That doesn't bother me; you can here Chuck and the band fuckup in Johnny B Goode. The guitars on Exile on Main Street go in and out of tune. And I wholeheartedly prefer the original totally screwed up mix of Iggy and The Stooges Raw Power album over the 90s release that attempted to "correct" it
😉
I’m diggin the app big time, and the latest couple of betas are getting even better. Just really fun
And now for something completely different. The badass T-shirt my sweetie bought me in Vegas. Great “scratchin’” and already rockin’ it in heavy “rotation”
Man, that shirt sure is something. Not sure where to start there.... Can't say I'd wear it myself, but I'd admire the hell out of anyone that did.
Wearing it now. Also have one in same style of a cat in a cowboy hat riding a shark in space, like a chopper and ape-hanger handlebars with jets mounted on the fins. And, another of cats riding donuts like UFOs. lol
comment edited, I think @Michael has stingrayed the spambot thankfully
I doubt if there are many recordings or compositions out there that don't have flaws that the artist would like to have fixed. There are some great compositions and recordings out there that never would have seen the light of day if the artist had had their choice.
I think that there’s a difference between a few “expressive” moments in a recording versus software that works. If an app basically works but has a few rough edges, sure, get in early for a bargain and assume the developer will do right. Which sounds to be the case, which is why I bought it.
I've only had really 2 issues with the app, and one of them has been fixed in the most current beta, ie. the saved user tapeloop samples were 1chan 32bit instead of 2chan. And, the link transport sync thing doesn't work with apeMatrix yet. Haven't tried the most recent beta that dropped a couple hours ago though.
Other than that... I'm chompin' at the bit for a universal version to turn my iPhone into a portable tape looper. For me, that's when the real fun will begin.
I agree. Up-thread (and in various threads in the forum) I got the feeling that some people don't realize that all software (even great software) will have some bugs. The question (as you point out) isn't whether there are some bugs but whether one trusts a dev to address the critical ones and whether one can put it to good use in the state that it's in. People's opinions will vary. I think people often forget that what seems unusable to them, might be totally satisfactory for someone else.
While I have run into some bugs in RE-1, I find that it is also an engaging app as it is -- and, I hope that the glitches will get worked out so that I can make even more use of it.
app is working great here, so exited to get it on iphone soon
I agree with the latter paragraph; for the former, I realize that some bugs are bound to occur, and I trust this developer to address them, but in the grand scheme of things, I have to shake my head when something is released and a number of bugs or problems are found and reported within the first day of release by users who are using the app for its most basic operations. I guess maybe the beta testers are slacking big-time.
Decided to have another go with Volt since it's had some updates...and all I can get it to do with a MIDI controller is play notes that stick. It's fine for about a minute, then it all just sticks. Panic stops it, but the next press right back to hold :-(
Yeah, I’m a beta tester. Been testing for 3 months. Reported every bug I found. They got fixed and then new features were added. More bugs introduced. I’ve had back and forth messages going with this dev as he continued development. So, yeah... I’ve been “slacking big-time”. It’s all my fault.
How effing dare you! What a rotten thing to say.
If you have a problem with this dev or his apps, get a refund or take it up with the dev. Don’t effing sling insults about things you are obviously clueless about.
I love the app and continue testing. Go play with something else that gives you more joy and maybe cool it a bit with the incessant complaining.
" I guess maybe the beta testers are slacking big-time." Just rude.
I finally got some time with the app this weekend. It's astounding. Just freaking gorgeous in sound, function and look. It will get better and more efficient. In the meantime, what a joy.
Thanks for your continued efforts @skiphunt and @ka010 . Color me a fan!
You're very welcome!
Yeah, not sure what's up with that other user with insults and negativity. Maybe there's something else eating at him. Maybe his own creative disappointment or aggravations in other areas of his life. Who's to say? I even took the time and tried to answer several of his specific questions about the app... guess that too is "slacking big-time"... and then he whips up that little chestnut of slung mud. Really?! Who needs it? Best to try and ignore folks like that. They typically aren't worth the trouble to bother with, in that they tend to bring you down too. Lesson learned.
The betas are actually progressing nicely. Several changes and features that some here have asked for have already been added. Still some bugs to squash. I mostly use apeMatrix and am having some issue with the link transport, feature, but it's working well in AUM. For those who are diggin' this app so far, your patience will certainly be rewarded.
Looks like it's $5 launch sale is still on for another 4 days, but for those who want to wait out a few more app updates, I personally think for all it does, it's absolutely worth the $10 price it'll be going up to Sept 1st.
@skiphunt : Do you know if anyone has reported problems with RE-1 sometimes suddenly losing the input signal when adjusting various settings in RE-1. It has happened to me a few times that I've been adjusting a number of parameters via the AU's sliders and dials and suddenly the input signal isn't heard (though the delay is heard). Turning the input level down and back up doesn't have an effect. This has been when using it as an AU (in AUM). It has happened several times, but I've not been able to reproduce it at will. (On iPad 2018 running 11.4.1)
I personally haven't seen that one, but I've seen some weirdness while adjusting parameters with it loaded as AU in AUM. I've bene sticking with the beta version for now instead of the released public version, because there have been a few updates since launch.
From what I can tell, the dev is both squashing bugs while also adding new features, that sometimes add their own bugs. When you think about it, all it's doing is fairly complex... in that it's doing it live and so that you can interact with it, etc. It's going to take some more tweaking for sure. You fix one thing, while adding a new requested feature, that adds breaks another thing that has to be fixed. There have been several builds that were absolutely rock solid, then new features get added, or the UI gets tweaked, or performance tweaking, etc. then there are new things things to fix. That's the nature of the beast. It's getting there though.
Thanks guys I appreciate you! I'm working very hard to make my channel more helpful and inspiring. Someone just ripped me a new on on there just now which almost put me in a bad mood but you guys just made my day. Thanks. JD
YouTube is both the best and the worst.
There is some amazing content: incredible art; old footage you haven't been able to see in years; and vloggers such as yourself who provide a great service to the participants of niche communities like iOS music making.
And then there's the commenting. Really about as bad as you can get without venturing into the cesspool of 4chan, etc.
Don't let it get you down! Thanks for doing what you do!
Thanks dude, glad you're having fun with it!
I believe that's related to the input highpass, if you set it to 0hz it can blow up in some cases, should be fixed in the latest beta though.
Don't let them get to you, you're doing a great job!
@ka010 : tx for the good word. I am enjoying RE-1. It is possible that the high pass filter was the culprit in one of the cases. I would be happy to try the latest beta and see if I can reproduce what I ran into.
Sure, just let me know where to send the invite.
@ka010 My iPhone is my exclusive iOS device. I'd love to beta test for you when you are ready to make it universal!
Latest beta works on iPhone, send me a pm with your email and I'll be happy to send an invite.
Just bumping this thread to mention that Kai has done an outstanding job with all the various betas of this app.. the latest version has very very little ‘warm up’ for me on 10.5 ipad pro and that is only in stand alone ( bear in mind the heat problem was ONLY affecting ipad Pro models ) .. as an au in Cubasis there is absolutely no heat up, drain or anything and now all of the automations work INCLUDING when you put yr finger on the tape animation to slow down/warp the speed of the repeats..this for me makes it now a fully functioning tool with a great deal of versatility in my daw of choice. couple this with the fact that it’s now universal I suggest anybody making a dent in their arse by sitting on the fence with this one, dive in whilst the price is so generous. I am sure the newest version will be with the public PDQ.. and however long it is it will be worth it.
I’ve been trying to replicate what this app does ( dubwise ) with Tap delay/DAWcassette and also Lofionics Duplicat... both of which are great things but not quite the same animal as this wee beastie
@thesoundtestroom Great sounding demo! Very cool around 4:40. Like some music people would be listening to at a pool party, in a David Lynch movie.
Excellent!! PM being sent!
Quick question - why do animations stop sometimes? Is there something I'm missing? I'm not asking because I need the spinning animations (though it is cool!) just wondering if I'm missing some setting or if when it's stopped something else has been reset? [using iPad Pro 12.9, in ApeMatrix]
Thanks!
That’s a buggy behavior. It was doing it more in earlier builds but got much better before launch. Sometimes just closing the AU window and reopening gets the spinning going again.
I haven’t seen them stop at all in the latest beta builds though. Getting more and more solid.
For those who haven’t bought it yet, and aren’t scared of the occasional bug that gets squashed reasonably quickly... only a couple days left of the launch sale. And the betas are already universal
Is the heat/cpu issue completely sorted now?
