Also I remember have seen this time ago in “careers” section of its own web (or was at NI?) but silence from them in any other way.

What was the Fb content? A snapshot?

    Ah! Ok...
I remember have seen a similar offer elsewhere but ATM in their jobs (that was the word, not career) seems nothing related... which can be good news being out of spotlight development...

    https://www.ableton.com/en/jobs/apply/85991/

Also the owners had an interview where talk about the possibility to go standalone more than mobile (not directly these words but it was my conclusion). These and NI are too much dependent from x86. I don’t expect huge improvements until Apple deliver a new rosseta-like system.

Steps are being made in that direction but not sure about iOS13 running desktop apps as regular.

    https://thehackernews.com/2018/06/porting-ios-apps-macos.html

If we get the discussion into technical side (maybe some devs could give us some light about it) I understand multicore has more relevance than plain users like me can understand. I said that regarding the powerup latest iPad pro chips brang cappable enough for Photoshop and so on.

From coding side it will require some rewritting and even so not sure about full ableton any time soon. Maybe Apple could do the same for Logic but they are keeping it tethered to macs? Why? That’s against iPad as powerful computer substitute mantra...

Porting Ableton should be posible since iOS has powerful apps like BM3/NS2 coded by less than 5 member teams (NS2 one) and also maxforlive have its prcedent in libpd. Touchable could be the perfect GUI for iAbleton and Zmors seems a great approach to patching paradigm...

Mmmm... even new Djay3 has more features (aside DVS) than any other djing software and runs in iPhone5s (not full level of course but dawn!)

My gut points me to these developers (Ableton, NI, Serato...) want a mobile free OS platform instead a iPhone enlarged one so maybe iOS13 could introduce two lines definetly. It’s not trivial issue and less now Apple is strggling with Asia market.
If we think twice this can point why some brands directly embraced the standalone plus x86 as complement (instead iOS) like Akai or Pioneer. It’s an interesting landscape for sure... once again I choose keep me outdated and go for the late2012 macs with tested software instead try to catch the wave and struggle for power/crackles.
    Maybe them think similar...

Getting something to run on another platform is an interesting technical proof-of-concept. But it is light-years removed from offering a user experience that anyone would actually care for. Running live on an iPad would require a pretty fundamental redesign of the application to make it any sort of fun. Which is a lot more involved than just porting a bunch of code :)

I really really really hope that Apple are smart and keep the iOS world separate from the MacOS world. I know Steve would have.

I’m agree ATM but it also opens the door to release apps in macstore at higher prices, one of the usual rants issues iOS developer have. I think it thirth after reading this.

    https://www.theverge.com/2018/6/7/17438450/apple-marzipan-mac-ios-apps-port-mojave-appkit-uikit-future-platform-software

I can imagine more developers going the Stagelight-like route. In fact Ableton should look into this since the not so post-pc era but paradigm shift for sure we live in, app development and (new) users are (mainly) on iOS (don’t count angry people like me or full time professionals who can’t choose until Photoshop prove them it’s better on iPad pro than their macs).

It seems Apple wants to keep iOS/macOS separated (almost a bunch of years) but also make that bold part in your comment reliable. I’m talking wider than Ableton since this an interesting field which reveals a deeper issue than users could understand at first looking.

    Thanks for join in @brambos

  • maybe it would be similar to touchable

    Touchable+Modstep+Samplebot = iAbleton.

    Maybe it’s happening ATM...

Things will be different from the day all Macbooks have a touch screen by default.

some strange curse has befallen all of the apps that come close hmmmm :(

I had discussion with dev of this app after i bought it and then it dissapeared from appstore so i was wondering what happened and wrote him e-mail.. it was few years ago.. he told me that he put it off the appstore because there were some bugs which he first wanted to fix .. but looks like he never put it back - hard to say why, because that app was really really cool..

yeah this is disappointing as this is one of the most talented iOS devs around, just seems like it couldn't get it's footing right but this dev is a freaking genius..
