I can‘t get this to control other stuff via MIDI in AUM ... I always have to use it as an Audiobus port ... is there no way to directly use it as an Audio Unit Extension?

No, it does not have an AUv3 plugin yet. I'm going to make one though, and it will be a free update!
Also, submitted a new version that fixes some bugs/crashes and adds some cool features like double tapping knobs to presenting a picker view. Also, you can send feedbacks or rate the app directly from the settings menu (in home screen).

Great! This is what I was waiting to hear. Was going to buy, but thought if you were going to make a separate AU version, I'd just wait for that one. Will likely go ahead and grab this one then. Looks fun. :)

  • I already bought it. I am here to help you kill the remaining bugs @cem_olcay .
Maybe making this thing solid before taking it AU would be wise, but that is just an assumption I hold.

Anyway, hit me up if you need something tested, or help in any way. I will report anything funky back to you that I come across.

  • Just trying this out, and like that it is that rarest of things, something a bit different. A few things need adjusting, but the dev seems keen, and at a couple of quid this is well worth a punt. :)

  • Contrast improved on settings, but it is still white on grey. Why make life difficult. :)

Gate Time is an interesting function, though

Hi Zen, I think in your iOS system settings, you enabled the "reduce transparency" setting.
You can find it in Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Increase Contrast -> Reduce Transparency
When you disable it, you should able to see your project settings menu background as in app store screenshots.

I’d never gone near that setting before, so can only assume an Apple tech did this when servicing the iPad. Now switched off, I can confirm that all is well. :)

Looking forward to seeing how you develop this app!

  • Did this update twice in one day? Holy moly. B)

  • edited June 2018

So far, I released an update for a day or two. But update reviewing process varies 1 or 2 days as well. It's quite possible releasing two updates in a day in that terms :) Man, I remember the days when these things took a full week long or even more. Apple did a great job with reducing the review times in the last couple of years.

BTW, I added the "Gate Time" property to interval sequencer as you guys suggested earlier.
And, you can double tap the knobs to present a picker view if you want to select your options more precisely.

    Sweet! Thank you!

  • @cem_olcay So awesome! Thank you! :)

The new updates have made this app a lot more fun. Thanks!

  • Has this app got any little tricks that Quantum does not?

  • I’m blown away by the interactions with devs on this forum! @cem_olcay : your responsiveness on here has been fabulous! What started as a new app with a few problems continues to blossom into a FINE and useful app. Thank you!

Quantum is a great sequencer app, it's a pro app with music theory engine and such. However, that's where ArpBud differs from any other sequencer app in the market. It is super simple. You can add as many sequencer steps as you want. It's more like a sketching app than a live-using app. Of course, you can use your ArpBud projects for driving your live setup (software/hardware) on the stage as well. Also, its interval and pitch sequencer design is one of a kind, even hardware sequencers haven't one yet. It's not $10, so pretty much everyone can buy it, from students, hobbyists to pros. If you haven't convinced yet, it has a lot of MIT licensed open-source components so that you can build your own ArpBud :) I'm also sharing this app's full source code with AudioKit developers. Literally, you can copy it and make a better version and either sell it on App Store, or contribute to the code for making it better :)

Oh, I had already bought it back when you said AU
I just wanted to make sure I fully understood the app.
Thank you for the full response and thank you for sharing your code! That is a classy move.
    Good luck with it!

Just bought this an hour or so ago. Seems slightly buggy, but no show stopper. Didn't find the interface instantly intuitive, but after about the 4th or 5th mess around, I figured out what was going on. The new Gate feature doesn't show up if the iPad is in horizontal orientation.

This is actually pretty cool, and very useful for coming up with some very interesting patterns. Easy to use once you figure out the basics.

Sweet buy at $2. With a bit more tweaking, and when it gets AU... this should sell for more IMO.

Thanks! Are you sure you're on v1.3? It's released just a couple of hours ago, and it sometimes takes about 24hrs to show up on every App Store worldwide. If so, please let me know after the update kicks in :)

  • @skiphunt Be sure you forward any weirdness to the dev. He is on fire in the bug squashing department, and keeps adding suggested features. This app has changed quite a bit since it launched, like, last week.

  • @cem_olcay I can't tell which version it is... I just bought it a couple hours ago, but I dont' see where there's a version number.

@CracklePot I've noticed the dev being on the case and it's part of why I bought it. Didn't think I needed another one like this, especially since Quantum does pretty much everything.

That being said, ArpBud is VERY easy to use and get to interesting patterns quickly. It's interface is also a pleasure to use.

I'll report any confirmed bugs of course, but I wanted to make sure that they aren't user error first. For example, I didn't know you can have a different number of steps per pitch node, I thought some of my steps were disappearing. I also didn't know at first you can dial in each sequence for each pitch separately.

The only bugginess for sure so far is the Gate button not showing up in landscape orientation, and midi connections not updating in the interface after I've quit and switched to another synth. I have to quit ArpBud and relaunch to see the new connection.

I'll look out for updates. So far, I'm happy I bought it! :)

Good one. This will be tomorrow's fix :)

You can check it out from the app store page of ArpBud (in your iOS device's App Store):

Also, in tomorrow's fix, I should be better add the current version of the app to the bottom of settings menu..

  • Any Videos?

Bought it... but... a Video will be nice..

There is a 30sec app preview video on iOS app store page of the app, but not any youtube videos yet.

BTW, v1.3.1 released with fixes. MIDI setup changes are showing up on project settings menu, no need to reopening the app. Sorry, I missed this one in v1.0  Also, I added the current version to the bottom of the settings menu, which you go from the home screen.

    Cool...

  • @cem_olcay: Will you be adding the ability to insert this as a MIDI effect in AB3?

  • @Howard said:

Yeah, that's a good idea. MIDI Filtering could be work like, sequencing active Interval Sequencer with incoming MIDI notes. Like how it's working with your MIDI keyboard in the current version. That's the idea, right?

  • Yes. It would be great, Cem, if we could set it as an EFFECT rather than an INPUT on the MIDI tab inside of Audiobus so this way we can use AB3 to control the input a little better.

Also, is there a plan to include RATE setting for the Interval Sequencer? I see we can do that in the Pitch Sequencer and would love it if we could set it also in the Interval Sequencer.

I'm working on AB MIDI Filter feature now, I probably will upload a new version tonight which will be available tomorrow.

For interval sequener rate, I did try that but it didn't work. It messed up the sequencer sync calculations and ableton link sync. So I just add it to the pitch sequencer which is working fine without a huge mess :)

  • I look forward to the new AB MIDI Filter feature. Thanks, Cem!

As far as the rate, I understand that different rates would make it harder to manage. I am sure it is more complicated having each step have their own rate. Did you try just allow us to set all the steps to the same rate rather than each step having a different rate? Being able to set all the steps to 1/8, 1/16 etc and dotted notes would be a great improvement to just straight 1/4 notes.
