal considering how much I'm likely to use it.

Just played with the demo. Not much to this is there? Meh... I don't think I'd use it instead of what I already have. I can see a marginal nostalgic appeal, and it's a bit quicker to get that sound than the other fx I have. But, I think I'm gonna pass. Might put a watch on it via appshopper for a killer sale at some point.

Haha, not sure what you were expecting, its just a cassette sim ;) But yeah if it doesn't sound any different to what you already have and the convenience of not having to chain fx apps doesn't appeal then you just saved yourself $8 :)

Not sure about the desktop uninstall. Im lazy and normally just let unused and demo plugins fester....

Lol, yeah... not sure what I was expecting either. Seems simple and straight forward. Given the cost I thought maybe there'd be some more parameters, emulation presets, etc. to play with or something. Nothing wrong with simplicity though. Either it's your jam or it ain't. Cool sound, but I think I'm covered for now. Thanks for the feedback. :)

  • Had a few problems with 3 AU instances crashing in Cubasis on iPad Pro 9.7 was Fine in AUM.

Klevgrand doesn't seem to have sales that much right? This might be the lowest it gets.

They do every now and then... but not very often, and not usually when everyone else is having sales either.

If it's something you really want, love the sound, and think you'll get a lot of use out of... I'd get it. For me, it's just a bit too basic and I can get a very similar sound with what I already have. I would've only got it for the convenience factor that it's easy to get that sound quickly with it. And, it's AUv3.

I likely would've snapped it up if it'd been under $5 for that reason.

If you don't have anything that does tape emulation already... this developer seems to keep their apps maintained and doesn't appear to be going anywhere. If they had an even better sale on this... I wouldn't expect it anytime soon since they've come out of the gate at the $8 mark. Maybe they'll do something in the Fall, black friday kind of thing... but other than that, if you want it I'd get it.

Same iPad, I was fine with 3 Cubasis instances earlier today, even with 6 or 7 more AUs loaded.

  • I thought the price was a little steep, which I hate to admit because I feel that most everything is crazy cheap on iOS, but I caved because I’m just a man... and I’m finding this incredibly useful. Like, it’s really really nice on a lot of stuff. I don’t care for tape nostalgia, but I care about how things sound. This is a very useful sound manipulator. The character isn’t like any other iOS effect. Only wish the machine warble was slower (or adjustable), but pair this with Aleksandar Mlazev’s Vibrato (both dials near zero) and feel the waaaaaarm waves.

Current iOS prices warrant a smaller price tag, but perhaps this is priced with the future of iOS in mind? Who knows...

  • Hmm I've been playing around with the desktop demo for thirty-odd minutes and I think I like it. It doesn't get quite as gnarly as I had hoped it would but the effect is pretty impressive -- at moderate settings, it genuinely sounds like I'm listening to a cassette. More extreme settings get pretty sloppy.

I do wish you had some control over the warble rate. I like a really slow, seasick churn and this one is more "fluttery." Overall, I'm impressed and will most likely pick up a license before the sale ends.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Dev is a bit busy with family commitments, will be investigating missing params in Cubasis next week.

  • Bought this and Grand Finale yesterday. Seems like a dev worth supporting.

now read my second comment, lol

  • I thought that WebCassette was a novelty, but when this dropped and I really got a chance to dig in it quickly became my favorite "dirt" app for drums especially. Drum machines sound fantastic with the input gain cranked....

  • Can also confirm that there are some bugs to be ironed out.

Cubasis with multiple tracks with DAW cassette applied. When loading the project up from scratch - some instance do not load showing a blank module.

Report to dev but not heard back just yet.

    Awesome AUV3 though!

Can you automate the AU parameters?
Was hoping it might be a little cheaper but seems the best on iOS so far for a tape effect and AU to boot.

Weird, in Cubasis Tape Quality and Motor Quality are missing ... Head Quality OK. Other controls fine.

I'm guessing this a bug, don't see why they couldn't be tweaked.

(edit) Have emailed support, will update here accordingly.

(edit 2) After an impressively swift response it’s confirmed as a bug (for me at least). All controls automatable in BM3 for me though.

Thanks for the report, had a quick go on the VST demo version and will pick up the iOS version a bit later :)

From first time I heard it, I’ve been trying and failing to get the Jimmy Page guitar tone from Black Dog. Finally nailed it completely by accident when I tossed it on to a guitar riff. I had heard that he played through a reel to reel tape machine at times, but never made the connection or had a way to try it out.

    It is.

Maybe this update will get rid of the horrible aliasing.
