    hey guys,

I've been going through the comments and already fixed most of the issues noted here (thanks!) you can expect the obligatory 1.0.1 update to drop sometime next week.

Kind of annoying that you have to scroll one at a time through the scales rather than pick from a list. But I guess it’s OK since one doesn’t often have to do quick scale mode changes.

you can swipe across the LCD control to quickly scroll through the list, like a knob or fader. This actually works everywhere you find this type of control, in other apps as well.

How do you pick what chords go on the things? For example there’s no D7 or E major in that shot.

You pick the root note and scale, then you'll get the one key per scale degree.

In the screenshot, root note is set to C and scale to Major in which the E chord (ii) is a minor chord, that's why you don't see an E major chord.

EDIT: If you look up chord progressions you'll find things like I - IV - V - I which denote the scale degrees.
An upper case letter means it's a major chord, lower case letters denote minor chords. For every scale you'll have a mixture of major, minor and diminished chords where the type of scale defines where the major, minor and diminished chords sit.

For example, in major - the first, fourth and fifth degrees are major chords so in C thats CMaj (I) FMaj(IV) and GMaj(V)

The chord layout is built around this principle so it's easy to play even fairly complex progressions while playing a lead on another keyboard.

    Hope that makes sense.

At the moment only triads are supported, that's why there is are no 7th chords either.

@ka010 can you add an option dyads and 7ths please?

Also, +1 for assignable drum pads :-)

  • So, how is this app? I'm so curious for user reports! I wish it had a strum/string thing, but it looks so great all in all!

It’s an on screen keyboard app. How much is there to say? There’s no hidden magic. I suggest watching Doug’s video, looking at what it does, and seeing if it says “oh yeah, I need that to make my life easier.” If it isn’t obvious that it will, give it a pass until you hit some limitation that an expressive on screen keyboard would address.

I wouldn’t buy it just for the chord pads. Unless you’re trying to stay AUv3 only, that area is covered more extensively by other apps designed just for that. But, there are plenty of other reasons that it’s super useful (though fornyou or not, only you can judge).

Thanks! (Fame manager?, I know I should get it...:) ) Does it do pressure sensitivity? Like pressure down on the screen (not even sure if that is even a thing on the new iPad Pros but there is on the iPhone Xs)

No. Velocity can optionally be controlled by vertical position on the keypad. It’s currently bottom to top, with top as the loudest. But will be reversible in the future.

Pressure sensitivity (3D touch in Apple speak) hasn’t come to iPads yet.

O darn! Good to know. Thanks a lot. Kinda surprised Apple hasn't implemented this yet. I think it has been on the Microsoft Surface for quite awhile!

    Uke player?
Or maybe a Bass player who likes to strum?

  • I’ve never really been a fan of on screen keys, preferring to use my little M Audio whenever possible, however I’ve realized that I use the rather basic little AUM keyboard all the time.

I picked this us as an alternative to the AUM keyboard, and after a quick play with it, it seems to work quite well. I suspect that this will get an awful lot of use, if only to be able to have independent keys latched to run arps on different synths.

  • Hi @ka010 would it be possible to put pitchbend and mod wheels onto each of the keyboard variants?

I usually avoid requesting features , but this would be very cool. I was pleased to find it there on the keyboard, and my immediate thought was 'oh boy!' thinking the others would have it.

Anyway, came to say I'm not a screen tapper if I can avoid it, but this is very well done and very usable for when the situation calls. In fact, good enough to maybe make me forgo reaching for the 25-key at times.

Sure, I don't want to force them into the other layouts but I could imagine adding an option to do so.

Sounds good. Just want to add that this has been a great addition. Well done and thanks :)

Think I’m gonna buy it (since it’s gonna be universal). But can someone confirm, does per note independent pitch bend work with MPE synths, eg Roli Noise?

  • I have found a few IAA synths like Scythe Synth that it doesn’t work with. In AUM, the built in keyboard works but not KB-1.

  • An old-school ’chord memory’ could be really usefull.

Just like the hold button can be used to hold notes a chord-memory button cold be used to ’grab’ the held notes and put them in a temporary chord memory :)

Plenty usefull for one-finger chords covering a wide range of keys. (Like a basic 5th with two sub octaves as an example).

I’ve grown to like the 3 row piano as it kinda reminds me of tracking LOL.

  • Just bought this, seems great..but was disappointed to discover you can’t add multiple keyboards to a single AU instance. I guess I assumed this was possible, unless I’ve missed a feature. Is this going to happen at some point @ka010 ?
That would be really useful I think. Then you could still use multiple midi channels on the same instance. :)

I had hoped to have several keyboards per instance, too. I was wanting to set each to a different scale so that I could solo seamlessly across key changes.

You can have multiple instances all pointed at the same destination though ... depending on the host. Or just use the IAA/Standalone.

But yeh, could be nice to have.

  • edited November 2018

Yeah having multiple per instance would also be really useful to save host track space. in apeMatrix you're limited to 30 and I'm finding now that hitting that limit is becoming more normal :D

Yeah, I am finding that, too.
I can get ScytheSynth to respond to the standalone. You can use KB-1 virtual out, or send to AUM destination.
BUT, you have to take it out of MPE mode. Try channel 1 instead of MPE.

I can see no way to take it out of MPE mode in the AU interface.
