  • How are the included effects? Has anyone worked sending stems from other apps in? Work as expected?

Is Audio Evolution now a universal app? That's what I thought after the thread.

Have the iPad app but for the download of the iPhone version the AppStore ask me to pay again 7;99€. I don't dare to press the buy button... 😎

I found it free in my purchased apps section. I believe when I first searched for it, using search, it asking me to pay.

It has support of exporting stems! It’s as if they’ve thought of everything!

Yes, it is universal. I’m not sure why it shows cost. Another person saw that as well, but when buying it, it didn’t charge them.

Everything is fine! After buying, the AppStore confirmed that this will be a free update!

    Thanks a lot for feedback @Audiojunkie and @Telengard !

  • Thanks @Littlewoodg for explaining quantization - I found how to do it after the notes have been entered, but I'll have to look more closely to see if pre-quantizing is working. I find that the effectiveness of quantizing varies a ton from app to app. Cubasis and MultiTrackStudio are my two favs, and generally do a great job of it.

I bought the Pro IAP for 6 bucks. My current iPhone (6s) has some issues with the battery and dreaded Lightning jack, but I'm likely to upgrade soon. With better processing and a slightly bigger screen, I could really see using this as a mobile sketch tool, or to capture ideas from Pocket Operators, UNO Synth, or other cheap battery-power hardware I am addicted to.

  • How does it compare to garageband? Both are iphone daws.

GarageBand has some cool things--touch instruments, looping stuff, etc. But, Audio Evolution Mobile is SO much easier to use--it's VERY straight forward and everything is as one would expect it to be. Also, Audio Evolution has true bussing and true full automation of everything, including CCs. GarageBand wants to be the be-all-end-all of music apps, so there are features to allow for importing audio, but not much for exporting. Audio Evolution Mobile is very connected with the community and allows ways to get the audio out to other apps much easier. For example, you can even render all tracks to stems so that you can move your tracks to another DAW if and when needed. Also, GarageBand comes with a lot of great built-in instruments, drummers, etc, and so mediocre effects, and they are free. Audio Evolution Mobile comes with IAPs for awesome ToneBoosters effects, and Great Soundfonts (original samples from original hardware modules, from Digital Sound Factory). GarageBand is for everyone--and it feels it. Audio Evolution Mobile has a more Pro feel. In my opinion, it's the new king for iPhone DAWs. Oh, and one final thing....Apple doesn't give a crap about you or your concerns. The Audio Evolution Mobile devoper is very active and responsive to comments, bug reports, feature requests, etc. Both are top notch DAWs. Both are Universal (iPad AND iPhone support). The best thing to do would be to try them both out and see which one you like best.

  • Here's a question I have, that I just thought about. Does Audio Evolution Mobile support MIDI AUs? This I don't know....

  • edited August 2018

So ... would this be a good choice for sending tracks from Gadget (for instance) and finishing up?
Also, how stable is the AU support on iPad in the app?

I was just chatting with someone the other day about this. I think this is going to replace my favorite comping DAW, MultiTrack DAW (which I used previously for working with Gadget Stems, audio phrases and loops from other apps, etc. So, in answer to your first question: Yes, I believe it will be a great choice for sending tracks from Gadget and finishing up.

As far as AU stability..... I have not extensively tested with a lot of different AU instruments and effects. Time will tell as far as stability goes for all AUs. But this much I can say, the developer is very determined to have things work right, and (unlike Apple) wants to hear from you if you find a problem. If a bug is found, it benefits us all to properly report the bug and exactly how it is reproduced, so that it can get fixed.

  • By the way, I think I should make it clear that I am in no way affiliated with the company/developer that develops Audio Evolution Mobile. I am simply an enthusiast who has been beta testing the app for a while, and I'm very excited to see this DAW coming to my platform of choice, the iPhone.

  • @Audiojunkie thanks for your thorough comparison

    You are welcome!

  • I really like your enthusiasm @Audiojunkie :)

And, I’m also very curious to know if it handles MIDI AU so I can use it will all neat generative apps and Rozeta.

Many thanks! This looks promising to me.

Thanks! I'm currently trying to find that out myself. I just sent a quick note to the developer. I'd love to have my StepPolyArpUnit and Rozetta working too. I haven't figured out how to do it yet, but I make mistakes all the time and may have missed it.

  • Maybe I can get Davy to pop into this thread and answer any questions you guys may have.....

    @dwrae

  • You guys want to talk about fast support? I emailed Davy 2-3 minutes ago, and I already have a response!!!

Here's what he said regarding MIDI AUs: "No, MIDI plug-ins are not supported (yet)."

Does anyone else get a big smile on their face when reading "(yet)."?

  • Oh, and a feature request that I put in to him is already added and the update is waiting for review from Apple!!

  • Not seeing any sync features.. Ableton Link?

I just checked. It does not seem to support Ableton Link at this time.

It does have IAA Generator support as well as Audiobus In and Audiobus out support.

So, these would be good future feature requests then:

    --AU Midi Support
    --Ableton Link (with stop/start) support
    --Audiobus Midi support
    --Audiobus State Saving support

Thanks for the feedback! I'm checking out AU MIDI currently, but as usual there isn't much documentation. We'll get there though.

  • Great. Thanks everyone. Purchased, because iPhone and reportedly easy to use.

Anyone know what the ‘pro features’ iap actually buys you? It’s not clear from the App Store description.

If there is some documentation online I’m sure @brambos could point you in the right direction.

I renamed it, but unfortunately Apple has to 'review' it which hasn't been done yet. The PRO iap is for users who installed 1.x first (which was free). They need to do the IAP to get on the same level as people who purchased the 2.x version. So in short, the IAP is not applicable for new users and cannot be purchased.
And thanks for your purchase! :)

Cool. Thanks. That make sense. I’ll ignore it then.

(Ps Link would be most appreciated at some point :))

It's definitely on the todo list. I'm just not sure how apps can instantly jump to any position in a project considering audio data is not in memory, but I'll have to check it out more thoroughly.

  • Folks around here always ask for Link but that’s not always easy to do anytime audio is involved because of the time stretch and pitch shift involved to manipulate the audio. This is why Auria and Cubasis don’t have it and likely never will. I guess newer iPads could handle but I’m not a dev so I don’t really know what I’m talking about. ;)
