@studs1966 Good summer time vibes going on here, liking the disco mix as usual - top-notch production, the mix is excellent.

Thanx Richard.... Very much appreciated.... ;)

  • @Eriko This one is straight from the old school, reminds me of many a night spent dancing in sweaty clubs in the early 90s. Could do with maybe a little more melodic interest as it's almost entirely based around the bass riff and the drums and pads. Mind you those early 90s tunes rarely had melodies either, some of them sound brutal now.

  • @JanKun I commented on this one in your introduction thread but I'm glad to have had another listen, because it's a terrific track, one of the best I've heard here - I would buy this in a heartbeat. The vocal is really good, both in the style and the delivery, I really love it. A blend of a more contemporary version of Noir Desir mixed with Radiohead.

  • @fattigman Lovely performance, and as always I love your voice. I would say I'm not a fan of the reverb though (and I hardly ever say that, I'm always slathering reverb on my tracks), but here it's too bright and echoey.

That's a very pro looking ukulele you have there BTW.

  • @EDB the acapella is great, I really like it. The breakbeat is a pretty weird juxtaposition with the smooth vocal, I found it a little relentless as it played over the duration of the track, I preferred the sections where it dropped out because I couldn't really get it to mesh with the vocal. Maybe some kind of wobble bass to go with the beat might help to marry it all together.

  • @obijohn This one is heavy on the classical influences, shades of Bach to it. Lots of melodies and counter-melodies and a pretty happy vibe. The main melody could maybe do with a little rhythmic and melodic variation to it because it does feel a bit too much like a scalar run to me. Could be an early 1970s synth experiment, it certainly has those classic sounds.

  • @DBecker The guitar riff is cool, and goes nicely with the bass. The track feels a bit like a fragment though, it could do with some more ideas and development because it kinda fizzles out at the end, which is a shame because the intro is strong.

Blast from the past! Loving the old skool kit, bass and fm going on there. This is a pleasure to listen to... sounds like a live set? Where you jamming this on the fly, cause it sounds really natural. Great work!!

Thanks! I use Aum to get a few sequences running (with Rozetta mostly and Patterning in IAA slot) then I record just one of the audiostreams while playing with the parameters. Then I drop the AU and sequence from that stream and replace it with the recorded audio. Then I move on to the next audiostream and start recording that one... rinse and repeat. So yeah it is kind of a live performance, but based around some preprogrammed sequences.

Thanks, goal achieved! I agree on the melodic interest though, and at the same time it is the groove itself that must be the main attraction. Hard to listen to this with a 90s ear, it all depends on the mood you are trying to conjure. Maybe you were easier to get lured into a groove in the nineties because of youthful hormones, or we weren’t as spoiled with quality music because of lacking experience. Hmm, anyway thanks :)

  • @studs1966 Thanks! As always very high quality from you. I like both versions.

@EDB thank you for your comments. I haven’t heard the original song. What I like about your version is the high energy drums together with the beautiful calm vocals. I would like to learn to program that kind of drums myself

  • @obijohn thanks for your comments. I think your track is very uplifting. I like all the sounds especially the one that enters at 1:40. The music also fits the cover art. Well done!

  • @DBecker thank you. The time was actually 4pm
I was home without the kids and the wife so I thought I just record something quickly and post it here because I haven’t posted anything for a long time. That’s why I didn’t do any bass or drums (and also partly because I suck at programming drums).

  • @DBecker That’s a cool intrumental song. For me when listening to instrumental song there needs to be something that makes me interested and curious. I think you did it. At around 0:40 the synth starts and it creates a very interesting sound that goes very well with the bass. Like it a lot!

  • Darren Studholm .(keep running disco mix)so smooth ,captured so well. Crouchie. great song!

  • I was also very impressed by Eternite by Shore disorder

  • @fattigman thanks for the compliment ;)
For the drums, if you look on YouTube for ‘Amen break sampling’ you’ll see the general technique - the software doesn’t matter it’s just a generic technique so any vid will give you an idea. Software such as Sector and Stockholm in Gadget can cut a lot of the workflow out and help tons

Here’s an example vid I grabbed but they’re all the same method.

    Editing amen breaks vid

  • Thank you @EDB I’ll check the video out

  • @shiftsynth1 thank you for your feedback. You’re right that was too much reverb on the vocals.

  • @dedko that’s a very good song you did. Very well produced and mixed. I would like vocals to that. Thanks for your feedback 😊

  • @richardyot thank you very much for feedback. You are right about the reverb, I’ll have less of that the next time.
I think I have identified your style now. I think I can listen to a song and tell if it’s a richardyot song. You have a emotional atmosphere in your songs. Also the vocals is very characteristic. The lyrics goes very well with the feeling of the song. If I would have change anything I would have a part that changes the feeling of the song. Maybe a some part that is lore instense and with more energi, I don’t know. To sum it up I think you did a good job and it’s a typical richardyot song.

  • Heyo, Heres mine for the month. Spent 2 weeks trying to come up with a lyrical chorus and I never got there. I'm still very happy with how it turned out.

  • @shiftsynth1 wow great song and great vocals. I like that there’s no lyrical chorus because it makes the verse more prominent. Arrangement also very good. What ios instruments did you use? Well done, this is this month’s best contribution.

Thanks man! Means a lot. I decided to learn Garage Band this month so the guitar, keys and Erhu were garage band touch instruments. I fucking love the Erhu on garage band, so much fun to solo on. The Arp is Moog Model 15, it always makes its way into my work for some reason haha.

I exported the individual tracks audio into Cubasis for mixing and effects since garage band isn't super user friendly in that department. Mastering was done in Grand Finale.

  • @shiftsynth1 thanks for the info, I definitely have to spend some time with garageband.

Nice track! I loved when the Model 15 came in, it added a cool layer that fit perfectly. I agree that you don’t really need a vocal chorus on this, it all “makes sense” as it is, if that, uh, makes sense.

My entry for the month, lyrics in the spoiler:

Sink in a sea of uncertainty
Drown in a pool of doubt
Reach for the shore that you knew before
Or wade in the shallows and shout

It's not that clear to you or me
We're both so lost and unhappy
We try to change each other's minds
But it's too late, to turn the tide

Drift in the swell of anxiety
Deep is the sea of distrust
Float on the ocean of trouble and poison
And face all your fear and disgust

It's not that clear to you or me
We're both so lost and unhappy
We try to change each other's minds
But it's too late, to turn the tide

So what's the score with you and I?
Do we give up and let it lie?
We try to save our hopes that died
But it's too late to turn the tide

Like it, particularly the synth sound that comes after the chorus. Thought your vocal was good on this one actually. A hint of pitch correction in the verse early on? All good mind. Some really nice pad sounds in there and I liked that drone that just carried on for a second at the end. Great stuff

My track for this month's entry:

Really good that! Contemporary feel and nice sounds. You do some really nice fills in there, something I can never really get the hang of 😔. Chuck a few vocal loops in there and you’ve got yourself a hit for the summer. Great stuff, well done.

This is my latest original song, a heavy metal (yes, isn’t that cool?) with darker tone and lyrics. Loud guitars, and a very fast solo near the end! For this kind of music, nothing better than the german classic silent movie “Faust” with the gorgeous Camila Horn. As usual, lyrics bellow. All recorded and mixed in Auria Pro using an Apogee One, a cheap strat knock-off, an equally cheap precision model bass, MXL mics and a Marshal JTM 30 with a Rat and a Boss delay. Enjoy!

Nicely done as always, but just not to my taste. Make the vocals a bit more shouty too 😉

You’ve definitely got ur own style. Actually I like that saturated, compressed feel, makes it intense and immediate. I’ve mentioned the Libertines in previous months. Like it a lot 😬

Okay so, short backstory. I tried my hand at getting into stock music a bit ago, I honestly just don't pump out stuff fast enough, plus, my stuff is just a little too niche. This track started its life on GarageBand as a Pond5 submission that was rejected. I REALLY liked the mood though and couldn't let it die, so I went back to the drawing board, cut everything up and put it into Auxy, added some stuff from Blocs Wave and as always ran the whole thing through Grand Finale.

Now with Sunrizer and Turnado being AUv3 compatible (crossing fingers for Effectrix!), plus the fact my Auxy subscription has ended and I don't see a great reason to re-up it currently, I'll be shifting over to GarageBand (which probably means a little less drum and bass and a little more of the alternative electronic I used to do).

Enough blabbering from me, enjoy! And @richardyot thank you so much for getting this in place each month I always look forward to it and hearing what you guys are cranking out

Love the squeaky noises the best, always a sucker for that. Really good, keeps to time and so has more impact. Looking forward to hearing what the change to GB brings. Great stuff.
