    I like too the point.
If you are showing how to do something technical, show ALL the steps and not gloss over or jump over small stuff. Don’t try to be too funny or too creative, it can take away from the video. Try to use the proper terminology instead of saying “this thing” or something like that, so newbies don’t get confused.
Keep the videos under 10 minutes
Don’t use any background music when talking

I find most of the guys doing it now make good videos.

Pete John's GB videos are to the point

Give the cutesy graphics and weird vocals a rest.

I know you're joking but ... Japanese law. Made for DVD material. Seems irrelevant now in the internet age but I doubt the law will change.

  • Loopop does the ideal youtube synther format IMO, efficient and straight to the point ..I love the way he keeps a table of contents on screen, outlining all the major points he covers, along with timecodes.

For iOS youtubers, Doug and Haq are my goto. They really opened my eyes to what the platform is capable of and are responsible for inspiring the resulting deficit in my bank account. (entirely worth it though) ;)

  • Cuckoo nice youtuber, i like his peaceful and gentle intonation. Note the length of his video, being long it doesn’t tire. And of course his video is well perceived by non-english users.

  • I like this ... stick with it he needs time to warm up ...

  • I'm not too guilty of the background music pet peeve, but I also don't see what the problem is with background music. For a long time,on terrestrial radio, when a DJ spoke, he had music in the background and actually thought tt made some of their ramblings somehow, easier to listen to. Also, I think it's important if one does this, that the speaking is plenty loud and clear. I have music from the song I'm working on playing in the background because I'm talking about a song I'm working on at the same time, but I have learned that if I don't speak very clearly, the background definitely detracts from what I'm saying.
BTW, I just finished a tutorial on how I do trance production on the IPAD, before seeing this thread. I'm curious to see what you all think about how I go about things, when trying to teach. I cut down the humor antics for this video, not trying to be funny at all this time. I try to cut out the dead air but I also don't want to rush through the things i doing during composition, which is a process I believe shouldn't be rushed, whenever possible.

Dislikes: Some imagery disturbing, leaves me feeling guilty at times.

    Buddhism

Dislikes: My ass hurts if I do sitting meditation for too long, and I sometimes am left wishing there was more to do. Also, chanting can feel a bit silly.

  • Back to the original topic.

I think there needs to be some constructive criticism. I welcome it because it helps me get better. I have some serious public speaking anxiety and through the couple of years forcing myself to do youtube videos, I have grown in that area. I don't let my true personality out but for a few people. My in-laws did not believe my wife when she would tell stories of some of the things I did. I wasn't comfortable enough around them to be me, in all actuality, I just wasn't comfortable enough just being me that I tried to be a toned down, mild version.

So, if you don't have much of a personality and want to do youtube videos, then eventually you will just quit or you will improve and let more of your personality shine. It might not be entirely your own fault and something you have to deal with.

There are also different types of videos. Doug does a great job at letting us know how an app sounds. I, on the other had, understand more of the technical side of things. So my videos are not as musical. I fall into the 90% talking category on some videos because I am explaining. I could break the videos up, doing them in sections, and adding more app sounds. Maybe that is something I can do in the future.

Jakob and Dean are both really great at what they do as well. I do also enjoy Mr. Tim Webb's videos where he is just exploring a synth in a Lets Play style. Happy accidents are great.

I think a Peter Mckinnon vlog style iOS musician series would do great. Showing how you use iOS in music production and actually making songs in the video. I would love to see iOS featured on an Against the Clock or rhythm roulette.

Maybe we can do some of that kind of stuff ourselves. Just takes a lot of time editing and building up the experience to get it done in a timely manner.

Here is a question. How many videos do you expect a youtuber to produce each week/month?

  • If you don’t like people’s videos you can just not watch them, or you can make your own videos and do it how you think it should be done. All these resources are free, so no current complaints from me. Sometimes the app developers give us no manual, no video, nothing. All we get is people nice enough to let us know about it. I’ve never done any tutorials, overviews or anything like that, but I’d imagine it takes quite a bit of work. Sure some of the folks doing videos get a little money or benefits, but not that much I’d imagine or none at all

That is my take on it.

    I don't expect any.

    I do like relevant videos.

I think a YouTuber polling on say here, what people are interested in is a great way to build interest viewers AND to get topics.

    Quality, not quantity.

I love your humble, informative approach.

You don't need cute graphics and effects IMHO.

  • Man, this is both enlightening and a really hard read. I'm just hoping I'm not the next one to be ripped to shreds, but I hope that you all are digging the content since this board is basically my demographic.

I've got another vid coming this weekend (if all goes as planned). Thanks for all the views and I love the feedback on YT. I'm deliberately trying for a different niche than the others out there - Audio Dabbler, Electronisounds Audio, The Sound Test Room, Discchord, Haq Attack, Bo Beats, Synth Anatomy, NuTrix the Synth Guy, DJ Puzzle, The Bedhead Producer... (and a whole bunch I'm forgetting) they all have something to offer and to be a new guy on the scene is tough. I'm trying to avoid tutorials and do more conceptual or topical videos.

Anyway - sorry I've been light this last month, but I'll be back in the swing of things now that I'm home again.

  • Ignore the "scene" and just do your thing, that honesty is what gets people's attention IMO.

Funny how so many people I know with popular YouTube channels who are really quiet, introverted people in real life too. I think that's more common than a lot of people think. 😳

It seems as if there's one political camp that is going through all kinds of contortions to play down what seems to be obvious: Endless rallies stoking nationalist hatred, demonizing political opponents, and classifying journalists — the only occupation protected by the Constitution, mind you — as the enemy of the people...that might have an effect on someone who is unstable and prone to violence.
But no one has been convicted, however "obvious" this may seem.

But please don't fall into the trap of labeling all journalism as "fake news."

Everything you know about our government's crimes — literally everything, all through history — you know because of journalism.
