HALLOWEEN song challenge!
Ok forum, with Halloween around the corner, who's in?
Rules:
1) must have halloween/horror theme
2) must make new song for the challenge, dont post something already made
3) there is NO rule #3
4) post your creations here
Discussion:
I like the idea of a 3min time limit but not sure how other people feel. Have not made it a rule but leave it here as a suggestion.
Got this idea from Reddit where they will have a poll to vote for the favourite, do we want to make it more competitive like that? If so all submissions would have to be in a few days before Halloween, say Oct. 27
Comments
Tempted for sure. Not sure about voting for ‘the best’ it makes music making seem like a competition, which it isn’t
Sounds fun..if there’s a time limit I think 4 minutes more reasonable for horror...competition could be cool if it done in a fun non overly judgemental way
I’ll have a track that’s suitable for this .. Bit of an experiment in a new style! Won’t be playing by any time limit restrictions (not too long, probably pass 4) but meets the criteria of rules 1 and 2.
If the bedroom painting gets finished, I will have half a track to post (I never finish any tracks lol)
You're too advanced. Gotta learn from you!
Been reaching only 1/3 of a song lately
Well even if we worked together that’s only 5/6th of a song
Well the competitive aspect could motivate some people but demotivate others, Id just like to maximize participation either way.
Yes 3 min is admittedly on the short side but my thinking was:
• it might get more people involved who can make a 2 min sketch but never finish a whole song (lot of us here im sure!).
• The short format is also akin to a halloween tv/movie intro theme length.
• if lots of people entered it would be easier to listen to everything.
But anyway there is no official time limit, just wanted to put those ideas out there.
This gets back to what I was saying about the 3 min limit, you only have to write half of a long song to have a complete short. Entries of 1/3 to 1/2 of a song should be fine.
You guys better get busy, Im making good progress here!
Not long finished decorating and it’s now nearly my bedtime lol. It did make me laugh earlier when I found a piece I had done for a Hallowe’en party many years ago. I wouldn’t post it here as the backing track has some synths lines lifted from a porcupine tree album. I made good use of the ‘I’ll get you my pretty...and your little dog too!’ Line lol
I have my entry ready. Here it is.
It is a ghost 👻👻👻👻
@AndyPlankton I know a label that might be interested!
@1nsomniak
Cool idea. I’ll give it a go too.
Scary Halloween sounds using Cubasis drums
PS: By the way, I carved the 3D pumpkin at the office carving competition - but I didn't win because I did not put a light inside it This video is just for fun - not looking to win any competition.
All the songs posted should be made into an Audiobus Halloween album!
Just played through the final fiddle finger part and it didn’t record so....grrrr
The idea is of walking down a creepy street alone in the night. Not sure if it hit the mark or not, but was strapped for time
My little Halloweenish ditty
iOS apps used:
BM3 and AUM
iBassist and Funk Drummer
iFretless Bass, Syntronik, Jubal Flute, Sensual Sax, Galileo 2, Shoom and Finger Fiddle
Kosmonaut, FAC Maxima, Turnado, Audio Reverb
Here is my 2 cents soup, hope you enjoy it with some onions
@cuscolima Like it lots
Hi
this challenge did it!
Being Horror (soundtrack) enthusiast, IOS-musician and „silent“ forum user for quite a while now, this challenge made me pull the trigger to „creep out of the shadows“!
Thank you for that!
Foolish b-movie teenagers, deep in the woods, near to the haunted house, trying to get some candy!
IOS only, of course!
Enjoy and please reply!
Very nice...and creepy !
Cool percussion in this one and the organ is definitely spooky.
This is excellent, glad you came out of hiding! Definite horror movie vibes and nice slow build over the track. What apps?
I was thinking a soundcloud playlist at least
@PartOfPayn Definitely channelling your inner exorcist there, thumbs up
Ok here's my horror theme...
Apps used: SpaceCraft x2 - still my go to source for inspiration.
Zeeon x4 - just got it, new favorite that isn't SC. I think all sounds were from the forum's preset bank.
Ratshack Reverb, FuzzPlus3, AUM
finished in Ableton
@1nsomniak Cool. Even better once I’d turned of the Marc and the Mambas playing in the other room (although it was an interesting mix )
Thanks!
Sounds from Micrologue, Roli Noise and Beathawk, little bit of Spacecraft, Kosmonaut and FAC Maxima, mixed in Cubasis, mastered with Grand Finale.
Awesome stuff people! I love Halloween and make always a few tracks each year.
So i made one for this thread as well. A mix of mac and iOS tools (while most of the dark nicely Lofi energy comes from the amazing DRC synth which you all know is for iOS and mac/windows as well).
I hope i´m in the rules...at least it´s exact 3 minutes
Enjoy this distorted nightmare
My friend has a thing for Vampires so we finally did this track 🧛🏼♂️
https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=Jlmsci0WDIE
GarageBand iOS (mostly Alchemy, GB Loops and random SFX)
Great creepy atmosphere
Im not familiar with DRC, how would you say it compares to Moog Model D and Zeeon? (my current two favorite virtual analogs)
Definitely the smoothest jam of this thread.
What is that music version of youtube you linked?
