With all the bits in place - AU support fixed, tempo sync, link, Audioshare ‘open in’ support etc. this is easily a £10 app. Even I’d pay that, and I’m as tight as a falcons sphincter in a power dive.
I’m doing that too - recording into AUM and exporting to the desktop, or just taking a lead out and recording live straight into Reason.
Much prefer this to my desktop sample manglers.
The advantage of VST is the internal sample rate, larger polyphony and more features, a huge majority of users value this and the VST version will be used in a lot of studios.
Desktop samplers have better audio results, you can push samples much further if recorded at high sample rates.

Yeah, it’s an app that got off to a flying start, and sidestepped the usual complaints like Messi on a good day, because of the things it got right. With a bit more development, SpaceCraft can become the king of granular apps. Happy to contribute to that, with input and via IAPs.
Its great you are using it that way! and i will too but for me I prefer using higher sample rates to get a smoother more dynamic sound. Sound quality makes the difference sometimes between someone listening to a track once or maybe a thousand times. I definitely prefer using the touch pad though!!! :-)
Same here - I just connect a lead from the headphone socket straight into the desktop mic port. Sounds absolutely fine. I'm sure I can get a better sound from high res desktop stuff, but considering my sample source, end product (compressed versions on Soundcloud and the like), and the fact I mangle the bejeezus out of everything, I'm happy to make the compromise. When I use desktop VST's with the mouse, there's a compromise in playability, so it's swings and roundabouts.
It's apps and devs like this that give me hope for the sustainability of iOS platform for making music. Back of the net!
I watched some vids of this, then checked the App Store. 3 dollars. Seriously? I used to wonder how sustainable iOS was for music-making developers but, apparently, no worries. The platform just attracts creative programmers who don’t need to make much money, if any. Many lose interest in an app after a time, but there’s always another couple-a-bucks one coming down the pike to play with. I think that’s the sustainability of it.
Bought it because of the low price. At the current state imo it’s more than fair

After playing and enjoyed an hour jam some feature requests (beside stabilizing
Optional pitch tracking. The ‘problem’ with all similar apps is it’s hard to pitch them correctly. If there was an option to track the pitch (cpu light!) and auto pitch the sample it would be awesome .
Congratulations to the dev
Routing random Streemur stations into this and then mixing and matching various effects in apeMatrix threatened my homeward commute today.
This is a "missed your station" app.
+1 in particular for the double tap XY to reset thing, that would be handy.
The pitch bend control could have an option where it moves back to center when you release your finger, maybe set a motion rate.
Seems to be a limitation of the Files App.
But, Spacecraft supports split screen/slide over. With Spacecraft open and in the Foreground, pull up the dock. Drag your AudioShare icon up out of the dock, drag it to the far right screen edge and drop it. Now you can conveniently browse your samples, sort of all on one Screen with the Spacecraft app.
(You probably know the split screen technique, how to do it. I just put instructions for those who don’t realize this is possible.)
thanks CracklePot
Regarding price, keep in mind a similar nifty granular app Soup Granular was released about a week before this one at $10 and barely made a blip on this forum. Both look pretty interesting but price is why I bought one and not the other. Im not arguing about the worth of the app but sometimes 1/3 price can sell 10x the units.
There's a new update with the AU parameters issues addressed and some minor changes that's just gone into beta. Anybody interested in joining beta feel free to email me. And massive thank you to those of you that have offered!
In case any of you are interested, the release immediately after that will remove this 120s constraint on the file saving; this is high priority as it impacts the usability of the standalone app. That was in place as I was terrified of the app not starting if a user didn't have enough memory. The workaround is to give the option of the file saving duration in settings and a warning that if you choose more time than your memory can cash, SpaceCraft will shut down.
I'm really happy that I went with my instincts regarding the price !
Awesome, I’m off to give it a go
That is a major fault of the app as it stands. Once you touch that screen, it's very difficult to get back in tune. And yet snapping back to the starting point is not a very musical approach either.
As an IAA effect in AUM, it's working perfectly with access to both granular sections and smooth sample importing from Audioshare via the iPad filing system. Loading in old random synth sounds, one shots and sequences to produce very nice evolving pad and atmos sounds by careful scrubbing over the sample file, which I'm recording in AUM and into Audioshare. From there I'm chopping out sections and importing them into Vancouver Gadget, Synthscaper and BM3 for layering up into lovely spacey intricate evolving and most importantly playable melodic pads and atmos. It's breathing new life and use into my old random files of sounds. Really loving Spacecraft. Thank you for a wonderful app!
@Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr and @Korakios , I agree. Double tap to default is a great idea, it's probably really easy to implement, and wont in any way impact the look and feel of the interface so (provided it is really quick to implement) it's going in! (probably in the release after the current one in beta)
This is brilliant, I love it. I hope the dev puts up some kind of pro IAP cause I feel like it’s a steal at this price. Maybe it’s not something I say often but I wish I could pay more for such an inspired first version.
another fun idea, not sure if it’s possible, but it would be cool if you could have the option to flip the playhead horizontaly. this way you could play through the grains. horizontally. (think borderlands) just an idea.
@pedro I hate saying this but there's a 'nae pressure' donate button on the 'about' page of my website. Please don't donate with any particular expectations in mind tho, I can't promise anything in particular (you never know how difficult something will be until you actually try to do it).
I'm not relying on donations for any of this, so 'nae pressure'.
@eross borderlands is absolute genius. The way you can move the samples around is totally inspired. A wonderful thing about granular synthesis is that it's so versatile and powerful you can have lots of different 'experiences' of it. I'm proud to contribute to the particular granular niche I'm in with Spacecraft!
