"YouTubers" : Likes / Dislikes
I would like this thread to be a good point of reference. A guide of sorts on what people like or dislike with Youtubers who do vids on iOS music making/software, or synths/drum machines.
What do you like to see in a vid?
What annoys you?
What would you like to see more of in vids?
What would you like to see less of?
(I do realize there is a limited universe of people so let's not try to be too specific or personalized in attempt to not hurt peoples feelings. Even if by doing a Youtube video series they are technically a public figure and should have thick enough skin to take it.)
Comments
Show the app and clearly explain how it works this way I get the best idea if I want it. Doug does a good job in this. Most others don't. Although I appreciate their attempts.
I do agree.
Doug does it right.
Unfortunately, Doug has a great personality.
He is engaging and makes people want to hang out with him.
I hate to say it, some of these people doing vids have the personality of an eraser.
I guess I can say this.
If you aren't social person who chats easily with people and you don't make friends easily.....don't do vids.
You need to have a likable and engaging personality.
No matter how much expensive gear you have, if you aren't a likable person, the vids are hard to watch.
I would also like to give this advice.
If you have a YT channel.
You are not actually a household name. Don't act like your personal habits are some part of the show and so entertaining.
Like oh, let me put this food in the microwave......and then every show......before we look at this groove box......its time for me to put my meal in the microwave.......then a graphic of your microwave is on the screen.
Just stop...LOL
Slow news day, eh?
Yup
I look at it like this.
I rather silly news then fake news.....
Please don't fuck around with "fake news" when real bombs are being sent to newsrooms and journalists are being dismembered.

I think this guy does good vids.
Doesn't try to hard.
Doesn't act like a know it all.
Also doesn't always have close ups of his face making stupid faces.
Taetro
Distractions exploding all over the place.
I mean bombs.
Hate filled bombs. Bombs.
Mail bombs with timers.
What's next? Religion likes/dislikes?
How can you even consider this thread not introducing animosity?
I don't know.
I guess if that is how you perceive it. Then that's your approach to this.
I was pretty clear.
It was real viewers opinions on what in YT vids they find beneficial or a turn off.
I would love to have that marketing data as a YTuber.
I guess if you consider constructive criticism "animosity"..........well .........I guess that statement as I wrote it says it all.
I guess you are the voice or reason or advocate for the public figures known as Youtubers?
That is very kind of you. You must have more compassion than most people and be a way better person.
Because you care.

Of course Dean does a great job IMHO.
I like his informative videos more than the performances only because the informative ones are really full of good information for electronic musician.
And don’t make it seem like you’re going to convey something super special and then have it just be speculation or your opinion.
I can make up my own mind. Stick to the facts.
I find Some guys are good at explaining how apps work and some guys are good at showing how apps sound.
I like too the point.
If you are showing how to do something technical, show ALL the steps and not gloss over or jump over small stuff. Don’t try to be too funny or too creative, it can take away from the video. Try to use the proper terminology instead of saying “this thing” or something like that, so newbies don’t get confused.
Keep the videos under 10 minutes
Don’t use any background music when talking
I find most of the guys doing it now make good videos.
GREAT POINTS
No backgroundmusix !
Exactly
All your points are so true
They may seem like common sense but not always.
I love the ole- saying “shut up and play”
So true
Right!
Well for me your idea heads towards the “disclosure” topic.
If you got something free
If you were loaned something to do the vid
If you were paid to do the vid
Honest in advertising type stuff.
I know for a fact several really dishonest people in the “biz”......
Good points
Almost forgot - write a script or at least an outline. Don’t “hem” and “haw” me to death.
Cats....I want cats doing funny things.
What I personally like is clear informative narrative, not too much fluff and padding, I get turned off by over dramatics.
These are my own personal preferences, and we all like different things and done in different styles.
Don’t take forever to get your clothes off. Keep your hands out of the way. Try and look at least a bit interested during the thrusting and rubbing. Don’t pixelate the money shot (hey, Japanese girls – why? Why the pixelation?). Make sure the lighting is…
…oh, YouTube. I misread that.
Make it concise. It doesn't have to be short, but sometimes people just ramble on and it takes forever to show the point they are trying to make. Have a plan for the points you want to cover so you're never left wondering what to say next.
Know the gear you're reviewing. Too many people rush video reviews in order to be first on YouTube, and sometimes it shows that they don't really know the gear they are reviewing that well.
No iPhone mic audio for said gear (I'm cool with it for voiceovers though). Line in record everything you're playing so people can actually hear what it sounds like.
Be honest. Point out the flaws as much as you point out the stuff you do like. What bugs the reviewer might not even be a concern for me personally, but at least I want to know about it.
No fingerprints or dust. Man this one bugs me. If you're doing close up shots of gear for a review, spend 1 minute just wiping it down first so it doesn't look like you found it in a trash heap.
Here's a posting of 107 rss music tutorial youtube channels that I posted to reddit 2 years ago. I'll have to update it.

Apologies mate. This is clearly a sign that I’ve been frequenting this forum too much lately and need to take a break. Got saturated with all the STUFF that’s all.
Bro
Accepted 199%
Seriously
I was kind of shocked but totally get you my friend
For real
I love your Circuit vids!
BTW
Focus, focus, focus! Nothing is more annoying than trying to watch a video that is out of focus half the time.
Give the cutesy graphics and weird vocals a rest.
Maybe spend more time doing tighter editing. Like, edit out the parts where you get lost, or if things aren’t working like they should.
Actually, not a lot to complain about. Just as long as they don’t start using that creepy synthetic voice over, like the non music Youtubers.
if at all possible: screen record your iOS device. I know it is a pain, and you have to record the stereo audio separately, then sync after. The viewing experience is just so much better.
Lol
NO BACKGROUND MUSIC
I appreciate anyone taking the time to show me a synth or other gear that I might not see... unless I bought it. Can’t imagine trying to buy a synth without hours of demos and research. (Although iOS apps can sometimes be an impulse blind purchase) So even the smallest effort is appreciated and valuable.
Especially if you DON’T use the camera mic! ![:p :p](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/tongue.png)
But if i may add some hopefully helpful advice to those making videos... Make the SYNTH the star of the show, not you. Too often video demos have what seems like 90% talking. Then the synth will squeak for 5 seconds, then more talking. Most of the audience knows synth architecture. No need to impress with lots of talking. Don’t overshadow the Instrument... literally. Sometimes the split screen shot of the reviewer is very distracting. Do we really need to see you? No offense to any of the very knowledgeable (and handsome) demonstrators, but if i see a big close-up of somebody’s mug on the YouTube search for synths... it usually means the synth is going to play second banana. Sometimes less “personality” and “showmanship” is a good thing. Sidechain the style just a wee bit. Be the straight-man, and let the synth get the punchlines. Just my two cents. YMMV. Now all you kids git offa my lawn!![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
In the video description, you put chapters.
and so on.
Not hard to do! Not all of us want to hear your vlog about what you had for breakfast.
