Yeah I miss Holderness being around. I'm not a huge fan of Crystalline, but it's good and the sound quality of all his apps are excellent. I'll second the Johnny being more versatile and sounding as good as any stompbox.
There are really no true (re: worthy) substitutes for the Holderness apps other than the delay.
Holderness and AUFX are all worth having. Stereo Designer is very good, and the AUFX delay and reverb are superb.
I have my head turned easily for the latest thing, so have used the Audio Damage stuff a lot recently, but the old guys still do the job, and with a much more accessible UI.
I do have to give credit where it’s due though, the AD stuff which I use (Eos and Dubstation) really does sound phenomenal. Unbelievable! (Same applies to FAC Chorus).
Different ‘voice’ to AUFX or Holderness, and a very welcome one!
I dropped the developer a line about this a use it a lot as a vst on Ambient work it’s the best in the business along with Eventide. However didn’t get a response.
It is a good candidate considering the pricing of the VST. Shame you didn’t get a response.
Yeah Dubstation is brilliant, and I put Discord on nearly everything these days.
That’s the thing, they’re all good, and each has its own character.
Buy them all, I say!
I actually had issues with Discord triggering the system level audio ducking (IE no audio until reboot) pressing 'play' in an AUM session with Discord loaded. Cool app but that stopped me getting any deeper.
Was gonna put it on the Quanta/Safari issue, but already put a Fuzz 3 issue there.
I’ll slot this info in here:
—————
I had to get a refund for Eos 2 in January, as when I loaded it in Aux of BM3 it froze/crash my iPad after a short play with it.
Never had that happen before, or since.
It was just a black screen, had to hold both the power switch and home button together to turn iPad off. (Scary issue)
Again, felt like it was an isolated case. (again = FuzzPlus 3)
Didn’t send an email this time, as no reply to the Fuzz issue.
Straight refund!

But still like some of AD stuff!
My fav from them is Replicant 2 (I likes me some creative apps)

But, as I mentioned my stereo app is “Stereo Designer” tried the rest, and to me it’s the best. Pitty it’s not on my iPad. I have both versions iPad and iPhone, but an effect like this is needed for any individual track, it would just wind me up, knowing that it’s limited. (Of course it can be used on a master also)
“zMors EQ” (AUv3) has a good one still, (called delay) but since the arrival of Pro-Q 2 who knows how long I’ll keep that app, don’t want too many apps that do the same things.. may just keep it for that purpose (stereo widening) but Stereo Designer is top!

You most likely have a good assortment of AU stuff already, so I would say nay.
You don’t need any of these.
Unless you want them.
Then you definitely need them, and badly.
That woodpresser compressor app looks more interesting these days. Just got updated to support side-chain key input, is already AU, and the reports are it is up there with the best for sound quality.
You got me right @CracklePot ! 😎
I am actually well equipped, especially with AU effects. Until I stumbled upon Crystalline...
It can be interesting for my acoustic instruments like guitar, ukulele, sitar. Johnny and the Stereo Designer seems also interesting...
There are some special effects where I don't think I need them or that they don't match my music. For example Elastic FX, Turnado, Troublemaker, Perforator...
I think I will be happy with the traditional, old school effects.
After buying the bundles of AUFX and Holderness I think I can remove the topic FX from my wish lists.
But you just brought Woodpresser to my attention... 😩
Thank you for your feedback @CracklePot
Very appreciate it! 😊
I disagree because there is no substitue for Stereo Designer or Johnny on IAA or AU. I know of Tiger-Lily Tremolo, and it sounds pretty good, but those flower apps have always been buggy in AU. And I'm pretty sure there's nothing as precise as SD for stereo placement...maybe that room AU where you change room size and place the 'mics'? I forget what it's called but I never tried it because the forum wasn't gung ho on it.
Of course, my opinion will be moot once the Fabfilters keep rolling out.
Not too sure about that, never found anything (feature) within FFs that does this, or at least, so immediate, (wish there was).

I had/have to use Auria's chorus to get an easily adjustable stereo widening ability etc, but it not the same.

Stereo Designer has something speacial!
Yeah could be achieved with other techniques/app/delays (create a couple presets in Timeless 2, cpu) etc with some messing around, but “SD” just has this effect/sound, it’s immediate.
The nearest thing I have found to that sort wow-ing effect, is the “Widen” button on Synth One, (mono to stereo). Would Love to try that on some other material, such as a drum Loop etc..
Stereo Designer is so good I (may) redownload and reconnect with the developer.

Thanks again for all your input and suggestions! You helped me a lot with my decision to buy or not to buy. Finally I purchased both bundles. 🎶
Very appreciate it! 👍
Many greetings to all!

Disagree? How DARE you!

Ever try the Stereo Width in Cubasis FX Pack 1? I like it, and am wondering if Stereo Designer is even better sounding?
@chandroji Cheers!
@chandroji
Enjoy, mate! You won’t be disappointed
Precisely. Exactly. And thricely.
Stereo Designer is one of my all time faves. Would I like it AU? Yep. Would I give up my current version?
Crystalline is one of my favorites as well, but I'm not familiar with the ducking effect that was mentioned previously.
Where would I find this adjustment?
Settings (I think?) or otherwise the deepest layer of the engine room you can find. Adds a lot of musicality and the swell after a phrase sounds lovely.
I'm glad this thread popped up. Went back and had a play using Echo Pad today. Never forget!
I know, dangerous thing to do in 2018!
And I haven't, I don't own any of those Cubasis FX, only the drum pack for the Linn.
I am a tart for width. Stereo Designer is the best out there, and a fair distance better than most (in my opinion etc).
the Klevgr. Haze isn’t bad.. useful because you can apply different widths/narrowness to different frequency areas..
the Cubasis one is ok too, you can switch between different techniques like comb filter , channel swap, haaz etc and see which “suits you sir”
never mind the mixdown quality, FEEL THE WIDTH!
and it's worth exploring the Tweak page as well, where you can setup a ton of details.
By default EchoPad seems to have it's reverb set to zero. It's a very clear reverb, that often spices the sound in a nice way, approaching those Strymon/Eventide boxes.
You can work around it by putting a hard clipper (see Effects -> Dynamics) after it in AUM. It will make sure no levels exceed 0dB.
And that is what I consider a 'bug' in iOS.
CoreAudio should be able to restart itself when that happens without having to re-boot the iPad.
I've had this 'iOS Audio Death' happen quite a few times messing around with various apps...
It’s fun around those edges
I've been picking up FX apps in the $3-4 range. I guess 6 at $2.50 meets that criteria so I'll be getting the Holderness iPad bundle and digging into AB3.1 to save my performance set ups.
But first, I'm headed to YouTube to hear the demos... a step I left off in the past and got some App's I regret buying.
NOTE: I wanted to comprehend Wavetable Synthesis after reading about Wolfgang and the PPG history: for $3 Scythe shows the wavetables in the GUI. I get it now. I might not love it but at least I think I know why now. I'm sure there are wavetables I could plug in that make me love it. That's another project.
You guys might like Haaze for stereo fx.
