  • @bcrichards Fantastic video, nice to see something more in depth. Was already looking forward to this but it's got my brain going already.

Just finished the video. Thanks so much for making this, it looks absolutely epic. A fully featured modular system within a beatstep groove box system, with sampling and midi capability. My questions so far...

    • AU3 hosting? I'm assuming it can spit out midi data to external apps, but to have them hosted in Drambo would be incredible.
    • parameter recording? To be able to record the movement of every parameter would be awesome.

The scene lock function looks brilliant. I'm not 100% on how this works, but it seems to be an extra added level of arrangement within each channel. It's a bit like an arranger within an arranger. E.g. in a drum track, you can have different mini arrangements without having to change to an entirely different master arrangement. I've probably worded it wrong!

And the amount of modular functionality is huge. Reminded me of Audulus, but without the head scratching!

Oh and you can throw a whole channel into another channel's modular set up!

I really can't wait to get my hands on this thing. Looking forward to more demos.

    • AU3 hosting is planned (after release). I need to load Drambo into Drambo ;)
    • Param recording is possible, but only as p-locks. So its stepped.

Sorry I left plock recording out, will show it in a future video. And WHAT??? That’s nuts!

Yeah it’s very much an arranger for different sounds, but there’s the fact that you can morph freely between them. I glossed over that for some reason.

Yes, you can have tracks affect each other. I have not fully delved into this feature yet but you can for instance set up simple mixer tracks which receive audio input, but they can also receive trigs and whatever else from any previous track. There’s a couple ways to make a side chain compressor :) I did not state very clearly, but signal only flows from left to right, this goes for within tracks but also between tracks. So you can only take input from a module or track that is further left. I believe Giku made this decision to speed up processing times.

Thanks for the video. WOW! This looks incredible.

  • Thanks very much @bcrichards for taking the time to do this. Very well done and you have an easy style of presenting.

As for the app ... holy ceeeerapppola. I'm salivating.

Yeah, so as far as I can understand it, you can have a track containing several different racks (instruments), and then switch/fade between the racks. It's a very cool feature. Is it fading or morphing? Oh and I also wondered if it is possible to link the fader to an LFO?

  • You can do it on different levels

    • You can connect a module with any module in ascending racks.
    • Track is a module. So you can e.g. ring modulate outputs of 2 tracks.
  • @jameslondon74 it is morphing! So you can switch instantly just by tapping into another scene, but if you use the fader it actually morphs between your parameters. So you could set up a mixer and morph between different signals if you wanted to, or use the same modules and morph between parameter settings there. Lots of different uses :)

Currently scenes cannot be modulated or recorded. Giku can weigh in on if this is something coming for future. Would be very cool.

  • @bcrichards Yes its a performance feature, but it will be hackable :). e.g. you can modulate scene fader, project bpm and anything else using MIDI learn and MIDI loopback port.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.

So I’ve heard about this app called Drambo, seems to have a lot discussion, and odd comments about various things in this thread.

When’s it due to drop ?

Supposedly this month per last word of developer, but I’m gonna go ahead and bet on March. I think it’s a safe bet.

  • edited January 2020

I should say nothing more on release date. The good/bad thing is I moved a lot of features to v.1.1 :) e.g. MIDI learn or MIDI CC recording.

From what I've seen it will be a while before I'm worried about MIDI anything. Looks like Drambo is quite capable within itself.

MIDI loopback? Please explain, it sounds radical.

  • And what about parameter recording? Any thoughts?

  • ok i’m ready for it!

  • @bcrichards thank you so much. More, please :)

  • @bcrichards

Ben, that was phenomenal. Thank you so much for making that video. I like your unassuming and straightforward manner, but I joke you showing off the sampler module even more!

I noticed that when you brought up the Files menu (Sample load) there was a small icon that looked like a play button next to the files. Is it possible to preview a file before loading it into Drambo?

  • @papertiger yes you can preview samples. it seems some samples I have imported are not previewable or at least don't have the preview arrow, so it may not work with every file type. But you can still use those samples.

you can also audition the samples while you are selecting, so if you have a sequence (or probably any kind of input) you can try different samples in those slots. It's nice.

I will do more videos, at @giku_beepstreet discretion, at least until release. Thought it would be harder and scarier posting than it was.

    Thank you for your response.

I think your lack of fear and low key style are a big part of why it wasn’t scary. You weren’t performing, just showing a bunch of other music nerds some stuff you’re excited about.

  • Is this demo made on a Ipad Pro?

I'll second that. You're in good company bro. We just wanna see it used, and you used it. My favourite videos are when people are just noodling around and telling us what they are doing, making a few errors, correcting themselves etc.

This app looks deep. So thank you for the awesome intro.
How long you been using it for?

thanks all for encouragement :) a little over a month now. It doesn't take long at all to get the hang of it though. Also as some other beta testers have noted its rife for sharing and building. We need like a Drambo patch Creative Commons license to encourage sharing. There's even a text box module so you can write up documentation or instructions for what's happening/how to play with rack in fun ways.

This is fantastic. I've often wanted to make notes in-app rather than on a separate notepad, and save the notes with each setup.

I have so many questions.. Does it host external effects apps?

  • Just watched the video. This seems like all the Elektron boxes rolled into one fantastic app. I wish we could get this in hardware box. It looks great.

  • You don't have to use Drambo sequencer. You can load/make a single instrument/fx rack and use it as an AUv3 instrument/fx in any DAW.
