Yeah I like the mood you’ve got going on here. For some reason I see myself driving at night along a quiet mountain road while listening to this, although not quite sure where that image is coming from since now that I think about it doesn’t quite match the feel of the track. Funny what music can do to you. And it says something that your music did that to me. So yeah, nicely done!
Deep Disco mix is my favorite. Not sure who the girl is singing but dang I could listen to her all freaking day. 😎 Sultry and various other possibly inappropriate adjectives lol. Oh your mixes, sorry got sidetracked. Both are really good but as I said I liked the Deep Disco one better, seemed a better fit for the song, but maybe that’s just where my taste lies. Good stuff on both!
Thank u!
Nice funky groove and interesting rhythms. And I appreciate the subtle changes that keep things interesting and the listener engaged. Good work on this track!
Really really interesting sounds in this track, some great choices made there. If you don’t mind, I would offer a small bit of well-intentioned constructive criticism. Like I said, the choice of sounds were great and interesting; however I felt there could have been more variety in the way they were used over the course of 8+ minutes. What I mean is changing up the patterns that are used for the various sounds at different points throughout the track. You can create a “structure” based simply around changing patterns, which will keep the listener interested without changing much else (you’ve got a great foundation here). Not sure if that makes sense, I can explain more what I mean if needed. Anyway other than that suggestion I really enjoyed what you put together, some really cool stuff in there!
I’ve been through them all an did notice there’s nothing ‘wrong’ with any. As a beginner I find that intesting, I’d expect some ‘oooh that’s so bad’ but everything is really well put together, so well done everyone.
Rather than comment on everything here’s a cherry pick:
@dedko surely you’ve ripped this direct from an Ibiza Anthems album? I expect it’ll be on one soon.
@theconnactic not my genre but think it’s a perfect example of the genre.
@trackedout I like the idea and structure but soundwise everything sounded in the same place/level as the guitar. Said better by other but yeah, rather than hearing everything stand alone it’s a grainy muddle in the middle ground of my ears which is a shame because everything the instruments are doing I really like, just wish they were clearer. Brilliant as a song though.
@crouchie and @erokone are smashing it in the 80s room. Really nailed the tracks.
@icsleepers Loved it! Agree it’s too short and was gutted when it ended. Maybe long form AB part writing would help? Long as in this could be part A. Would love to hear more of it.
@studs1966 Kills it everytime. Only thing from my is personal preference for the House version. “I ain’t dancing to this....” two head nods and a few foot taps later I’m giving it large on the dance floor. Pro tunes mate.
@JanKun I love when music puts a picture in my mind and this really hit the scene in a film where there’s the ‘dramatic slow motion dancing’ scene. Usually two girls back to back for some reason. Really really good.
@fattigman great, great vocals and playing I haven’t heard any (nearly) unplugged on here and it was refreshing.
Thanks for letting me join in guys
This is a very well done track! Nice job on the mix and vocals as well. I like how you ended just with the vocals, a nice touch. My only complaint was that it was too short!
@edb @obijohn @studs1966 @desk hey guys I highly appreciate your input on this high driven track. And I absolutely agree with everything you guys are saying... I think in a mix you definitely show your emotions and this mix was a good example of how I felt in the moment.. But it's what this song is... it might b too much for u guys but that s good to know for future mixes. Thank u guys I appreciate u
Great rendition of this classic song. It had a refined quality that I wasn’t expecting and was a nice surprise. Very enjoyable listening! Now excuse me while I go dust off some Marley CDs and curl up for a while...
Thanks, my goal was to not make it too long and to keep it interesting. So mission accomplished
Good job on your first ever track! So here’s some honest feedback. What I’m personally looking for in a remix is something that changes the original in some fundamental way, even if it means changing the feel, while still keeping the original recognizable within the remix somewhere. You’ve captured the original feel of the song but honestly almost too much, so it’s more of a cover than a remix. Don’t get me wrong, that’s fine to aim for on your first track, and you did a great job in that regard. I just wanted to provide some feedback on things to consider for your next one if you’re going to be working on remixes. Don’t be afraid to take chances! And don’t be afraid of putting your own personality firmly into the mix. That’s what will make it your own.
Alrighty then, I think I've given feedback on everyone's tracks (I'll double check and make sure I haven't missed anyone). Here's my entry this month.
I'm not sure where this ditty came from, especially considering all the trauma at home right now with my wife recovering from major surgery. You'd think something dark and brooding would come out of my creative juices, but instead it's light-hearted and fun and not what I set out to do. Weird how that works sometimes.
The organ-ishy pad is a Sunrizer patch I threw together for this track. Moog Model D for the bass, and Zeeon and Poison-202 fill out the rest. Drums are from Auria's Lyra sampler as usual these days. All sequenced in SunVox, recorded/mixed/mastered in Auria.
Private SC link because I may be reworking this again at some point. The embedded player doesn't like private links apparently, sorry about that.

@theconnactic I will honestly say I preferred your trip-hop direction but it's a solid performance with a good vocal. The track isn't actually all that heavy for metal, the vocal is fairly restrained for the genre IMO (and that's not a bad thing in my book).
Good guitar playing as usual, one part of the solo reminded me of the solo in Hotel California, just faster.
@trackedout I'm sure your tracks are getting more fizzy in the high-end every month - I really think they could benefit from being a little more balanced tonally: a bit more bass and a less aggressive high-end, your recent mixes can be quite fatiguing to listen to.
Production issues aside there is a decent song in there, I like the vocal melody and the lead guitar, but the mix makes it hard to really enjoy.
@obijohn it’s funny because I’ve never heard the original and chose it as a raw accapella.
Idk if that’s good or bad..
@crouchie first of all the vocal level is fine, but just It could actually be a tad louder but this is probably already uncomfortably loud for you I'm guessing.
The track has a very disjointed feel, especially the groove that is super jerky and unsettling, obviously deliberate so this isn't intended as a criticism. The sounds themselves also follow with this vibe, everything is unsettling and jarring, it's not going to climb high in the easy listening charts. Some of the harsher bleepy synths have some cool sound design, with the filter almost singing.
I would maybe have liked to hear a softer section somewhere for contrast and for a bit of relief, light and shade, because the six minutes did feel quite unrelenting, and my old ears do prefer a more soothing sound.
Wow, ok well that's impressive. I went back and re-listened to the original and you ended up with something that matches very closely (especially the percussion). Anyway, as I said good job on your first track. Keep doing more!
Thx @obijohn both for the encouragement and for making me aware I should check the original, at min to check it’s not too close.
I've created a short instrumental that I want to share this month.
Wow, I feel bad calling this a song, this is a **COMPOSITION ** ! Damn, I was lost in my headphones listening to the swirling melodies and the excellent lower register counterpoints, pickups and callbacks to the motifs that were laid out. Very cool swirling effect and aside from the reverb I don’t hear any spatializer or stereo widening (could be wrong, if so it’s not over done or obvious).
Okay now a caveat: I’ve said it my musician friends here locally in Vegas & those I’ve known and met online that it can be sticky telling someone “Hey that would sound great as a piece of music in a film, video game, etc.” I don’t want anyone being offended that the music they made for the express purpose of being a stand alone piece of musical art is being trivialized by suggesting it could be licensed music in said entertainment fields.
But I say it in the highest regard & respect and especially in the case of this track. I can see this being used in animation or film/TV easy, but man, an album of instrumental pieces like this sequenced properly for dips & rises would be great too. Very cool...
By no means have I listened to every entry this month, but a few have stuck out as notable to me.
@crouchie The Last King of England - very well done.
@Eriko Crimson - I probably would have faded out at the 2:34 mark, but I've also been known not to
@JanKun Eternitie - The driving rhythm and smooth vocals make this song great.
@fattigman Guiltiness - Well done. Most people are eating lunch at 12:20pm, you're making music! I would love to hear this with a backing rhythm section.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this corner. Thanks to Richard for making it all possible. I expect to be back before too long.
I like the dissonance that comes in about 0:45 and gradually takes over the track. I wanted to hear more of where that could go but the track ended too soon! That was actually pretty creative, blending those two very different elements and I appreciate what you did there. I would encourage you to experiment more with that kind of thing and see where it can take you.
Thanks so much for this encouraging feedback! Regarding the (non)use of stereo expanders or similar FX, you’re right, I try to avoid them. For my tastes, I find that very gentle use of a synth’s built-in phaser, if it has one, is more effective in giving a feeling of space than slapping a big spatializer on the master bus which tends to muddy things up more than it helps IMO.
Oh, and I take no offense at all from someone saying “this could be in a soundtrack”, I do take it as a huge compliment. So thanks for that! Now if you happen to know a Netflix producer, I’ll be checking my inbox for PMs...
@obijohn Thanks! I cannot deny that this is piece that can use a lot more polish. The two different elements contributed to the track name. One that is likely very familiar to many (earth) and the other that seems to explore some distant place (mars)... ( it truly has nothing to do with Mars retrograde occurring right now )
@crouchie Absolutely crushed it man. Gave me shivers. Fucking awesome work.
@Bartlinux I appreciate the creativity and the mix seems solid. However, 8 minutes and no melody is not enough to keep me engaged.
@JanKun Great voice, reminds me of Radio Head. You added some variability to the drums but I think some fills would add a lot to the track.
@studs1966 Always love what you are throwing down man. Quality shit. Dat Bass line on the disco mix tho... so funky.
@fattigman Really great cover. I personally don't think you need so much reverb, you have a great voice no need to drown it.
Really kind of u and v much appreciated. Wasn’t sure if it had gone down v well but those are v kind words, cheers
@Eriko
Blast from the past! Loving the old skool kit, bass and fm going on there. This is a pleasure to listen to... sounds like a live set? Where you jamming this on the fly, cause it sounds really natural. Great work!!
@Bartlinux
Er... I had no idea what's going on and then "snap!" it made sense! Some kind of industrial, organo-mechanic electro-punk? It's a long ride and grows well, though repetitive. Needs some breakdowns, cut out some sounds, bring in others. solid piece of work and with a bit of structure, it'll work so well.
@JanKun
Oh man! Proper dreamy track right here! Désolé, je ne parle pas français. Gorgeous soundscape and lovely build and drops. Very smooth!
@fattigman
Honestly, not my kind of genre - despite that I caught myself bopping to the groove! Good expression, groove and swing.
@EDB
I haven't heard the original, so I don't know what it's supposed to sound like. Your track is tight, got a good structure. Great attempt for a first start and for sure, I want to hear more of what you got
@obijohn
Harpsichord chamber music meets synthwave? It feels like a digital sunny, summer's day!
@DBecker
There's a big contrast between the sounds and instruments. Quite opposite and blended together very well. It's an interesting experiment and you pulled off the blend very well. Where will you take this next?
Hey guys, I know I'm pretty new here but just wanted to say. I am personally in a constant state of Aw of the people producing music on this forum. What percent of people do you think write music into their adult life? I would say less than 1% of people. You guys set aside time to craft something, to make something of your own, to put it out for others to listen to and get feedback and often when you work other jobs. You are truly warriors. This is the entire point of music. You guys are taking me to the next level with music and I'm super grateful. Peace.
@icsleepers your track achieves the feat of being both mellow and yet edgy at the same time, nicely done.
The sampled guitar is great, gives a nice bed for the other sounds, and there is a lot going on in there, lots of different sounds and textures, melodies, counter-melodies, really interesting and engaging to listen to. It's like a mash-up of Autechre with trip-hop, great stuff.
@studs1966 Good summer time vibes going on here, liking the disco mix as usual - top-notch production, the mix is excellent.
