I’m sure no one would fault you for claiming a refund and then asking all the DAW developers for promo codes to test your app...

    It's already universal :)

You have enter "SpaceCraft:" with the colon in order for it to show up doing an app store search

  • I'm just doing a new build without that colon in the title. Thanks for drawing my attention to that @gkillmaster

Also, I believe the current limit is 2 minutes.

    HOT TIP
I was able to record 7 minutes of continuous output from Spacecraft by using AUM file recorder. It loads in the FX slot, either IAA or AU.

Are there any AU usage scenarios that put it full screen ?

    I use garageband to record

    I will get AUM

Here is full screen in AUM. You only get one player at a time.

Yeah the AU is pretty useful in apeMatrix once you figure out the workarounds, you can save the LFO assigments.
You can record into it by pointing a source of audio at it. The AU gui unfreezes after you've recorded the audio and you can takeover the LFO controls with your fingers and they snap back to LFO control too. :)

Makes a great beat mangler etc.

This is great news! Just getting into apeMatrix a lot this weekend, so me happy! :)

It's available for ipad and iphone now, but the best experience is on the ipad as you can see and play both grain engines (blue and pink) simultaneously.

It actually works really well on the phone - the controls are still usable, and it’s easy to switch between grain engines.

That's surprising, I just got AUM (which looks amazing) and put dubfilter in the instrument slot and spacecraft in the effects slot, then when I went to open Spacecraft it went full screen (i.e. the file loading and saving works normally). I didn't know this was possible.

It only works full screen when used as an IAA, when I choose AU effect it goes into the window. But this means AUM can replace garageband for me at least.

So guys, what is the main advantage of using AU over AAI in something like AUM?

(and I recognise that it's a ridiculous question from a guy who just made an iOS music app)

Here’s a discussion about AU that might be of interest: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/23242/water-will-flow-my-thoughts-on-au/p1

Statesaving and built in syncing is the most important thing really, no statesaving in IAA, as a bonus multiple instances in AU too.

Here is a concise summary from the apeMatrix manual that I thought was quite good.

AUM is the most awesome iOS app ever! Also audioshare is the sister app which handles the recorded audio files.

O sure, and to say that I'm so thrilled for you in your success with this great app! Looking forward to its future!

  • @gusgranite thanks for that, interesting.

I obviously need to put a bit of thought into this but I think that the fastest way for me to get to AU compatibility might be something like:

    1. fix the fact that file load/save is broken when Spacecraft is not full screen: the fastest way to get this working I expect would be to be able to force Spacecraft to be fullscreen. Question for you guys: would an always fullscreen Spacecraft be a deal-breaker for you or is that acceptable
    2. get tempo sync working properly (needs to be optionally enabled)
    3. fix the parameters that are available via AU to stop from crashing (some of those shouldn't even be modifyable parameters, I was a bit lazy there) and make the ones that are useful (i.e. all the pad xy axes) to be clearly identifiable
    4. re-enable midi input which is currently nerfed
    5. ??

The hardest of all of these might be 1. as it requires Spacecraft knowing about the outside environment etc. I'll talk to some people who actually know about this (some names were mentioned, and I'll get in touch with JUCE guys).

For me AU is just more stable and less headache, as a matter of fact I think that in the near future IAA would not be supported at all on iOS .

  • @Carnbot I'll look into state-saving aspect

  • If I could suggest number 5 in your list it would be a proper naming of the midi controlable paramters...
It would make modulation a lot easier.
    Please :)

@Dawdles, when I say full screen I don't mean this (where file saving/loading is broken)...

I mean fully full screen such that the file load/save is working in Spacecraft (like when you load as an AAI).

So my question is if I could get the AU forced to fully fullscreen would that be acceptable for you guys? At least then file load/save would work when used as an AU

  • edited June 2018

Main advantage with au is you can have more instances, at the same time
And second that, in apematrix you can controll the parameters with lfo

  • I noticed that also tardigrain has problems in apematrix with user presets, so it could be a apesoft problem also

  • edited June 2018

That's great guys, thanks for your input, I'll skim over the rest of the thread and go away and have a think about it.

Now I'm past the minimum viable product phase so I can justify putting some effort into advanced features :)

Sorry, I am dumb. How does full screen tie in with file load/save? Are they dependent on each other somehow?

@CracklePot It's because when you load or save a file spacecraft uses the native iOS files app. If spacecraft is inside another gui the native window can't load. So options are probably either a. Force spacecraft to full screen or b. Create my own file chooser window internally to spacecraft.

  • So @Dawdles if I get you right you are saying that totally full screen would not be suitable for you?

Ahhhhh, I am enlightened. Thank you, feels good! :)
