    We've been dumped.

They're after the Freemium pot of gold.

We may have been promised features the past 3 years but I just don't believe them anymore that they're coming.

Check out their Facebook & Twitter pages. Full of unanswered questions from customers dating back months. They say they have 10m customers but these pages only get a handful of questions and they can't even employ somebody to answer them. Awful customer service, but you know, we get offered at least 3 soundpacks to buy every week. ;)

Check out their financial presentation, the serious musician isn't their intended target, at least on the Ampify side of things.

Good apps, but now resigned to the fact that their full potential is unlikely to be realised.

That’s nuts... how can you have an active community of hard core folks here begging for relevant stuff, but then turn them aside and basically whine there’s no market for serious musicians... those two things can’t exist at the same time...

  • I dunno, man. I’ve invested a lot in Ampify app’s sound packs and presets in the belief that it would help fund further development in them. Apart from the odd maintenance update, I’m convinced this is now not going to happen.

Let’s face it, these apps are primarily there to generate revenue from sales of packs.

However, I still find Blocs Wave and Groovebox useful. Just not as useful as they could be. Oh well. :|

    Exactly this.

  • I’d love a new Circuit hardware with the Groovebox sound engine. It sounds much better than the Circuit’s nova engine to my ears. Except Minimon which I still feel is pretty weak. The Bass and Poly instruments sound fantastic.

The soundpacks could be downloaded to the unit via Components website. Integration between the Circuit and Groovebox apps would be interesting.

Very unlikely I guess, but I’d love those Groovebox sounds on the Circuit.

  • I've been spending some time with Groovebox on the iPhone and miss the 'mixer' from the iPad version.
it's pretty annoying to go in & out fo each instrument to adjust their levels when trying to match them with each other so I do hope that will be fixed in a future update.

Saving user-presets for the instruments would also be nice as well as selecting the sample-rate & bit-depth for export. Being able to use user-samples with DrumBox could be nice as well as a new 'sampler instrument' that could be used to create samples for DrumBox and the 'sampler instrument' in it self could be yet another 'instrument').
(This could be done with Files.app support ie. drop some samples in selected folders and instantly access them from the DrumBox).

But hey, looking forward to their replies here in the thread once the 'holidays' are over or something :D

  • Like @Beathoven stated. Speaking from my heart.

I love(ed) groovebox. Remembering some days, when I was downtown with my wife and she went shopping and I stopped at the „iPhone lounge“ (you know where the men are sitting their head 45 degree down into their phone). Groovebox gave me some nice moments, but investing in all these packs and still keep them imprisoned in the app... bummer. Cool app though

Yes this would be awesome, it would stop me having to manually transfer patches from Groovebox to the Circuit and Mininova ;)

I can’t help thinking there’s something a bit Stockholm Syndrome about people’s continuing attempt at finding good things to say about these blatant examples of appsploitation. iMHO, of course. 😉
    Ps. Thinking of Groovebox, specifically.

I’m leaning towards exporting the loops and importing them into Stagelight.

This is exactly what I started doing last week. Very excited to have a timeline to work with, but did encounter some bugs with missing sounds and such in Stagelight. Need to go back and try to reproduce that...

  • Just wanted to point out, that the Financial Presentation is from last August (which is before Matt from Ampify posted here) and is likely simplified, as it's intended to be a summary for investors/shareholders who care more about the $ than the nuances of their thinking behind the naming, target user groups, product lines, etc.

Perhaps I'm too optimistic, but I think it's more reasonable to trust what Matt shared with us here (especially this sentence: "Our goals are to ensure that everything feels smoother and easier to user/make for this new customer, whilst at the same time adding features that are more advanced for the Innovators") than the powerpoint presentation, most probably created by a financial team that probably isn't even working day to day from within Ampify office in London where the actual development happens.

I am myself leading a small startup that tries to build some innovative products while managing relationship with investors and existing user base that's tied to the legacy technology, so I know how hard it is to prioritize stuff and keep the research and development running while keeping everyone satisfied.

They already blew my mind several times in the past (first with Launchpad, then with Blocs, Circuit and Groovebox) and I don't think any of these was expected, so I do believe they are preparing the groundwork for some cool things that are coming in the future (and will hopefully blow our minds likewise). All we can do is throw them some bucks from time to time (all of the packs in Blocs and Groovebox might look like a quick cash-grab, but they're so cheap I don't mind), keep our fingers crossed and wait.

  • I haven't tried Groovebox, but BW and LP, along with some sound packs, has been a small investment for a lot of fun. I think that's probably in alignment with the vision of the company. Anything else for me will be gravy.

+1 Also worth asking, Do they actually make that much from the soundpack sales ? They have content creators and loopmasters who need to be paid.
Dare I suggest that they may just about cover the cost of the company and it's operation !

They recently indulged in celebrating 10million customers.

Something had to pay for the party hats and poppers in the celebratory video! :)

  • Actually 'Groovebox' is the only app from them I find 'usable' on the iPhone 8 when it comes to the size of UI elements. Just wish it had the volume-sliders on the same page as the iPad version making level matching easier.

I tend to download the free packs that are available when I randomly launch their apps :)

hahaha, true, maybe they were £1 shop specials...I may need to watch the video again to see how far back they lean from the poppers to tell :)

Unfortunately, what really grinds me about Ampify is that their support only ever answers nice 'Back-Slapping' comments on their social media.

Post something telling them how amazing they are, then they'll respond within hours thanking you.

If you have issues, bugs or feature requests then you get completely blanked for weeks...months!

Pretty shocking behaviour. Especially when you consider how great the support from their parent company, Novation, is.

    haha!

  • Also in the interest of giving credit where due (while recognizing that it is a matter of opinion), their sounds packs are really, really good. Top notch production and very usable bits in every one. I've bought several dozen (usually on $1 sale) and have yet to be disappointed in the content--which is not always the case with loop packs. If that's their model, at least they're doing it right!

Spot on ! I'm getting a lot of mileage from the vocal samples in the blocs and Launchpad packs...I think the packs are very cleverly put together..it is actually quite difficult to get stuff that doesn't go together..

This is my best guess too. They are trying to please 2 very different kinds of customers at the same time....not an easy task....and it could result in nobody being happy. But I believe their intentions are good.

I think these apps are a ton of fun, but I don’t even think about them when it comes to more serious attempts at songwriting. However they could be a nice gateway to iOS music making for the uninitiated which would be a good thing for the community.

A very good point....those 10 million people are definitely not here ;)

  • I would like to hear back from @AmpifyxNovation as they started this thread.

  • there cannot be that many people elsewhere asking for their attention and that are as interested in the future of their apps as we have here in this forum...
so I just find it hard to Believe that they cannot find the time to respond to a big piece of their customers / supporters and fan base...
make it black n white....either you are going to work on doing some of these requests or your not....
if no then tell us so everyone can move on. it's rare to get this much attention for this long for an iOS music app so I think they should take advantage of what they have here with this fan / customer base that is really wanting to support them and see groove box and bc be a super power in iOS land..
I just don't understand the huge gaps in communication, my customers would never get that from me...i work 60 hours a week and have a house and family and help my wife run a small business, and yet still find time to help people here, learn from people here and make music so it's honestly hard to accept the " too busy" excuse.
It's easy to see why people are losing faith in the growth of these apps or that they done care for the smaller number of people that use iOS seriously... The ones who can help more people also take it seriously,... It's an investment, a risk maybe, but worth it.
Just be black n white, that's what we want...
I have a friend who's had video chat and conversations with them on ig because he uses their stuff in his videos, so I know they are out there and probably lurking here daily...i dunno it's just confusing...
If groovebox is all its going to ever be, then just tell us, if you really want to build it to be a super power then show us!

    Hello All,

It's Matt from Ampify Again. Apologies for a late reply.

It's clear to some here that our ability to reply in a timely fashion is far less than what is expected. I have to apologise for that. I'm also aware that some have reached out to us on Social Channels and not had an adequate response. Again, my apologies. We are endeavouring to get some more internal resource to help our many customers, and need to do better here. For the time being, it's us devs doing our best to help whenever we can.

With regard to Spooky Zoo / Keifar Polaf, please do email me using the address I forward you on Facebook. Also, you have my phone number. I'm here to help and support you, but I do need you to contact me, otherwise I can't help in the ways I'd like to.

I'd also like to thank those people on the forum who we work with directly for the tremendous support they give us, and they know that we work hard to deliver value to the range of customers we have, and the trade offs we need to make.

And for those who think we fly around in big corporate jets throwing money around, I can only advise you that making apps may not be the big money earner that you think it is. However we still pour our hearts into it to try and make the best blend of products and features we can. For example, you may not be able to see how good our screen reader is for those hard of sight, or what it takes to make the app accessible in other languages. Some of these features bring huge joy to those in other areas of the world.

We do listen, we just clearly need to do better at communicating back. Thank you for your patience.

Attention to details like these is what makes good apps great..and shows that Ampify are embracing the platform fully, investigating all aspects and making full use of what can be done in order to bring music making to users who may otherwise not easily or affordably be able to.

Good stuff in my book :)
