Looking forward to this update @midiSequencer ,thanks! Note input via external midi will be really convenient, reminiscent of working on Elektron boxes :) Quantum’s such a killer sequencer. If it ever goes AU it’ll be game over ;)

Out of curiosity what would an AU version of Quantum give you? It already allows you to route n# Midi channels on a per channel basis. Are you running out of channels to sequence in the stand alone version?

Or are you asking for it to host AU synths and fx directly in the app so it’s like modstep stype of sequencer?

I will concede that if you save your Quantum sessions with the same name as your BM3 / AUM projects so you can pick up where you left off then AU becomes less critical. However, AU would still be more convenient as it would just pick up where you left off regardless. And why stop at 6 sequencer channels when you have 30 lol...

Yep, way more convenient just dealing with one project/save and snapping straight back to where you left off. Automation is generally much less hassle to set up etc too.

Forgot about automation. That’s a big one.

  • Quantum has its own automation too - not just midi learn via cc, but a full nrpn.
For me, if Quantum was to go AU it would be more like MidiSequencer - single sequence but with a lot of options per step.

AudioUnit also gives the best jitter free experience as you are using Apple's best clock. I'm currently looking at replacing Quantum clock with a sample accurate one as IOS 11 has a nasty bug on older devices (A7s) thats causing the jitter when you use springboard (the home button).

  • Quantum update should be available for you all now. Let me know what you think!
Tie'd notes didn't quite make it - will be there next update.

I was thinking of suggesting making MidiSequencer an AU. That app is too robust to let die. I still use it for situations where I just need the single sequencer, but I can see that there is probably no point in developing it further since Quantum is the focus now.

An AU version MidiSequencer would be a lighter, modular Quantum in my mind. It would be an excellent addition to the evolving AU Midi toolset. Those AU MidiFX you are working are going to be awesome additions to this toolset, as well.

It is all really exciting to think about. First up, Quantum update! B)

Not here yet.... was looking forward to tied notes... well, custom scales will be enough to carry me through... Thanks for all your hard work...

  • Just hit the App Store......

  • Confirmed - just updated here in California

  • Just updated and checked out the new features.
This update is pretty major. There are some really great new features.
@midiSequencer Thank you for the hard work you put in to make this incredibly deep and solid sequencer even better. It is one of the greatest music apps on the AppStore. Simply amazing. (Simply? Lol)

yeah sorry - its on my list for the next update. I'm thinking of using the mute/skip buttons to be mute/skip or tie but of course there is more to it than just a button!

thx - be sure to check out the RT button - I use this a lot to tweak synths during a sequence playback.

  • Now i can get rid of phaedra

  • just got lost in it again. thanks alot for the update!

I'm not sure why the preference to go single sequencer if AU? For drums and layered melodies especially id probably rather have multiple sequences in one UI, like Quantum. Otherwise for me personally it'll often be equally as clunky as using an IAA instance, too much view switching... Just in a different way.

You could still use the full app when you need all that. But, for me anyway, the full 6(24) sequence monster that is Quantum would be overkill in an AU window. That said, if it was more like MidiSequencer in scope but retained the ABCD sequence sections from Quantum, that'd be epic. And it would cover at least some of the stuff you're talking about.

  • This app is amazing. Thanks for the update!

  • Midi Export is amazing ....

    Thank you..

  • Looks great, looking forward to putting it through some pacez

  • This is one deep sequencer. It’s going to take much time playing around with it before I can even think about what it doesn’t do.

Its based on the idea that you want as many parameters & tweaks on a single note that is possible - not just pitch/vel/channel/duration, but humanise(pitch &/or vel variation), conditional play/skip, length (as tempo divisions or ornamentations like ratchets), counterpoint (copy/paste either groups of notes or sequences), pitch conformance (customised semitone scales), pitch inversion/reflection, polyrhythms, midi fx(like echo)

Add to this cycle mode (make changes happen only when a sequence loops), loop actions (do things like load another sequence, change start/end points, transpose etc), sub-sequence parts (that can be linked), cc controllers, mixing, control output to automate faders, nrpn automation, etc.

    There's stuff even I don't use yet.

I’ve had Quantum for awhile and use it on a fairly superficial level. I get easily distracted when exploring, and to get my head around this sequencer and how I might want to make music with it, I’ll need to really dig in and figure out more of what’s possible. I read the manual at one time, but as I remember, not all of the features were covered. I’ll go through it again, as I’m jazzed to get seriously into this exciting app.

  • @lovadamusic For me, the in-app help that pops up info on a UI element when you touch it, that really helped me get my bearings. I used that and focused on one section of the UI at a time while exploring.

I think you can read up on some of the missing info from the Quantum Manual by looking at the really fat MidiSequencer Manual, as the two apps are very similar. It helped me, that thick tome.

Thanks, CracklePot! I hadn't thought to check the MidiSequencer manual. Over 90 lovely pages! :)

  • Hope to push out an update to the Quantum manual soon, but yes its smaller than Midisequencer one despite it having all of MidiSequencer functionality & more.

  • @midiSequencer Thanks for the update/reskin and congrats! What would you suggest as a good video tut/overview at this point in history for us boys at the back of the class who are finally keen to learn?
