Yep, I tried again and everything is fine here. There must be a misunderstanding somewhere...

    Now I'm really confused ;)

I’ve tried it too with LFOs, Cutoff, etc and it works while holding a key and also while the note is in Hold mode. Are you using SM1?

@Dawdles is right, you can not change some discrete parameters when a note is playing:

    Osc waveform/wavetable type
    Subosc waveform type
    LFO waveform type
    Filter type

This limitation has always existed since the beginning of SynthMaster :)

I will think about some algorithms/patterns on how to fix that.

    ?? :/ ??

Could it be that you are trying this with an ARP preset? I can confirm what others say, with a non Arp preset , with Hold pressed you dont hear a change in sound when changing lets say the Osc waveform.

  • Thanks for the update @kv331audio_bulent !

Both the hold working while tweaking the mod matrix and a save button when in AUM have brought this back on to the table for me.

Great synth now I can use it in my workflow again.

Yes, I was trying with a ARP preset! Indeed, this is not the same behavior with non ARP presets
    Thank you

    Possible bug or user error?

Latch Arpeggiator, press one key to start the arpeggio, then press other keys randomly, previously latched keys seem to unlatch themselves at random? Can't figure out if it's a feature in some way? If so, what is its function and can I disable it?
    Thanks

It was a feature request to unlatch a key which is already latched when it's pressed again, so I implemented it that way. bug or feature

    Shouldn’t all synths have ‘fx’?

    Very nice..

Would be useful if there was a latch mode option for when the Arpeggiator is active where new chord/note completely replaces the previous latched chord/note. Maybe this exists already? Is there a pdf manual for SM1?

That doesn't exist for now. I will add that to the feature requests list. Thanks!

  • @kv331audio_bulent thanks for the update, much smoother in stand allone mode now!
However, older projects in BM3 with multiple instances fail to load since the update. It happens to several users on different iPad models...

  • @kv331audio_bulent great work on this update. Very happy to see a number of these new features and fixes. However, SM1 is still crashing in AUM and BM3 when attempting to expand to full screen. This crash is consistent and repeatable with every attempt. I on a brand new 12.9” running 11.4 with the latest SM1 update. Is there a fix for this in the works?

Once I get myself a new 12.9 inch iPad Pro, hopefuly will be able to fix it. Mine is a 1st gen iPad Pro and it works fine. EDIT: Just ordered!

  • Also, regarding the Auria crash issue I am waiting to hear from the devs. Same for Cubase freeze issue.

  • Is the patch store a thing now?

    Great :)

Yeah definitely some performance issues in the 12.9 pro and also with multiple instances. If I open the default patch on my Air 2 and the same on the Pro 12.9 the Air 2 has less cpu percentage in AUM. Seems the Pro is less efficient.

    Good question.

  • Definitely a good update. I was looking for a volume setting cause when I switch patches in standalone the volume reverts back to normal setting off app and pretty loud. Doesn’t do it in au. I find this with most iOS synths used in daws are the volume is super loud and have to turn mixer down to use. Small complaint I guess.

Great update no crashes so far!

Scrolling is still a bit excessive and erratic at times. Try these:

    1. Swipe slowly on the list -> scrolls a lot - not in proportion to the swipe's range/velocity.

    2. In the Browser, tap author BigTone Studios -> 30 presets get shortlisted. Scroll down the preset list to the last one (30th). Now, tap author BigTone Studios again to unselect it => presets list automatically scrolls all the way down to preset 407 - like it is a kinetic pending scroll action from the previous 30-list swipe that just got unleashed

Is it possible to use the iOS' default scrolling instead?

And also open door for modulation of cycling through wavetables and lfo types etc on pads/lead sounds, which would be great :)

A wavetable is by definition a sequence of waveforms and you modulate the index parameter to cycle through them.

We had a "dual" LFO in SynthMaster which lets you crossgrade between two waveforms but I didn't bring that over to SM1 since I wanted to keep things simple in SM1.

Not a pressing request or dealbreaker but would be amazing if the noise/sub osc could be used to instead play a sample, like Serum. Really opens things up for layered sound design in Serum and probably my favourite thing about that synth that sets it apart.

Also, I read an SM1 review and it mentions Macros? I couldn't spot them in brief explorations so far. Are they there on the ipad port? A manual would be really useful... Lots of questions flying around without one.

Adding sample playback support is trivial, it's more of a business question rather than a technical one. We're gonna release SynthMaster iOS next year so still undecided about leaving that feature to SynthMaster or add that to SM1 as well.

There are no macro controls in SM1. I didn't finish up the user manual yet sorry about that. But the videos I prepared explain most of the fundamental stuff.
